I just tell people its a monster movie done with a handheld, that's good enough. Paramount has enough money to advertise the flick without me, I cannot assume that anyone would care about this backstory.

EDIT: Think the Blair Witch Project without the suckiness. Wink

I usually tell them:

ME:Cloverfield is a new monster moving coming out in january, but they film it with a camcorder. So something like a godzilla movie meets blair witch.
THEM: So is it a Godzilla movie?
ME: Nope, the guy making the movie said its not godzilla. Something totally new. We just know its HUGE, and it applies ownage to NYC.
THEM: Cool.
ME: Yeah, and there has been all kinds of viral marketing for the movie online. Kinda like an RPG almost. There is websites with clues about the movie, each of the characters has their own myspace which is in character. All kinds of crazy stuff like that.

And that is how i explain cloverfield. If they are curious, I give them more or tell them to google it/visit this forum. Wink

I basically do the same as everyone else, but I get way too excited and start telling them about the Slusho! & Tagruato sites, and what's been found, etc. That's when their eyes start glazing over, like when I tell people what I do at work (when they ask).

I've learned to just forward the links and let them at it themselves.

Me: Okay, there's the monster movie coming out in January, and it's produced by the LOST guy so like everything is a clue and I'm part of this group of people that have been analyzing videos as if they were the Zapruder film and we found out that it has to do with a frozen Japanese drink that this oil company has to like dig deep in the ocens for, or, for the special ingredient that makes it so cold, and there's a drilling station near NY and we think that's what makes the monster attack and NO IT IS NOT GODZILLA.

Whomever I was talking to: It's Godzilla, right? Godzilla 2?

I start by telling them it's a new monster attacks NYC movie...and then get so excited about all of the stuff we here at uF have uncovered, experienced, etc. I blurt everything out at once it seems.

People's expressions are priceless....they hear me saying monster...and then Slusho and other viral related stuff, and are like huh?
