A bit inkblottish, but here's what you get if you overlay a mirrored version, the middle shape looked like it could be symetrical, so I lined up the markings to match.

Don't forget, everything is symmetric, once you mirror it.

Ha, it looks like a gorrilla to me. A rather formal one.

Im not really sure if we've discussed this yet, but anyone else have a problem with the 100, 500, 1000, then 1500 markings on the sonar? Wouldnt this mean that the area within 0-100 is waaaay more focused on in the image, and then the area within 100-500 slightly more focused upon? Would there be any way for us to correct this with photoshop or something?

Yeah I noticed that, it's odd.
The 100 to 500, and 500 to 1000 ranges are similar, so it's only the middle that would be different, I'm not sure if there's anything in it though.

Imagine if the PM's are actually taking cues from my thread a couple of weeks back...that would be cool

Smile good call!
I think the PTB have indeed been taking note of our musings here, even if not quite taking a cue, as was referenced by Drew in a maxim interview when he mentioned the infamous "its a lion quote"!

That is uncanny...
It is funny how they deliver what we want...or expect.

If it was rotated 180 degrees, it would look like similar to the aliens from the movie "Aliens" (or AVP if you prefer).

Inkblot like images tend to make you see all kinds of shit though. I wonder if there is a file hidden in the image:

I got mine, sonar_2.jpg, and I grabbed the full size of sonar_1.jpg thanks to you generous folks. I did some work myself, creating a mask selection and overlaying just the sonar display using difference for sonar_2, then adjusted the levels just a bit to get good luminosity back. Here's my results:

What I think it's important to note is that adjusting color alters this image in a very fundamental way that basically destroys it's original content. Because sonar images like this are artificially colored, shifting colors destroys important differentiations in the color gradients created when the image is generated.

What we need is someone that has a way to interpolate the missing parts where the 'scan lines' black out the details a good bit. I tried using a crude blurring technique, but it's not really that effective.

What I don't quite get for sure is if sonar here is in a downward or side scanned mode. There's that funky little 'ship' icon on the left of the images. It's very important if we are seeing a downward image. It would appear to be that to me - but then the difference in the two would mean the object is basically rising from the seabed or from beyond the sonar's effective reach.

That looks like some sort of horrible freaky face.
