Well at least I got a reaction - the first one I got so far.

He He...I did the same exact thing Palm.

first assignment

Faery, did you read the first assignment on the dailystalker website? Wondering if we are to do something about the message on the toilet paper - are we to slip the toilet paper message to Will Findhem? How would we do that?

I just started the game and don't know if I am on the right track.

just got a message from Ian:
Stalk the Planet!!
Just kidding. I think something weird is going on here. Everyone asking about this guy who is advertising. We are having a meeting about this.
Ian

Edited again:
Thinking the e-mail was supposed to be a clue, I put in Alex Wynn (the name on the advertising page) in the advertising form link instead of my own user name and got a different response: "Unable to validate"

Sorry! It just got uber-busy at work after the new year so I haven't really been able to do anything ARGish today. Palm, I'd recommend going to the What is this Game forum. People over there are doing awesome stuff and they might be able to sound off ideas with you. I'm just too busy right now to even think about it.

Yes, I noticed the game and the forum have been going really fast. I may have to visit it. Thanks Faery.

So.. I'm none too good with page sources... can someone tell me what this means? It was the source text for the classifieds icon page where you submit a username.

tr**td*User Name:*/td**td**input type="text" name="name" value="myusername"* */td*
*td**input type="hidden" name="required" value="name,email,message"*
*input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit"*

The "hidden name, email, message" is making me curious. I didn't recieve an email from it, and trying combinations of my username and email and such doesn't work.

Anyone care to explain to a poor clueless newbie?

*Edit* Forgot to replace the <and>'s with *'s the first time around. Fixed.

As best I can tell, they're using the same server for both the daily stalker site and for the WITG site. I think that code pretty much tells the page to pull all of your information you registered with from the WITG site and use that to track your progress. Any code veterans care to confirm or correct me?

Update on daily Stalker

Looks like there was an "emergency employee meeting" over there:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Emergency Meeting
What a strange day. First we get e-mails galore about someone called The Host and former employee Allen Nosey, and then at around 1:00 PM, we received a very disturbing letter. These events caused us to have an emergency staff meeting and it has just wrapped up. Here are the highlights from the meeting.

Allen Nosey was a reporter who worked for us over a year ago. Those who subscribed to our snail mail Publication may remember him. He was fired when he was caught snooping into Alex's business. Last we heard, he was living in a one bedroom apartment in downtown San Diego and was badly addicted to drugs. We no longer have contact with him.

The e-mails concerning The Host and the sponsored ad in our Classifieds section is something we are currently addressing and may be directly linked to the letter we received today. The ad was placed anonymously and paid for by a U.S. Money order that was sent in to us along with a picture that was to be placed on our site under sponsors. That is all we know about the ad at this time, but no worries, Ian is on top of it.

As for the letter, that is more complicated. We were so disturbed by this letter (and you think we have spelling errors, this one was loaded with them, but the letter specifically stated that we leave it as is), that we have contacted our attorneys and local law enforcement. We are currently working with them and will release the letter as soon as we get the go ahead.

We want to thank our loyal readers who were concerned about these issues and want to assure you that we are working as hard as we can. We will say this much. The letter if printed, may cause a mass panic amongst the public.

We'll keep you posted.
Alex

Not so much the same server, but yes this is the form where you provide your WitG login name and it credits your account with the find.

Out of curiosity, since WitG is now officially launched, whose leg do you have to hump to get this moved to a new section?

Seriously, lol. Would be nice to see this as a cF or full blown ARg...which i think it should be. Not much of a trailhead, more of a giant game, anyway posting to say the wiki is updated,

scoring

Darren, I see you are named in the top 5. Have you found a description of how the scoring is done? I looked around on the site and could not find anything other than the rankings - of course I could have missed it. I just don't know if I got anything or not.

unscramblings

I am still not doing so well in the game - I have spent all morning trying to catch up, reading everything, reading the daily stalker, etc. I still haven't progressed at all, other than being able to put my id in the advertising form.

I made a few observations that may or may not mean anything. The new letter on the Stalker titled "A plea to the public" has 16 mis-spellings in it.
d = t (itself)
s = a (what)
g = u (infatuated)
n = o (precious)
e = h (right)
g = i (special)
0 = v (given)
o = a (pedestol)
i = y (my)
n = o (or i) (bondings or bindings)
a = l (world)
s = h (this)
n = i (will)
e = y (Daily)
i = w (Hollywood)
i = l (completing)

So checking for anagram, "tauohivayolhiywl" does have the word "Yahoo" in it, and the icon for the article is called "searchlight". The other letters don't seem to fit, but maybe I am not seeing it. So I was thinking maybe I should be searching for something in Yahoo.

Also, I believe this makes a total of 40 letters (from previous communications).

We are looking for a MW, and I think the name is Matthew Willson (I had an e-mail that referred to the advertising guy: "Stalk the Planet!!
Just kidding. I think something weird is going on here. Everyone asking about this guy who is advertising. We are having a meeting about this. Ian") The advertising icon is named "willsonavt" I thought it might stand for Willson Art since they use misspellings alot. Yes, there is a Willson Art listed on Yahoo, but the website doesn't look like it is In game. There are many other Matthew Willson's listed as well.

I also started but did not finish, putting together the sentances in the articles in parenthesis that do not make sense to see if they are to be put together and unscrambled.
So far, I have:
work for practically nothing
Slum
wino
booted my Ass out because I stalked the Headmaster
bigger paycheck for me.
Slip the toilet paper with crayon writing out the window to Will Findem

I e-mailed Will and told him to look out his window and that I slipped him a note and to destroy it after he read it and got the response:
Thank you for that amazing info. I'll be sure to follow up on it - Will

So that's it - don't know where to go from here. TheHost has put up some clues on the other forum, some kind of deciphering math problems for the letters I presume. I e-mailed a Matthew Willson on google that is some kind of a math guru and probably out of game and thinks I am nuts.

How do we know the M stands for Matthew? As far as I know, it is still up in the air on what the name really is.

I am going to have to check all my notes; I have been to so many sites.

edited: Darren, OK, you are correct - the name (first and last for that matter) is still up in the air. I want to straighten out where I got the name Matthew from. I checked all my notes - many hours of them - and I got the "guess" of a last name of Willson from, as I mentioned above, an e-mail I received from Ian who directed me to a guy in advertising. Therefore I got the guess from the advertising icon named Willsonart.jpg. The first name of Matthew I am embarrased to say after much record checking to see where I got that idea is from another game called oceanic - where the answer to the clue was "Matthew". http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/find815/index?pn=chapter1 and it was in my head. This has never happend to me before; my head is spinning with all the sites after Christmas vacation trying to catch up. I am sorry I confused anyone although Matthew is still as good as a guess as any at this point. I have worked very hard on this (and will continue to)- don't want to confuse anyone with my theories. This is the first real hard game I have played.

As a heads up- regarding the movement into CF with Potential or full CF/ARG- it's based on traffic and whatnot, how far the game is progressing. When we have several sites to track and what not, we'll progress, at the moderators' discretion... with all respect. Smile
