EMAIL AGP: Digitalis (Ashgrove Park E-mail)

I sent the following to webmasterSPLATashgrovepark.com today. I will keep everyone informed of a reply.

To Whom it May Concern:

My name is Dr. Stephen Faust, and I am very interested in your amusement park and the surrounding area, especially the nearby town of Aglaura, New Jersey. This entire are has a VERY rich history, clad with superstition and mystical rumors.

I am interested in two things about your park. First of all, a source of mine had some abnormal experiences, to say the least, after visiting your park and riding the 'Magical Carousel'. I understand that this beautiful work of art was handcrafted by the Artistic Carousel Company of Brooklyn, New York. I am interested in more of the history behind this beautiful carousel, specifically, have there been any 'paranormal' rumors or happenings associated with it? Also, is there any possibility that this carousel could be tied, in any way, to the New Jersey Ong's Hat cult?

Secondly, my research has led me to the word "DIGITALIS," as well as a hint that it may be tied to your amusement park. Is there anything in the park's grand history that has anything to do with this word? Digitalis is also a type of flower; does this flower grow in your park at all?

Thank you very much for your time, I anxiously look forward to your reply. Please reply by e-mail, or call me at my home phone number, (XXX)-XXX-XXXX between the hours of 8PM - 11PM EST.

I got the following reply a few minutes ago. I've bolded the interesting parts

Dear Dr. Faust,

Thanks for your interest in Ash Grove Park. I must say that I don't know how qualified I am to answer your questions, but I'm happy to help where I can.

First off, I want to say that from my perspective, AGP is just your average amusement park, with its share of fun rumors and stories. I've never witnessed anything I would consider 'paranormal' but then again, I'm not the expert on such matters, although I do watch the X-Files on occasion, like the next guy.

The history of our classic Magic Carousel is indeed a rich one. It was built in 1917 by Stein and Goldstein for the Artistic Carousel Company of Brooklyn, New York. The horses are handcrafted wood, and it has been lovingly restored to its original condition. As far as it being truly 'magical' all I can say is that I've heard many stories about wonderful things that have happened to people after they've ridden it. Now, I may not be very objective on this, as my wife and I fell in love while riding in one of the chariot seats. The carousel music is a pleasant constant reminder of her every day I'm here at work. Smile

As far as your question about Digitalis, the only thing I can think of is that it may be related to one of our seasonal workers here. That's one of the names our midway fortune teller goes by. Are you possibly referring to him? That's about the only thing that comes to mind, although I know nothing about the plants around here.

Hope this helps you in your research.

Hmmm.... The fortune teller? Any ideas anyone?

I just sent this reply...

Dear Mr. Bowers,

Thank you for your prompt response. Your mention of Digitalis, the fortune teller, intrigues me. Do you have any more information about him, or a phone number/address/e-mail address that I could use to contact him? Also, do you know the origin of his name; why is he called Digitalis?

Thank you for your time.

Just got this reply. VERY interesting!

Dr. Faust,

Because the park is only open on weekends, it may be a short while until any message can be passed on to Digitalis. I would need his consent before being able to release any contact info, as I'm sure you understand. Plus, I would need some concrete credentials from you before I would be able to do so. Do you have an email address at the University?

As far as the origin of his name, I frankly have no clue. Around here, we just call him the Fortune Teller or the Six-Fingered Man. I always thought his name had something to do with that, fingers being digits and all, but who knows?

I need to tell you that I can't guarantee that Digitalis will reply at all, as he is a rather eccentric and out-of-date old man. I'll see what I can do.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bowers,

I would like very much to talk to Digitalis. I am new at the University, so the haven't gotten around to setting up an e-mail account for me. However, I can send some credentials. Will a resume with a University letterhead work? Would you like me to scan it and email it to you, or is there a fax number you'd like me to send it to? Please let me know, ASAP. Thanks again for all your time.

We're gonna fake some credentials, and maybe we'll be able to get ahold of this Digitalis guy...

