How about this for time order of events:

1. The Tagruato satellite spotted something falling into the Atlantic but is only now getting around to announcing it.

2. TIDOWAVE went to the coordinates of Chuai Station and found absolutely nothing there.

3. Tagruato just now gets around to announcing an incident at the station and is blaming Eco-Terrorists. (TIDOWAVE)

But they insist it wasn' them.

Well here's my DBZ theory, don't laugh...yet. What if the MGP is like a pet from another alien race that was sent here to destroy as much of Earth as possible before the real alien masters arrive? Kind like in DBZ where they would send a single Sayin warrior to a planet, wait for a full moon then go king kong on the planet and it's populace, and the rest of the Sayin's would go and clean up the planet and sell it off. Maybe the "aliens" in Cloverfield (if there are any) sent him down to destroy, sent a virus with the MGP, and also sent lil beasties as well to do a thorough clean up on a few different levels? just a thought.
