The numbering on the 'rings' is bothering me.
The first says 100 and the rest are in increments of 500.

This is not a linear scale. Dunce

Maybe it's a result of the TIDO event. Could be a spill you are looking at (the straight line could be the spill against a solid object). May not even be oil, could be SBN you are looking at. And perhaps such a spill is what rouses the creature.

I doubt the creature is caught on any radar/sonar etc, from a side view, that doesn't make much sense. The signature would be as from above, and would look quite different.

It's not oil. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o247/Buttonbasher/pseunmoisuf.jpg

It's probably my mother in-law... She is about as harmful as an oil spill, and just as hard to get rid of.

Well if those are longitude and latitude coordinates and it's off the coast of mexico, wouldn't that be the fastest way from Japan to NY by ship? Around the southern coast of South America. Maybe GP trailed them from Mexico or Japan and that's how they ended up in NY. A tanker from Japan to NY might hold the first shipment of Slusho! (I'm basing this theory on this sonar being taken from the tanker in NY harbor)

Or the tanker was towing GP back, since tankers are pretty heavy duty boats.

It occured to me looking at the Tagurato map, that NYC is about due west of Chuai. It's probably one of the closest major ports.

I don't think MGP came with the tanker.

The tagline is, "Some thing has found us"...not, "Some thing has been brought to us." Razz

Well whoever made this img flattened the layers...of corse, so i couldnt do much in that regard but i did manage to play with the color and levels to highlight the important areas of the img or the most colored (i th ink that means deepest or something) whatever it means...here you go if it helps good.

Not to blow my own trumpet, [parp] but I think the image I made shows us everything there is to see unless we get emailed more sonar pictures.

If you want to try it yourself, paste the two sonar pictures into the same Photoshop document, then change the top layer's blending mode from 'Normal' to 'Difference'*, then merge the two layers and increase the brightness using Adjustments>Curves, or brightness/contrast, whatever.

*Difference blending calculates the difference for each pixel between the two images, so the result is abs(a-b) for the red green and blue channels of each pixel. Black pixels mean they are identical in each image.

[QUESTION] What do the controls in the lower right mean?

can anyone translate the tabs at the top of the sonar window. It might lead to what exactly is being scanned by the sonar..

Translated a few pages back.

[QUESTION] What do the controls in the lower right mean?

I just read all 11 pages of this thread. In the lower right of images ( for example: http://bp3.blogger.com/_YPCf8JFgUdI/R3XdSKPwlPI/AAAAAAAACCI/Y-_bYEf13ac/s1600-h/sonar_01.jpg ) there are two symbols.

The farthest one down in the corner looks like a microphone / thermometer.
The one on the left looks Kanji-esque, Plus-sign on top of square-with-a-dot on top of something-I can't describe.

Thanks and sorry if I missed it.

Slusho Addict, I think you may have stumbled onto something here, at least IMO this seems like the most clear image we have so far. What if this isnt a whole image of GrumpyPants, but rather, an image of a stage of GP's development (cocoon, egg, hibernation) smack dab in the middle of our sonar. If you look at that above picture, I think you can see an oval form take shape in the middle of the image. So what we're seeing is the normal topography of the ocean bottom, and then a big oval-like object in the middle of our sonar. Im not sure how to draw an outline around it and post, but if someone could do that to clear it up that would be cool.

Whaddya guys think?

A bit inkblottish, but here's what you get if you overlay a mirrored version, the middle shape looked like it could be symetrical, so I lined up the markings to match.

Very interesting image, but I think everyone's going to start speculating about a cyclops now. Bang Head

Slusho, is there anyway you can post an image of the oval I mentioned in my last post?

This bit?

I don't know, the way the whole thing seems to fade in evenly suggestsit's all part of the same object to me. There would be bits too dark, or far away, to show up that connect it all together, just like the areas which appear in the second image.
