New licorice project ?

The 2008 forecast mentioned something about a new project by Licorice media. I can not find anything about it on either their website nor here in the forums. Where did that tidbit come from? Any news whether it's going to be ARG or geocaching ?

Cross-platform media project(s) by Licorice Media.

According to Jon, it will involve QR Codes (it came up in the thread about QR Codes and their adoption) as well as something called Mscape. The linked thread goes into some detail with regards to the project, sponsored by Hewlett Packard. Whether or not it's an ARG will probably be discussed, debated, and parsed after the release but I assume from the post that it wouldn't be a typical ARG. Wink

Quote:
In September this year Hewlett Packard commissioned Licorice (Hazel & Jon) to develop a cross platform narrative of equal scale to Meigeist that integrates their Mscape and QR Code technology for launch in first quarter 2008.

They're also developing a Bristol-centric game where
Quote:
One player takes the role of the seeker, armed with a PDA and two way radio they play outside on the street. The other members of the team work together using a large screen installation. This screen shows a 3D environment that reflects the real world space, highlighting goals, puzzles and obstacles that they must direct the seeker to. The seeker can not see these obstacles, so communication is vital to success. The team must work together in a race against the clock, harmonising their virtual and physical actions to overcome the challenges of the environment. Once the time is up, the team's score is recorded and posted to an online league table for all to see.

mscape= mediascape. That's the geocaching application (HP bloatware IMO) they used for the Timehole game. Let's hope it's only part of it. Meigeist was wonderful- I still got my fingers crossed we'll get a worthy successor.

IMO, this is something to really look forward to if it goes off correctly. Mscape is actually a pretty neat idea - once the computing power becomes available in a smaller form-factor (graphics might be a bit of a hangup) you could have things like location-aware MMORPGs - it's Second Life/WoW/whatever, except it's taking place here, in your world, based on your present surroundings.
