I'm currently working on a new thread which summarizes the main points of the mecha-thread and serves and a jumping off point for further discussion so people don't have to sift through 105 pages just to contribute. Good?

I'm confused. Does your monitor have such hideous resolution, you can only diplay like.. 3 threads per page?

Here is a hint: If a thread doesn't interest you, don't open it. I understand the need to try to keep a board tidy, but this is by far, the most anal I've seen any board in regards to removing threads, and /trouting if you bring up something that was perhaps remotely connected 12 weeks ago buried on page 19.

There is a ton of new stuff, and the movie is due out soon, don't get in a tizzy, just ignore threads that don't concern you.

what im saying is, whats wrong with a 500 page thread about 6 videos in 6 different languages? you would rather have 1 thread for each and 1 for comparison? you just arent making sense to me. people continue to have ideas.

what im saying is that a thread that big that has nothing new for 50 pages needs to die and no one will let it so it should be locked because its getting very stupid in it. nothing new from any of the videos and its all out there ideas that aren't going anywhere. we have a thread for the tanker and we should work on that for awhile. if a new piece of evidence is presented then make a thread on it. that thread is all spam and should go just like the old one someone thought would be fun to bring back.
lol, mods fobid someone have fun playing a game and break away from the seriousness Cursing

I'm not going to lock those threads - the community deals with them far better than mods can by locking and I present just one small example of that here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21875

You're beautiful people, if I was prone to embarrassing emotional outbursts I'd hug you all. However, that's not my style. I merely doff my cap and move on.

Not locking the threads is fine. That makes sense. But I've been on many a board where you at least had to be around a little bit before you could make a new thread. I now see why.

That may be a problem that needs rectification, soon.

Apart from what has already been said by various others, I'll add the following:

Remember, a lot of us are (maybe temporary) guests in this community, and none of the other forums on UF seem to have the problems this one does: Which primarily comes from it being less an ARG forum and more a "fans of Cloverfield" forum.

I think it mostly has to do with the huge volume of posts in this forum, and the equally huge amount of new people still coming in. Locking those threads would probably lead to an increase in new threads being started, which clutters the forum much, much more.

Having said that, I'd like to stress that everyone here is very much welcome to stay at Unfiction and follow along with new (or existing) stuff going on here after the Cloverfield madness has ended Smile

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, most forum mods and admins really hate being forced to take sides in a subjective argument like this. This might've been something best left to PMs.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no harm in voicing opinion in here. We are more than willing to explain our actions and motivation if needed.

I do not see any need to change that. We want to be equally welcoming to new people as we are to existing members. Frankly, I think that if you're not, you pretty soon end up with a very close-knit 'elite' little community, which makes no sense for Unfiction: ARGs are collaborative experiences, that need a community of people playing/following them.

It's true that this sometimes has a negative effect on the signal/noise ratio on this forum, and yes, it would be much more convenient if new people would read every thread front to back first and automatically started using the Search function before posting, but we know that there'll always be people who won't, so I think we'd best invest in helping them get up to speed and pointing them to the available resources instead of preventing them to post in old threads or new ones.

Oh, and looking at your suggestion practically, I don't see how people would be prevented from quickly churning out a bunch of useless posts so they have enough to start new threads themselves, needlessly cluttering the forum even more...

Thanx, That was one of my early posts when I was so obsessed with finding something first. I have always been treated with respect and kindness because I do the same, remember the "Golden Rule"!
