I'll likely get there the Thursday before the panels... anyone getting there that early or everyone piling in Friday?

May I recommend
.

May I recommend the Hynes Convention Center? It is a HUGE, newly renovated space, with about 7 hotels right around it. It has its own "T" (the subway) stop, and is much more convenient than the Boston Convention Center, which is several miles away. (And not on the subway system).

Just my 2 cents, as a Boston Resident. Looking forward to my first ARG-fest-o-con (and the t-shirt contest, as well)

Please do not get too excited about the Cheers bar (real name: Bull & Finch Pub). It's pretty much a tourist trap and it looks nothing like the bar in the show. Razz

Other Boston attractions that might be more emotionally satisfying:

The Freedom Trail (includes a stop at Old Ironsides along with other colonial and historic sites)
Museum of Science (Duck Tours also leave from the Museum and are a fun way to see the city.)
Museum of Fine Arts
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
Fenway Park
Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market (also touristy, but good bars, restaurants and shops)
New England Aquarium
Boston Public Garden/Boston Common
North End
Downtown Crossing
Newbury Street
Chinatown
Mapparium
Boston Public Library
Charles River - rowing, sailing, concerts at the Hatch Shell
Harbor Islands
Whale Watching (also leaves from the Aquarium, but the best tours leave from North of Boston, in Gloucester and Newburyport)

Also across the river in Cambridge: Harvard, MIT, Mount Auburn Cemetery. Harvard Square is a fun place to go for drinks, food, and shopping.

And I'm sure there's other stuff I'm forgetting. Each area of Boston has its own set of shops and restaurants, each with a different neighborhood feel.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. If there's enough interest in one specific attraction/event, we could probably arrange for a group tour/tickets.

And, according to my friend Lacey, Lizzy Borden's house is only an hour away...

Oh I know it's nothing like the TV show Smile learned that the day I heard, many many many years ago while it aired, that the show was based on a real bar. I still want to go Smile heh (and yes I know its real name too - they generally go by both, if only for the tourism). But hey, if reviews of the place are really low, then I may pass... otherwise, even if there's one other person who wants to go, I'll go (probably wouldn't go if I'm the only one, that would just be depressing Razz)

Other than that though, I'll likely follow the crowd for other attractions... I'm sure there are some great places to visit and such. We always have a good time =)

If this happens, then I will personally lead a walking tour to the site of Samuel Adams' home, where we can all take a well-deserved rest. Wink

Maybe we should tour the Sam Adams Brewery first, so we have something to sleep off. Very Happy

I am the worst tourist at ARGfest - but I could become thirsty at some point ...

And to PAHK ya CAH! Very Happy Seriously, Harvard Square has just about everything Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market doesn't.

Yeah, like Top o' the Pru! You could probably see your house from there Very Happy

Really looking forward to Festering in Boston - such a great town and so much to do/see! Bring your walking shoes and "T" passes - you seriously DO NOT want to drive in this town! The "T" goes everywhere (yes, even to/from the Airport, last I knew) and is on-par with the NYC subway system in timeliness (except after a Red-Sox game - but even then, I was on a train in about 15 min.)
