[Spec][Insane idea] What if we're reading this the wrong way

after sitting around for a while last night, and part of today, i've come up with a fairly flimsy hypothisis as to why this might have occurred to dana's aunt's website.

stick with me, becuase as stated, this is rather flimsy, and i just thought of it conciously a little bit ago;

A) The dates of the countdown on the main ILB site and the date that dana is supposed to fly out to bejing are nearly identical.

B) The "countdowntochina.js" and the blogger post from dana about her reasoning to go to China (open ended backpacking trip) seem flimsy at best.

I can sort of get a "I'm extremely apprehensive about doing this, as a lot of things could go terribly wrong" persepective from how the post was authored.

Dana's entire family thinks that this trip is too dangerous to undertake alone, or at all. Dana see's the point, but wants to anyway as a method of escape (survive, evade, reveal, escape).

C) Dana is tired of living in san fransisco, and wants to take this trip as a form of self searching, as well as a vacation. she wants her aunt's website to survive this attack (survive) and then head out to bejing on the next flight out (evade). Perhaps she finds something that the glitches in her website are giving her premonitions about? (reveal), what afterwards? Does she survive the run in with the objects/people/place/giraffe? (escape).

It's just rampant speculation.

Damnit, midnight, hurry up and get here!

That IS kinda crazy..

And Dana would have to be some kind of supergenius (and/or professional sci-fi writer) to hide all the references to the Widows Journey in the images, for instance.

Oh, and i wanted to mention that this is purely hyper speculation, and i'm merely looking for alternate angles to translate this mess into, so no hitting me with the trout-gun, plz Very Happy

Also, from this snippet;

Quote:
I went hiking in Claremont Canyon yesterday to clear my head. Three hours, six miles, and 1000 ft elevation change later, I was sweaty, sunburnt and still fixated on the bug and its countdown. While up there, didn't pay enough attention to the trail... scratched my palms slipping on loose gravel, more than once. Now it hurts to type.

It would be implied that she is not the best hiker in the world, and is prone to losing her train of thought easily on complicated paths.

perhaps this is another slight "premonition" (for lack of a better word) that IF she goes to bejing that something bad is going to happen, worse than not being able to type.

Heck, why not. Indeed I would be very surprised if any ARG did not take a few right turns off the path we think we see. If not today, then later. That's the fun of it!

(The trip is hard to defend. Beijing is the first stop on an open-ended backpacking trip through East/Southeast Asia, a trip I have no good reason to be taking (as my parents like to remind me), except (as I point out to them, though sometimes kind of quietly and maybe even after they've left the room) I've been "home" — in one way or another — for 22 years now, and absolutely everywhere I go is already drenched with my own history.

I'm tired of being so...known.

So I guess you could say that the point of this trip is to make the stone stony. And I'm the stone. And I'll come back whenever I'm unfamiliar enough that it won't feel anymore like home has reached its saturation point of me.)

See, this just sits the wrong way with me. I'm trying to figure out in my head what could possibly be so bad about "being known" in san-fran, unless she's got some sort of other history we haven't found yet (or obviously doesn't exsist). the general vibe is eather A) something bad is going to happen.
B) she's going to get very lost, seperated from her group (They'll come for me, i'd die for them, so they must come for me)
C) She'll sustain a fall (as noted in my previous post) and need to be "mended" or "fixed" by a shamanistic / hermetic people of where she has traveled in china..

Shocked

the more i think about this the stronger the theory becomes in my head, please help me punch holes in this before i start losing focus on the other strong, valid ideas that have been speculated thus far. Razz

Assuming that the entire website has been hacked with prophetic intent by an AI who likes to make pretty stories up about the code it generates... then it's a possible assumption.

This would be consistent with her always saying that she is lost among the many emails she recieved or comments for her blog. For example, from one of her comments:

Quote:
Dana said...
AUGH. headache. too much noise, I am losing the signal...
I am turning off anonymous comments for now.
thanks, guys.

I always find her using words like "process" or "repurpose" quite interesting. They don't really sound like human. Then again maybe she's just trying to be cute .....

Hmm, I hadn't noticed this bit before. This could be a reference to The Stone, what might be the first Internet Mystery site, kind of a precursor to The Beast. She says that she IS the Stone, so maybe the people from The Stone are involved. Since people have forgotten about it by now (mostly) the bit about the being unfamiliar enough to not be over saturated does fit...

Of course, it's equally as likely to be an inside joke to ARGers or rampant overspeculation.

Regards,

I just remembered something. In the Halo novels, a "smart" A.I. would literally think itself to death in about 7 years. They would gain to much information and stop their normal functions. Like Dr. Hasley said, it'd be as if a human thought so much that they would forget to have their heart pump blood. So mabye Dana is a rampant A.I. which created this site about bees (if it was connected to Halo in anyway maybe they have something to do with the Covenant or Flood) And made up 2 stories. The one we see on her blogs and the little messages we seee on the pictures. They sort of seem linked. Maybe home has too much info and she wants to transfer herself over the Bejing to "restart" and when all the data about San Francisco is gone, she'll come back. Sorry, just doing my best to make sense of this Dunno

Now, taking this line out of context a little, we can assume a few things.

