[poll] What do you think happens to the monster? what's the fate of our pal Mr. GP personally I think we won't get to find out. That seems the most likely option. It fits with JJ's style and it leaves us with some questions and the possibility of a sequel.

Definitely open for sequels... or maybe it dies, but like Godzilla, it leaves spores/eggs/larvae behind.

I don't think Abrams is stupid enough to kill off a potential sequel.
It may be severely injured but lives. I'm starting to think the pic in the poster is actually from the end as it's morning. The water seems to still be falling from MGP jumping in the water. The wake may be him leaving...not arriving.

That makes a whole lot of sense. I'm not sure why no one's said that before.

I think he'll limp back into the ocean after being severely injured by the military...but only after he turns NYC into a parking lot.

Seems like not so many people have faith in our military to have the ability to kill large monsters... I suppose that makes sense though, most of them are bullet/missile proof.

He gives the person who nicknamed him "Mr. GrumpyPants" the biggest and most painful wedgie known to man.
Seriously, I don't think he'll be killed. In the leaked footage, a bunch of debris and such fall on the top of Rob and Beth's heads, which I'm assuming comes from the monster's footsteps. If that is indeed the final scene, then the monster is still roaming around.
Enter "Cloverfield pt. 2: The US vs. Clover", shot from the perspective of someone else's camcorder.

Voted "we don't ever find out."
More because that's what I hope happens.
"Open endings" are frowned upon in a lot of cases...this time, that's what I want. I just think it'll be a lot more frightening to believe that the bad stuff hasn't been slowed down at all by the movie's finale. (Would Blair Witch have garnered such a rep if it didn't end the way it did?)
The idea that there's no way to stop this thing (or things) is so much more frightening than the idea that a monster went on a rampage but was ultimately destroyed.
Given that the "hero" characters are searching for someone in the madness and ultimately find her -- I think that's a satisfying conclusion from a storyline standpoint. Rob and Beth get to make amends or kiss or whatever it is they need to do...doesn't mean they can't die!

At the heart of the film, I guess it's been insinuated that this is a love story between Rob and Beth. I think the whole belief that these two die together, after Rob has gone from being the timid guy to the leader of his group, and finally winning Beth's heart is really, really dark. More so if the monster does live on or if we never find out what happened to him.
