Request from Amanda
3C wants to know...

At the top of Amanda's 3rd page is the title "Florence". When I asked her about it, Amanda asked me to discover who Florence is. She stated that it was an obscure reference. Upon giving her the correct answer, she sent me this:

I should ask someone else too ... do you think you could ask a few people
to discover who Florence is?

So guys, Amanda would like you to discover who Florence is and to email her your answer. Sorry, but at this time I am not allowed to give hints. Good Luck!!

Ash

Are we allowed to post our guesses?
And subsequently, could you tell us if we're headed in the right direction?

So, I wikied the name Florence. I can tell you the Latin meaning (to flower) but the most I could think of (since a lot of our clues have been Wonderland-based) was for a show called Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.

But, I don't think that's it.

Then there's Miss. Nightingale (the nurse). But, I don't think that's it either.

Or maybe it's a reference to the character in The Magic Roundabout?

I could go on .. but I have no idea. Really. Hope someone else gets this. (It's drivin' me mad! Haha!)

.. or perhaps ... huh, the inventor of photography? Antoine Hercule Romuald Florence? (I think I've got it now).

She specifically said that it's an obscure reference, so I automatically ruled out Florence Nightingale. Smile

I didn't even think of characters in things, I was specifically looking for real people. Good thought.

I can't help but think she's referring to the inventor of photography though. That's my story and I'll stick to it until proven otherwise (so someone please prove me otherwise .. lol!)

Good guesses....
but..

While I am still not allowed to give hints, I can tell you that so far none of the guesses posted are correct. I will say this, one of you was very close to being on the right thought process....

Good Luck!!

Ash

This may be a bit obscure, but could Florence refer to a place rather than a person?

Florence (Italian: Firenze) is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany, Italy, and of the province of Florence.

Last ditch attempt --

I also noticed 'Ada' at the top of her second page. Might this be close at all?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_da_Firenze

(Granted, then the name 'Gertrude...?' shows up at the top of the fourth page followed by an encouraging 'NEVER!' on the next).

It's the closest thing I can think of. Otherwise, I'm fully stumped at this point.

I don't really think any of them are correct, but these are the guesses I had sent her:

"Florence E. Corey, who established The School of Industrial Art for Women.

Florence Cane, an art teacher at Walden School. She also wrote The Artist in Each of Us, and her methods (along with those of her sister Margaret Naumburg) were the basis of our modern art therapy. She was rather interesting to read about.

Florence Kersting, Florence Pierce, Florence Broadhurst, Florence Harrison, all artists."

It's kinda cool that she's still interacting after her week. They're usually silenced, but I guess if the puzzles aren't solved...

are we still working on this too. Is it possible that solving this riddle will help us with 3S' puzzle?

I solved Amanda's puzzle. Very Happy
I don't think it has anything at all to do with 3s's puzzle.
