 		 [SPEC]Is it possible?
How long would it take from the Atlantic ridge to liberty Island 2,265 miles (roughly)?
So riddle me this uF, how long would it take if you were a monster the size of the SOL to walk (or swim?) from the Atlantic ridge (around portugal islands) to Liberty Island to give the ol' lady a dope slap?
The estimated distance as a straight shot 2265 miles.
Given Chuai station was on December 27th and the monster arrives on the morning of January 18th.
Discuss.

 		you have to take into account if MGP can swim or not, if not he would be walking or running across the sea floor, which has a lot of mountains and chasms, and unless he busts thru the mountains or jumps over the trenches or goes around them, it would be a lot longer then 2,265 miles

but however he gets here, it would be 22 days either way, which figures out to be 4.2 MPH, or 6 f/s, but you also got to count in the resistance of the water not allowing him to get up to full speed, and also the launch breaks, and cig breaks...

 		Well... at 2265 miles, and 22 days... it would have to travel 102.95 miles per day.

Assuming it rest 8 hours a day... that would give it 16 travel hours per day...

so, it would have to maintain a steady 6.43 miles/ hour.

Blue Whales (largest animal on Earth... barring MGP) normally swim 3 - 20 mph (with burst up to 30 mph). Feeding speeds are slower (between 1-4 mph...) which begs the question ... what would a MGP eat? Normally... other than metropolitan areas.

Anyway... assuming MGP has been somewhat adapted for swimming... it would seem that arriving in NYC on 1/18/08 is a reasonable expectation.

 		actually, if MGP was adapt at swimming, and did swim at a whales speed, adding in the fact that if a sea mammal stopped swimming it would probably die (i heard it years ago, i just never bothered to check it lately so it could be wrong) it would get here about 3 days sooner

 		Remember that its a monster.
It doesn't have a built in sense of direction.
Unless it uses map quest or has a built in GPS,
it doesn't know where its going.
It's just roaming around for a bit.
Then it might see the tanker and follow it,
and that's why it comes to NYC.

Also, for the record, it is my understanding that sharks, for example, don't "rest"; if they do, they effectively drown, don't they?

I'm not saying MGP's a shark; I'm just using it as an example.

that still would make it about 4-8 MPH, as a ship that big would only be between 15-30 knots, which is about 6-12 MPH (guess)

and i remember in google that if you put in london from new york it'd chart a path over the atlantic telling you to swim for 4,000 miles...

Interesting.
Can a monster that big be that slow in the water?
Wasn't this called a sea creature by someone involved in production?

Because I would assume that if its a sea creature it would most likely be really good at swimming. Wow, this is getting more interesting by the minute.

Now that you mention that, it doesn't seem
likely that it would follow a tanker.

 		The German Chaui station news report said that the station was 1500 km from New York, which is about 900 miles.

I'll double check. When I did the math, I came up with a steady 6 mph to get from the incident to New York on the 18th. I'll check the news report and my maths again, though.

I estimated the miles by where on the map they showed Chaui Station (near portugal islands) to New York Harbor. which then either the German news is wrong or the maps are horribly wrong.