Dana is lost, and searching to find herself amongs the millions of other "worker bees" of san fransisco. She wants to take a very long, possibly dangerous backpacking trip to Asia (Bejing, China), where she will, (spec) "take an open ended backpacking trip across China)

Perhaps the trip to china is signifying (and i realize i'm grasping at straws her, but wild speculation is fun and lets me flex my otherwise unused brain muscles) that dana needs to undergo a transformation. Perhaps into a bee, perhaps into a wholly other person.

Maybe i'm reading this wrong, and if we look further into the china aspect of the journey, maybe we can get some more information;

Perhaps, considering
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2002-08/24/content_537009.htm

in this article, it lists how a terra cotta like tomb was found, in China, and that the main "Queen" (empress) was missing from the site (out of game, i know, but stick with me, my story gets better).

Now, Could this be our Queen that was spoke off throughout the whole "bee" shitick? Perhaps that bee being missing is a clue to something larger, fuckall if i know exactly to what.

But when you think abou the widow story, and how the widow infilrates the queens castle, and rebuilds them ( She walked through the empty / corridors of the Keep searching for her Queen, past / the bodies of her servants and subjects / that lay dead or enchanted. ) Could this be something to do with the Terra Cotta? (connections to Dana's China trip and the queen/widow (empress) story?)

Quote:
To mend the queen's cuts the Widow took her sharp knife and / peeled skin from the bodies of her subjects, while the Queen's / new eyes and ears she cut from those who had been / her most trusted servants.
Agian, could this be another way of saying

"To mend the queen's cust, the widow took her sharp knife and peeled the skin from the terra cotta army, her loyal subjects, while her new eyes and ears came from her mst trusted servants."

I think that tonights update could eather totally shatter this idea, or go along with it in a fairly interesting way.

Dana seems as though she needs to get to china. though you can read her apprehension and worry about taking the trip on, as her parents vocally suggest. She seems a bit immature from some of the comments.
Quote:
(The trip is hard to defend. Beijing is the first stop on an open-ended backpacking trip through East/Southeast Asia, a trip I have no good reason to be taking (as my parents like to remind me), except (as I point out to them, though sometimes kind of quietly and maybe even after they've left the room) I've been "home" — in one way or another — for 22 years now, and absolutely everywhere I go is already drenched with my own history.
for instance.

She also seems to suffer from headaches, she can't keep a strong focus on subjects, and she uses cryptic terminoligy that a computer geek would use. (such as "Process" and such). While she did create a geocities type website, some knowledge of it would have to be created for div layers, CSS, javascript, etc. Even IF this is all just normal activity by a computer savvy girl, there is definatly something underlying in the china trip connection. I almost want to call it a "hunch" but since i have no extremely substantial proof other than her wanting a "change" (survive), to become "unrecognizeable" (evade) to her old "home" (reveal), then

well i kind of lose it here.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and i had totally forgot to mention the whole "I am the Stone" thing, which can be easily linked to the Terra Cotta Army.

Just a quick addition to Thock's comments. In reference to the link he provides, it outlines a mystery surrounding the Qin Shi Huang mausoleum. Interestingly enough the discovery happened on August 24th.

There seem to be a lot of references to sand and stone, which made the terra cotta figures stand out in my mind.

Quote:
playing on the beach, very young, making a castle out of sand. It's a good castle, I'm smart, I'm really smart and I'm good with my hands and the castle is beautiful but the tide is coming up, I'm making dikes and moats and outer walls, getting a little desperate here this castle means the world to me it's way better than my brother's, but the tide is rising and rising, the tide is always coming up and no matter how hard I try to save what I have made, sooner or later the spiders wash over it and melt it down I'm losing the memory already I can't see myself was I wearing a dress or overalls or ...? There's a boy on the beach next to me but a wave comes up foaming with spiders and takes away his face-

oh.

we're made of sand.

we're both made of sand.

The "Mayday" speaker also makes comments about water. Dana numerous times speaks of "throwing an oar" into situations. Another tenuous connection.

This is all very wild spec based on the little we know thusfar. If this thought line has any viability after tomorrow's reveal I'll probably put more thought into it.

I just want to say I like these alternate trains of thought, and I think it's a great idea to consider the possibility that Operator/Queen/whatever chose ilovebees not because of something about the site or bees, but because of Dana.

Dana's leaving for alien territory -- heading off on a mission, you could say -- and imagines she'll come back as something wholly unfamiliar. That sounds like the Operator to me, although the Operator's transformation does not seem to be voluntary.

What if Dana's trip, or Dana herself, is just another metaphor for the Operator?
