Hackers (and this includes you, Duncan), i'm telling you this for the last time. Any more posting of hacks (or decompiled flash) for this ARG will result in the moderators getting involved. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but ruining this game and/or driving people away from this thread and website is unacceptable.
Personally, i'm disgusted that so few here aren't speaking out louder about this. I'm also disgusted that people here seem to think that there's nothing wrong with decompiling the flash.

I am surprised about all the drama here. I consider myself to be fairly new - having played a few games from start to finish, and in each of those games there was freedom to post what people wanted (which is what I liked about this forum). I agree spoilers are in order so you don't have to read it if you don't want to.

SEE, why debate teh freedom of posting when there are spoiler tags???

quit it and Play the game!!!!

Because the issue was about files uploaded in the thread - I could be wrong but I don't think you can spoiler-tag that.

Edit: oh, and we have 48 hours to waste, might as well get into a fight Razz

It totally won't load for me. It was working fine yesterday, but for the last twelve hours or so all I can get is a black screen.

Well, this number we got yesterday. That seems... anticlimactic. But I guess that's a big enough of a hint that decompiling the code breaks the game. I'd suggest we stop it so we don't have another 48 hour wait for something we've already found.

(Either that or start up a [LOST][HACKING] thread or something)

From my perspective, just like reading the last page of a novel, hacking isn't really a good thing. Folks, give your ADHD tendencies a rest and simply play along, mmkay?

BTW, this discussion has come up over and over again in the 60+ yrs that Unfiction has been in business. Someone hacks because they can, someone complains because they were in for the ride, not the solution.

Me, I think that life is the moment, not some imagined future that will someday make you happy. You know, when you get to that endpoint, you still won't be happy. Some other destination or challenge will take its place and you'll still feel unfulfilled.

Enjoy the ride, not get all anxious about how fast you can get to the finish line.

This isn't along the lines of the debate that's been raging on, but I'm suddenly more than a little confused about this game and its backstory in the context of the show:

(Season 3 spoilers, if you haven't watched it yet)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At the end of D.O.C., Naomi says that Flight 815 was found and that everyone was confirmed dead. I don't think whatever team Naomi was part of knew that 815 crashed on the island given what we've heard them say on the season finale and in the season 4 trailers. In addition, John Locke's father comments that the found the plane at the bottom of the ocean.

So how could it be that 815 is missing, Oceanic is giving up the search empty handed, and this game exists?

Re: hacking

is it time yet for Brownie ?
I think y'all want a Brownie...

This is an issue that seems to come up in any campaign that has flash content. For one, if it's not flash, then most likely files will be individually located in your internet cache folder - free game. If it is flash, there are definitely ways for developers to effectively encrypt or obfuscate code, even to decompilers. And there are ways to only serve content when it's needed rather than all at once. So if a website sends you all the content, then you've got the content, whether it's compiled or raw - free game. I love it when developers put little nods to people in their source that you may only see when decompiling - it means they know their audience.

That said, there's also the good point about ruining things for others who don't want to hack, don't know how, or just want to find assets as they're fed, rather than by cutting corners. So where's the middle ground? I think that's been discussed fairly well already. You can't just post what you find and not expect people to get upset (or assume they don't have a right to), but you can't claim rules or foul against anyone just because they do decompile source code and whatnot.

So yes - spoilers, careful reading, and respect your fellow forum members in what you post and how. Can't say much else than what's already been said in this thread anyhow...

now, another Brownie

Rule No. 1 of Lost don't trust anyone! The two people you mention could be (shock horror) not telling the truth!

Very true, but it seems to me that dishonest as he was, Locke's dad had no discernible motivation to lie about that just then. This is very mysterious.

Who says we're playing in the present ... many things tend to suggest the contrary and this adventure seems to be happening just after the crash actually ... and BEFORE the search in the Sunda Trench and the presumed sighting of the crashed plane Wink ... so who's guiding our Sam ? Is it a bad or a good guy ? That's the question .

email list changed order

yesterday and last night whenever I went to Sam's desk and opened his laptop and selected the emails page the "no response" email with the mishmash text from whence we discovered the "the-maxwell-group.com" site was at the top of the list. Now the flight information is at the top of the list.

First of all is it significant that the order changed? Possibly but how...

And second, it doesn't specify which day the flight is to take place, there is no date in the email. Does anyone have any info from before content started disappearing, was there any date in there previously?

Anyone with any thoughts to share on this?

Maybe not a 'flashback' in the sense that we know them from the show, but I defintely think this is taking place in the past and we are going to learn more about what happene to the plane (maybe find out if Oceanic's official statement that the plane was found is actually a cover up?)
