Viral marketing hits a new high. They'll crack it open and Marlena will stumble out with ketchup smeared all over her head.

It's probably not related. If it is, I admire the dedication the staff in charge of the viral marketing of this movie.

Undoubtedly OOG. Looks like a satellite.
It would be hilarious, though, if it was IG. Then where would all the people be saying this is a badly organised ARG, huh?

I might've considered it IG if it has washed ashore on the East Coast of the U.S.

Dunno about claws, but there's a definite ding in it.
I bet it's a piece of the Chuato station that fell off during the "event". There are secret recordings inside from Teddy and Randy and baby MGPs...

I think it's Homers' pig poop silo.

I suspect you're seeing the bottom of the container. Notice 4 mounting flanges around the ring. Whatever was intended to be in it was likely gravity fed through the cone. Would have to see more. Mighty random thing to have washing up though, perhaps a silo was being shipped, fell off a boat?
Looks much like:

But then the labeling would be upside down. However...

If it was being shipped, it could be salvage. That would explain labeling being on the 'bottom', and why a big barge or freighter hauling a huge pile of scrap might dismiss something that big going overboard.
Yes, looks very similar. If it's a pressure vessel though, it could have that odd cone at the top. Curious to see what they figure out.
Overall though, OOG is a safe guess right now.

A search for '5580' in Google brings up this:

Looks very Cloverfield related.
