I don't think there's enough information to "trust" or "distrust" anything yet. We don't have even the vaguest idea what's going on, let alone who's on whose side - or even if there are sides.

That said, we should bear in mind that someone thinks Martin is a liar, even if we don't know quite what that means.

to answer the question about October 31 2003, that would be Random Martins first birthday after he went missing. I have updated the wiki to reflect this

The PHP anagram solves to:

O GOSH RANDOM MARTIN TOKYO JAPAN

Not sure if this is the answer or just coincidental.

looks good.

"O GOSH" seems out of place but so does "shogo, goosh, sogoh, hogos, shoog etc..."

Nice Work!

I think we may be looking at Ghost for that last word

the question is did we copy it down wrong or did it change?

Thanks for the "GHOST", I am not that good in English anagrams.

=> It didn't change.

Yeah, that's my fault.
When copying it down to the wiki last night I for whatever reason put two "o's" instead of two "t's" for the last page. Embarassed
Sorry about that, and thanks for catching it.

There was a change last night. the directory names have been changed, removing the starspill, leaving just the numbers.

Also there is a chat room I don't think anyone knows about, #qu13e.

There's now a LJ page at qu13e.livejournal.com. I don't know if that's new or not. So far, there's nothing on the page at all.

QU13E

I'm somewhat new to ARGs, played Missing ages ago, seems like that's the closest I've gotten. Glad to finally try one of these out.

Looked at the LJ page, I get a username/password prompt. Not terribly sure what to think of it, as I'm not an LJ user. I tried a few username/password combo's since I know a few blogs have password protected entries that you can give out to others to let them see your message. As far as I can tell, that's not the case with this one. Also, after glancing at qu13e's friends and their blogs, I don't really feel this is related to the ARG.

Hope I can become more helpful in the future on this game, seems like it'll be a blast.

translations

ok i got the translations. sorry it took so long.
1. absinthe bottle the writing under the 58. not on the original bottle. it means "bicycle"

2. bicycle picture. kanji next to bike seat. means "pay attention" or "watch out". very light kanji on the same pole, concrete bottom. means "entrance" or "enter"

3. train tracks puzzle picture. means "pay attention"

4.the zig zag stairway picture. bottom right kanji. means "soul"

5. picture with bars and sign with 4 kanji means "do not enter"

if anybody can please get the original resolution picture in JPG. when they were put together some quality was lost and it makes them hard to see. hence some things cant be translated yet.
on my next day off i will be going out to tokyo to try to find out exactly what train station the picture of the moving train and tokyo sign was taken at. i have a feeling that there are more clues in the other puzzle pictures.
also if you look on the clock picture and the bicycle picture(above the sign ) you can see 5 black marks looks like a face.

Keyword quotations

Good work on those kanji translations!

I'm new to this game, but I was intrigued enough to poke around, and I may have some new information. The nine phrases given by the pictures' keywords all seem to be quotations, and I think I've sourced seven of them. No idea what the connections are, or where this might lead, if anywhere. Here are all nine, including the two I haven't tracked down:

595/X00:
"Yet, everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number really."
- Paul Bowles, The Sheltering Sky (1949).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sheltering_Sky
also note connection to actor Brandon Lee.

389/X01:
"The light from the rooftop vanished leaving him with mismatched afterimages of muzzle-flash monster and white beam."
- William Gibson, Neuromancer (1984).
http://lib.ck.ua/win/GIBSON/neuromancer.txt_Piece40.04

010/X03:
"The day after meeting my shadow, I immediately set about making a map of the Town."
???

369/X05:
"...they would run in packs and leap out at him all at once"
- Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere (1996).
http://books.google.com/books?id=yuCUZ3km3qIC

919/X07:
"...floor collapsing, falling, bouncing back and one day I am gonna grow wings... "
- Radiohead, "Let Down" from OK Computer (1997).
http://www.ateaseweb.com/songs/letdown.php
the official lyrics are "floor collapses, floating, bouncing back...", but the variant above is listed on a few less authoritative sites.

619/X09:
"...THIS IS A WORLD OF LIES... THE LIES CANNOT BE STOPPED. THEY HAVE MOMENTUM."
???

333/X11:
"...it's doing me in, doing me in, doing me in, doing me in..."
- Thom Yorke, "The Eraser" from The Eraser (2006).
http://www.ateaseweb.com/theeraser/theeraser.php

345/X13:
"Hustlers of the world, there is one Mark you cannot beat: The Mark Inside."
- William S. Burroughs, Naked Lunch (1959).
http://books.google.com/books?id=MlvMaAKiobgC

039/X15:
"...take this and run far away, far away from me. I am tainted."
- Nine Inch Nails, "And All That Could Have Been" from Still (2002).

Wow, good job. Maybe the unsourced ones are IG messages?
