AVP-R was not a good movie but it was just fun to watch. I loved it. Way better than that 1st piece of junk avp. The only movies that were better were Alien and Predator the originals.
Just my 2 cents

I thought the movie was miles ahead of the first AVP, and Alien 3 and 4, and Pred 2. The only thing that was lacking was:
It should have been set in the future, in the Aliens timeline
There should have been Colonial Marines.
An AVP movie set on a colony world (Or FUTURE Earth) with Colonial Marines fighting an Alien infestation with a Predator or two running around would be perfect. But, they seem to be dead-set against doing that movie. Much cheaper to set it on present-day Earth, even though it screws up the whole timeline and POINT of the Alien series.
The whole plot of the original Alien movies was to keep them off Earth. Riply died to keep them off Earth. But, surprise! They were here allready!

Either way according to Paul Anderson when doing the first one he said it wasn't cannon in the first place and so it never really takes place in the actual Alien or Predator stories. Basically he made it for fun. I would link the interview he said that in but that was when the first one came out. Don't remember where it was.
I thought the first one was incredibly horrible. I have yet to see this one. Ill see it just for laughs and for the sake of seeing it. As far as these movies being better than Alien3, I really don't think so...as bad as a situation that Alien3 was in, it turned out to be nice visually (minus the weird CGI effects of that time) and the acting wasn't anything to laugh about or to not take seriously. I think people are just mostly angry they killed off the great characters Hicks and Newt more than anything. See the assembly cut. It's far superior to AVP. As far as Resurrection goes...I thought it was better than AVP but that's because I did not like the idea of bringing the Aliens to Earth in the first place.

It was. At least in the theater I saw it at. And I saw someone else in this thread say they saw it too.

Damn right!
Alien 3 was a complete non-sequitor from Aliens: "hmm can't think of a
new story so lets just make up some BS implausable reason why we can kill off Newt and Hicks, and get Ripley into the setting of our choice"
Lame.
From my view, everything alienwise from Alien3 on is non-canon, and just an effort to milk a good idea for everything it's worth without care for art or quality.

Just out of pure curiosity, what did you like about it? Because personally, I can't find one redeeming quality about it. I don't think it should ever have been green-lighted in the first place. Certainly not worth the $40 mil that Fox gave them to make it...

I actually liked the 3rd Aliens [epic ending] it couldn't end any other way... The fourth one sucked.
And I liked the 2nd Predator too... I like the idea of a regular everyday guy fighting the Predator. i mean- The first one was amazing... But the second one definitely showed how a regular person handles an over-the-top situation. Plus it dug deeper into details and history about the Predator.

The 2nd Predator film was pretty good. It had an intensity about it that never let up, and the Predator itself was very cool. Lots of good action, and cool alien weapons.
AVP-R was disappointing because there are so many good storylines from the comics and also from fans that would have made an awesome movie. After seeing the Q&A video on the AVP-R site and realizing what a bunch of boneheads these guys were, I'm starting to wonder if there shouldn't be a 'franchise police' out to protect good things like the Predator and Alien ideas. This brings 'Cloverfield' to mind. Even if it's the best thing since sliced bread....I think JJ Abrams should be killed for butchering Star Trek with his warped ideas. Or maybe I'll help Shatner kill him.

My quick review of AVPR First off, I have to say...Predator is the coolest sci-fi creature ever!
Okay, so AVPR was an interesting movie, but I hate how they turned it into a Saw type horror bloodfest. The only thing that made it worth watching was the Predator action...but then again
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Predator died anyway, so it was kinda pointless
IDK. The movie lacked a memorable action scene, was completely deluded with merciless blood, guts and death, and Predator was an enemy again, which I didn't like after they befriended humans in the first one. Now that I look back on that movie, I think the best part of AVPR was walking by the Cloverfield standee on my way into the theater. The dumb AMC theater didn't have a Cloverfield trailer before it, so I was kinda disappointed about that.

Fort Myers! I used to live in Cape Coral. I think this is the first time I've heard of anyone else from that area.
