Wait a minute. If you guys here got honey with letters as clues, why would they need to put the URL in the Halo trailors. Isn't that pretty cruel to Halo fans who want info on the game?

My thought on this matter is that while this is an ARG, it ever so slightly touches on the Halo universe. The honey and the trailer both came out at the same time, but it was quite a bit easier to find the rabbithole with the honey than trying to see a split second change on the trailer. I like to think that the PM's wanted the ARG people in on this to a: have some fun (esp if this is Beast II) and b: help the halo ppl who wouldnt necessarily know how to play this type of game (tho I have no proof of this being the case).

I don't think this is cruel to Halo fans at all. You're getting to see and be a part of a story that crosses paths with the story you already know. I don't know how many people read Stephen King, but if you do, you can think of it like this. If you think of Halo & Halo 2 being The Dark Tower series, you could think of this ARG as being like "Insomia", "Eyes of the Dragon", "The Stand" or "Black House." The worlds touch, and sometimes even cross, but yet each story is distinct in its own way.

How is this not cruel? The point of video games is to buy and enjoy and maybe looks stuff up. This little detective thing is basically forcing anyone who'se a hardcore Halo fan into wasting vast amounts of time on a stupid search on a random website. This is taking away from the pure pleasure of popping in a disc, and twiddling your thumbs to enjoy a good story. Incorporating a live detective hunt that might win you NOTHING is, excuse the bluntness, retarded. Not everyone has technical skills to analyze website programming or distort sound files. Don't get me wrong, all these back stories and details such as Cortana also being Charlemegns sword are awesome, but all that information is hidden inside ilovebees.com. Frankly, this whole hting is taking away from the spirit of Halo.

P.S.- This online detective thing is actually pretty fun. Just not such an unobvious way to start. I mean if it was actually clear what you were getting into then kick ass. But the trailer thing is misleading to hopefull Halo fanatics.

Who forced you to spend your time doing this?

We do it because it's enjoyable. We have fun doing it.

I wish I had a blogger account so I could make a post on Dana's blog telling all the people who are calling us "retarded" and "stupid" for "going along with it" that IT'S A GAME! We go along with it because it's FUN!

I belive that what they are doing is called "greifing". Ruining the fun for others, because they aren't having fun. Or you could just call their actions "full of dickitry".

Seriously for you people who have never played Alternate Reality Games before, allow the game to develop naturally. The whole point of the game is to play the game and allow yourself to get into it. If you are here just for Halo 2 info, this probably isn't the site or game for you. As someone who has played several of these games, all the way back to the Beast, you won't learn anything about the promoted item such as the AI movie, or in this case, Halo 2. For the Beast, the story took place long after the events of the movie were finished. Likewise, I don't imagine that the events here will have anything to do directly with Halo 2. The puppet masters in every game have always needed to have flexibility with the script to accomodate what we discover and how we respond, thus it is very likely that the script is not even written yet. SO...with a franchise with like Halo, this game will likely not tie into the events of Halo 2 itself because of complex copyright issues. Bungie wouldn't relinquish control over the plot to these writers so as to prevent interference in any future sequel games or books.

Oh my god. You're taking a universe based on survival, aliens, and an all around badass (master chief) and using it to advetise this mystery game. What's worse, you're using the game as clues for your ARG. Myself, as well as my friends, saw the trailor and the site and believed that it was a countdown to something cool like a playable demo. But no, it was a ploy to just get us into a detective hunt. Yes, this is fun, but the concept HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HALO. And besides, you're all just being messed with by these "puppet masters." Dance puppets, dance!

Assuming that a link to Halo(2) does exist.

Ahem... What exactly do you want us to do about it? Maybe it would prove more useful for you to take your complaints to bungie, xbox, AntFarm, or... I don't know... God?

Guy, it ain't us. It's Bungie. They've been doing this for YEARS. Way back during the Marathon games they'd post snippets and stories on Usenet, building the mythology of the game. Teasing us on their next games. That continues to the present. They did it before Halo 1 with The Cortana Letters.

The universe is NOT just based on survival, aliens, and an all around badass. It's about rampant AIs, mysterious precursor races, ancient secrets, and intergalactic wars. Read up on all the work Bungie put into the universe prior to Halo at the Marathon Story page. Then see how it all links into Halo.

First of all, I never claimed it had one thing to do with halo. I'm one of the people who think it has nothing to do with Halo.

Second, I'm not taking a universe based on survival, aliens, and an all around badass to "advetise" [sic] for anything.

I'm not using Halo as clues. Others are, but I only use the clues given on the in-game websites.

How, exactly, would a playable demo work? Streaming? I don't own an X-Box, but isn't that impossible as of right now?

Your problem, I think, is that you read my reply from some sort of alternate reality. Where up is down and left is right.

Go back and read my comment again, you'll see how your reply didn't have anything from it.

Last week I investigated box #510 at the UPS store. It was empty.

I live a few blocks away so I took a walk down there and 2370 Market is a group of three stores, one of which is a UPS store with mailbox service as pointed out above. I took a few pictures with my cell phone if any one is curious. Pictures of 2370 Market St.

Would it be terribly out of line to send this guy pictures of himself? i understand if that would be sort of "taking control", but . . .imgine how creeped out he would be!

UKE: Good point, Im a total doofus. I totally didnt realize #510 was a box number, lol. I thought it was one of the businesses Laughing Still though, it seems an odd part of town to use.

I called Swifter and Associates again, and got through. They've never heard of a Margaret Efendi, but they say they're the real estate company who owns the building.

I'll trout myself.
