[SPEC]So, are we expecting any soundtrack in the movie??
A question

So, first of all, sorry if this has been discussed already.. it probably has..
but well, there's a tv spot, that has some music...

but

the movie pretends to be all "recorded at handcam", so being realistic, it cant have soundtrack, what do we expect?
90 minutes without music?
i dont think it must contain music, because i think it will be full of suspense enough, and music will ruin the realistic surrounding..

but on the other hand..
maybe its too much 90 minutes without music...think of it, music can create drama and all those things.

i personally think that there wont be music at all, and it will rock, but what do you think?

edit to add tag ~rose

There will probably be music in the credits.
I doubt the movie will have music itself unless the people who found this tape decided to edit it together with music for dramatic effect. Which I doubt. clearly unrealistic.
There could be music if Rob and Co. decided to have an ipod with them or some sort of boombox or other portable music player... Who knows.

I personally hope there is no music.

What about the film score (if there is one) being released on CD? Many films have that instead of a traditional soundtrack consisting of songs from bands. I like the "Edward Scissorhands" one myself. Just put it on my iPod...

I personally will be a bit dissapointed if they don't have Linkin Park's What I've Done in the credits. In the early days, when I relied on Youtube video's for info, every decent video used that song. I think they still do. For me, it kind of became Cloverfield's song. I also think it would be a nice nod to what a huge thing this film was on the internet.

I hope, they won't use the music - neither in movie nor in intro/outro. Because the movie is more than a documentation, but something more. It's a masterpiece of ficional witness, so it has to keep its style the whole time. I would be disappointed with music. (I was already disappointed after music in trailers).

The only possible way to present music in the movie were using it at the special scenes like party or radio, something authentical. Because intended music as a scenic background makes distance between the observer and the movie. And the less distance is in Cloverfield, the best authentical experience we'll get.

jajajajaja "Macy Day Parade - Michael Penn"
Razz

and about the Linkin Park's What I've done song in the credits...
i dont think they'll use it...
the credits from transformers used it, isnt it?
it would be like : "oo the guys at paramount does have just only one song for their movies..."
i think it will be a score and a special song created for the movie at the beginning (open credits), and end of the movie.

I just watched "No Country for Old Men" last week at the theatre - great movie & it has NO SOUNDTRACK. So, as long as the movie is good & dialog is good then the movie will work. 90 minutes is a short movie too.

"The Blair Witch Project" had no music in the film, but they still released a "soundtrack" which was Josh's mix tape that was supposedly found in his car. So there is a way to release a soundtrack of sorts. It could be the "We'll Miss You Rob" playlist or something like that.

As far as music in the film, they may play up the sound design to give the impression of there being music - creating the tension and such - without actual music. That's really the only way to do it and stay realistic.

I was thinking of this song by Blue Oyster Cult...

I better not say it.

I saw the movie trailer before I am Legend and there was no music. I can only assume that there will not be music gleaning from what JJ Abrams has said about the movie. Blair Witch had no music and it still worked.

"No Country for Old Men" was 2 hours long, had no music, and was FULL of suspense and drama. Cloverfield can pull it off too.

I hope they don't use music.