OK all, I typed up this rough draft of a Curriculum Vitae to send off to the guy at AGP. Hopefully, we'll get Digitalis' contact info. Please give my comments and suggestions, then I will send it off.

BIG kudos and thanks to Jamesi for the way cool letterhead, signature, and template, konamouse for her help and research, and everyone else in #uf for helping out!

OK, I just sent this over to Brent, the guy at AGP:

Mr. Bowers,

I was hoping my university e-mail account would be set up by now, but Eve over in the Tech. Department informed me that the whole e-mail server was down due to a recent electrical storm, so I may have to continue using this temporary address until she can get my official one up and running. Anyway, I have attached my Curriculum Vitae in a .PDF Adobe Acrobat format. I hope this will be enough credentials for you. Please let me know how I can contact "Digitalis," by e-mail or otherwise. Thanks for all your time on this project!

I also attached the Curriculum Vitae in PDF form, it's the same one attached to this post. I will let everyone know how things turn out.

Got this reply from Brent at AGP today.

Dr. Faust,

As I said, I can not release any personal information about Digitalis unless I get his permission. Surely you can understand that.

Of course, you could always come to the park some weekend and seek him out yourself, if you so choose.

I'll let you know if I get a reply from him.

I sent this reply off to Brent, the AGP guy

Mr. Bowers,

I completely understand your concern and respect for Digitalis' privacy. If you could please ask his permission to release his contact information, or have him contact me, at your and his earliest convenience, it would be most appreciated. If it makes any difference, let Digitalis know that I am a friend of Dale Sprague. I hope my credentials were sufficient for your purposes.

In regards to visiting the park, I regret to say that I will not be able to make it. I will be away on business in Colorado for the next month (but will still have access to my e-mail), and possibly longer. However, I have spoken to a few of my colleagues about this issue, and they have expressed interest in visiting your park and speaking with Digitalis. Does this work? How about this weekend?

Thanks again for your help.

Either there's gonna be some real life interaction going down mighty soon, or I'm going to call his bluff. Either way, I'm excited. Are any of you guys in New England free this weekend, and willing to go to NJ, just in case he invites us somewhere?

-Danny D.

Hmmm

I wouldn't hold your breath, Danny. I think chances of a meeting with Digitalis are Slim and None, and Slim left town on business, too.

However, it will certainly be interesting if the PM has found a six-fingered man somewhere...

I knew a six-fingered girl once but she had that extra digit (which was useless and deformed) surgically removed.

Um... I'v said too much already. ::runs::

What's interesting is that having six digits is dominant over five digits. There just aren't that many six digit genes, I guess.

digitalis

You could always ask Digitalis to call you, if he's willing. I'm thinking that he's not the sort of guy to use email, but might be persuaded to talk on the phone - and Brent could start the call and just hand it over to Digit.

That would be doable.

A little more far fetched would be asking Brent to send you a picture of Digit for some research reason.

Email to Angus from the Park

"Angus" (from CD) received this email

Quote:
Dear Angus,

Thanks for your interest in Ash Grove Park! Things should really be
hopping around here in August, so I'd suggest visiting us midweek to avoid the heavy crowds.

Our fortune teller, Digitalis, is a very popular attraction. He's very
mysterious, and has an uncanny way of knowing everything about people.
He does indeed do sessions with children, although some young ones have been known to be a little frightened. As for the specific format of the
sessions, I'm really not the one to ask, as I've never visited Digitalis as a customer.

As for the Magic Carousel, the one pictured on the site is actually the
children's carousel of the same name. We have two Magic Carousels: the
kiddie version (pictured) and our classic Magic Carousel (almost 100
years old) on the main midway. We don't have pictures on the site right
now, but I'll see if I can find some to post somewhere.

It has been rumored to be truly magical, as I've heard stories of many
wonderful things happening to people who have ridden it.

Hope you can visit us this summer.

Sincerely,

Brent Bowers
