i discovered silverladder by chance in 2002 and was immediately sucked into the bad scary place which i traversed for years before the current silverladder experience began... i was contacted sometime in i believe late august or september via myspace with a simple note regarding 11/11 and a message of CHANGE IS COMING. after discovering the uF community i've been doing my best to take part in any way i can.

I first heart about Cloverfield, I don't even remember how anymore. I was following the viral marketing and eventually found out about uF. From that point on I was looking through the forums and noticed one of the ARGs called Silverladder. The name intrigued me so I took a look and was pleasantly surprised by the Alice in Wonderland theme. I've been hanging out in IRC ever since.

i first discovered ARGs with "majestic", and after that ended i forgot about ARGs for several years. a couple of years ago i started casually lurking uF, but never found something that was just starting up. i found silverladder by michele's post(which i lurked for a few days at the beginning), and started interacting after a week or so.

I'm new here. But I became interested thanks to Numb3rs and an article in Game Informer magazine. Then I found you guys thanks to ARGN. And I became hooked after reading your posts and interactions. Who could not want to be a part of your teamwork and this fun?

Exactly! That's easily my favorite part of this whole thing. We've also got an IRC channel (or three, haha) and we also have a Ventrilo server, if you can join it. Even without a microphone, you can still listen in, as Ventrilo has a built-in chat function. Even if you're just still here on the uF forums, you can tell that we're one big happy fambly (... most of the time, but that makes the fambly aspect more realistic! Very Happy) and I love that.

I'm so glad we're still getting new Passengers.

My story is similar to Scare's. I also was introduced to ARG's with Majestic. I lurked around ARGN & uF for years, but never really got involved with anything. I was introduced to Silverladder when the Two of Clubs sent me a friend request on Myspace. I had no idea what was going on, but I came to uF for advice, since it was the only place I could think of that might understand. Look at us now!?!?!

Completely honest? NUMB3RS got me looking.
The NUMB3RS ARG was OK. I have to see that episode.

And I played Iris, was unimpressed and found a post about SL here, said, "this HAS to be better than Iris" and started playing.

I feel slightly silly, but I just remember being lazy and reading up on the Halo back-story one night so I could know half of what was happening as the third (and final) game came out. Saw a little thing about 'bees' and it snow-balled from there.

Granted, I'd known about The Beast long before all of this while still in high school (saw those flashing red letters at the end of A.I.'s trailer and just knew somethin' was up). Never pursued it though. Wish I had.

What finally pushed me out the door though is Thomas Pynchon's novel The Crying of Lot 49. It's literally all about an ARG. (random trivia: Radiohead uses the name for their merchandise -- W.A.S.T.E.).

Anyway, I read it for a class and we discussed it. Came to the conclusion that 'the search' our main character goes on is not necessarily about finding a prize at the end, but rather a primal search for knowledge; being a part of something bigger than yourself along with others that may or may not be as intimately involved as they do or do not appear (are they in on it too? and etc.) It's an escape from an everyday-life that she finds to be limiting. Best part was the ending -- we never truly find out if it was all real or not. Maybe she was on drugs, maybe it was a hallucination, maybe it was a personification of the 60s. I just thought it was awesome.

/end long-winded post (I swear I'll break this habit at some point; haha!)

ILB was the first ARG I'd heard about, too. I was working at GameStop when all that was going down so I heard whispers about it, but nothing more. It scared the pants off me, to be honest. The thought of standing next to a pay phone waiting for it to ring to talk to a character? Creepy, if you ask me (or so I thought then. Smile

Finally, one night I was sitting in a Denny's quite late, and talking to a few friends who had participated in ILB, and after thoroughly scaring the pants off me with mention of that and a few other ARGs, I swore I'd never participate in one, until finally my curiosity got the better of me and I loaded up ILB's website. It's over now, but it was still really interesting to see all the picture changes and listen to all the sound clips of people who'd done this... I believe I did a search for "alternate reality game" on Google, read some of The Beast's stuff, and I believe I stumbled onto uF that way. I tried to do some of the Iris stuff, and things lead to others, and here I am. Smile
