As for the sound effect itself, it sounds a lot like the primary fire of the gravity gun from Half-Life 2, but all that means is that particular effect is from a openly available sound pack or something.

Hmm, I'll try and compare them.

Have you played the Director's Commentary of HL2: Episode Two?
They point out a secret reference to Lost at the bottom of the missile silo, they put it in there after contacting JJ Abrams when they noticed some HL refrerences in Lost.

No, I haven't, but I'm also only halfway through Episode 2. I did a little bit of comparison just by trying to find a video on youtube that had audio of the gravity gun (didn't want to try delving into game files to get the actual sound). I'm definitely NOT saying it's exactly the same, but I think they sound similar.

Wow, ok cool. It is perfectly acceptable for a news agency to just subtitle and dub over another newsagency's footage eh? Yet the Korean dub has more scenes/footage?

If by dub you mean to say the video with the Korean overlay also has Korean being spoken, I think you are mistaken. I could be wrong, but if a Japanese speaker could check I think the report behind the Korean overlay has Japanese dialog. I also notice the voice and the graphics are different than the other Japanese clip we've seen - hence my interest in seeing the 'original' for this clip.

By 'dub' I meant in the basic sense of the word. Can anyone confirm this? Is it actually spoken Japanese or Korean?(in the Korean video that is...)

Euchre: I've had no luck finding another more complete original Japanese vid out there. You?

Half the posts on this thread are about how crappy the CGI is.... then they turn right around and swear there's tentacles, heads, flippers.... in the water.

Ever think that these things everyone thinks they're seeing are just bad CGI "artifacts"? Not to mention these videos are posted on the worst picture resolution website known to man: Youtube.

Doesn't matter, in a week we will know if the creature has tentacles. If it doesn't, I'll enjoy reviewing the 48 other threads like this one.

I'm with you. Yes it looks like poo, but then again just about everything on YouTube does. It's not how it looks. It's the content.

I guess you have to remember "don't judge a book by it's cover." Or in this case, "don't judge a movie pre-emptively (sp?) by it's poorly presented CGI tid-bits on YouTube."

Or something like that.

There's a definite case for the tentacles. At 30-31 seconds in, I see several tentacles coming up and enveloping the station. But I could be very wrong. It's probably just because of the crappy quality.
