It would be just too big of a download to get ovet LIVE! so thats a No Go...

One level would easily be downloaded over XBL.
They first release a patch through the dash that downloades all the codes so the game work then you you buy the actual game.

A single map-file for a game is usually around 4-5 meg.

A full demo nowadays is around 400-500meg. You have to keep in mind that they have to include the game engine, all the textures, all the audio, any cinematics, etc etc etc

So take your estimate of how long it'd take to download a single level, and multiply it by a hundred.

Idea: Flawed.

Even though Bungie said they don't do demos before release Wink

This is a point of contention among the various fanboys.

Prior to this ARG, the HALO2 FAQ contained a question concerning whether a demo would be released or not, and Bungie flatly said that no demo would be made available.

That portion of the FAQ has been removed and can no longer be found. The issue of a demo is not being addressed at all on Bungie now, leaving the possibility open.

I gotta agree... XBox Live I guess is the only possibility (if the countdown was actually coutingdown to a specific time/date), but would MS really want to stake their network's reputation on a giant, high-profile demo release like that? I mean, up until now, the Xbox Live nework has only been used to download (fairly) small dashboard updates and game content. Sending a demo to 1 million subscribers (no doubt all trying to get it all at once) just sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

A magazine release makes more sense just from a practical point of view, but then the whole idea that all this is leading up to something happening at a specific time would be thrown out the window since not all retailers get magazines at the same time, etc.

Do you think that they would start the game this early if everything was to be resolved by end of August? What's the purpose???

This is just the begining of a game (if it's the Beast 2) that is going to last several months. In less than 17 weeks the xbox game will be launched and by that time we would have reached the climax of this game which maybe at that point would have evolved to become something that may not have any relation to Halo 2.

I don't see the point in speculation around August 24th while all we have is a couple of named characters and only 2 (two, read my lips, TWO) sites!

Wait and see...and eventually enjoy the ride.

Much less than 17 months until Halo 2 is released.

Check your avatar again. Wink

And I don't think that this game will last longer than one year...
