Then again, from the filmmaker's perspective, New York came first, the monster's backstory came second.

 		MGP probably just was playing around with the tanker and dumped it in NY harbor cause he got bored. Like a kid with a plastic sumarine in a bathtub.

Since Jamie dipped into the DSN jar. What if it makes her body emit a pheromone and MGP is drawn to it.

Then its prob been discussed and besides, Jamie isnt in the movie anyway right? Besides being named.

touche' its not "near" new york per say. but it is in the right area for a monster to attack and than make its way to new york over the next 12 days... lol

i was typing in a hurry, my brain still hurts from all this. but i meant to say its in the right ocean. in a relatively central location.

And i still dont buy the atlantis thing. why throw an obscure referance into an "original" monster movie?
