[PRESS] Empire article
Doesn't quite reveal the "Truth behind J.J. Abrams' monster myster!" but is still interesting read

Like the byline said, the newest edition of Empire hit shelves either today or on Friday, and as promised had an article on Cloverfield spanning six pages (five of article and sixth being half of a huge graphic).

I have scanned and uploaded the article pages for those interested in reading it, although as there's other interesting articles I'd encourage British posters to buy it anyway as you get a nice Indiana Jones IV teaser poster.

Unlike the claim, the article doesn't really reveal the truth over it... but basically elaborates on it for anyone who hasn't been a part of the viral marketing campaign... some amusing notes here and there as well as a pretty accurate play-by-play timeline of what was discovered in order of earliest discovery to latest.

Enjoy!:

If I'm the only one in a theatre who laughs when the army guy says 'you can't drink just six', Abram's job will be done.

Oh and by the way I'm positive that guy is a guest/active user here on unfiction. He knows about everything, save the hack of the myspace account. He knows about the title of found and overnight.

"he does indicate we might be missing the point"

Shit, it's a metaphor.

The caption on pg60 is wrong.
It says that it's Rob and Beth holding the door in the pic...but it's obviously Rob and Lil.

I hate when they get this stuff wrong... Mad

The accuracy of the rest of the article makes up for it.

Oh and that whole segment about the box at the end? That's just a play on Jamie's box.

They forgot to credit Odette Yutsman too.

Sounds like The Lost Experience to me. I absolutely loved The Lost Experience though it had very little to do with the show, and I've loved the Cloverfield ARG/E whether or not it has anything to do with the movie. More of the same from Abrams, and it has worked out quite well, don't you think?

This is absolutely the most even-handed article I've seen about the film yet.
It gets more of the details right (that are publicly known that is), even capturing the bits of fan speculation found all over.

The mention of the idea of a 'marshmallow man' monster suggests to me that the author has indeed seen or followed the dialog here.

The way I read it, what we've learned via Slusho.jp, MySpace, Tagruato.jp, jamieandteddy.com, and TIDOwave is peripherally related to the movie, but not completely dissociated. It is indeed backstory, but as they state it's not critical to experiencing the film. I expected that from the beginning, because films that require you to have too much foreknowledge of story tend to be hideously tedious, massively confusing (if you don't know the story), or irritatingly inaccurate (if you are of course familiar with the story).

So what we are left with is that knowing what's actually IN the film is going to be left to what we've been shown in the trailers and ads and the film itself. Amazing how he's kept us so captivated with this story, yet not basically spoiled the film for us.

Pssh. The idea of having the internet is so that it's the only thing you will ever have to pay for again, ever. Besides Hot Pockets and diapers.

Anyone else love how Abrams doesn't use a word like "tangent" or anything, he says "tentacles"?

EDIT: Empire magazine seems really cool, how have I never heard about it?

I know what you mean. The world moves far too fast for many things for magazines to keep up these days. And it's Lean Pockets and diapers in the Toasy household.

Isn't this the second time the word tentacles has been mentioned in an interview? I think it was Matt Reeves using it before.
