[META] Where are the Cloudmakers?

Hello - I'm an old Cloudmaker and I just got here last night and this may be a dumb question...

Are there any senior Cloudmakers hanging around? Has anyone made an attempt to send out a general batsignal to all of the past Cloudmakers? I'm sure they would jump all over this... this is what we have been waiting for.

I know that cloudmakers.org is suspiciously down...what a...bizzarre...coincidence. But I'm signed up to the announce email list on th cloudmakers group and I haven't recieved any news about this. I just found it by luck... It makes me wonder how many past cloudmakers are still completely oblivious. They are a strong and resourceful and ORGANIZED group... and they know the enemy Wink We sure could use them...plus they'd be pissed if they missed the beast 2.

Yeah, CM has been alerted, it went out on email last week maybe Tuesday, or Wednesday. As far as the website, the suspicious activity of the site being down is that Dan Hon forgot to change his credit card number with the people who own the server, thus he forgot to pay for the month or whatever.

All signs point to "yes" as far as this being the next Beast. Damn my lack of free time, I'm an oldsk00l Cloudmaker coming out of the woodwork to play.

Ok... though doesn't it seem an odd coincidence that Dan would happen to forget about his credit card right as this thing shows up? I think it could be possible that maybe he was convinced to take it down... a way for the PMs to essentially "scatter" us and make us have to reorganize. Though admittedly it may be a stretch to assume he is in league with the PMs.

Just piping up since I go no such email... I thought I was on the list anyway...

I found it fishy as well that cloudmakers.org would be down. At any rate I re-signed up onto the Cloudmakers Yahoo group, as I am an oldschool Cloudmakers lurker.

From what I've been able to find, this is about the largest meeting place of people working on this puzzle. This and #beekeepers.

Although I don't count as an old Cloudmaker, I read the guide obsessively in an "AHH SO COOL" kind of way, although I entered the community almost right after the conclusion of the Beast. Umm... but I know enough to think that the Mayday texts remind me of Laia's Meditations... at least maybe in writing style a bit.

Does that help? Rolling Eyes Wink

Another Former Cloudmaker Reporting for Duty

Greetings,

Perusing /. I found out about this ARG for Halo2. Since I was just reminiscing about AI Movie and the Beast it was perfect timing to start a new adventure.

I look forward to unraveling the new mystery before us.

This is not a game. Let the game begin.

You'll find the occasional Hon hanging out (but usually not chatting) in one of the chat channels, and lots of other recognizable names passing through from CM.

The Cloudmakers Yahoo group just sent a message annoucing this game(that's how I found it), but is there a way to have a central place to organize announced? Like the poster above said, this forum does seem to be the largest meeting place.

I've been waiting for something new to start. I wasn't the most useful Cloudmaker, but I loved every minute of it

Unless the PMs hold a news conference, it's hard to be central about an ARG that's supposed to be "discovered" by players. In this case many who received the honey hint posted immediately here, and both CM and the jawbreakers crowd sent group notices. I'm sure other groups similarly notified their members (Halo, bungie, gaming sites etc etc), but I don't know how else you'd organize a "central" announcement. Anything central to the ARG community that might have set up in advance would have totally missed most of the Halo crowd. And vice versa.

On the other hand, getting slashdotted might be interpreted as such. And that's been done too. Smile

Oh, and a little Off-Topic:

Here's a little something for all you cloudmakers for when you're bored.

Note: this was part of the ARGN Puzzle trail last month. Enjoy it for its nostalgia. Smile

Danelope! and the old gang!

Yep, I'm back too. Couldn't stay away from a game with fireflies... ;)

Of course, now I've had to explain to my current SO "well, you see, three years ago, this game that a bunch of guys from Microsoft did ate my BRAIN and LIFE and I know we've only been dating for two and a half months, but... uh... I'll be over in the corner keeping it down to a dull roar, OK?" :)

I know how you feel. It's harder trying to explain "See, there's this thing... that happened... I didn't participate, but I read obsessively about it. So if it's happening again, I -gotta- do it..." and they still don't get what "it" is. Razz
