[CF]Shadow Unit

This looks to have the makings of some good CF, with some very good authors writing it. Shadow Unit seems to be small right now, but it's intriguing. It is highly vague, but isn't that the standard beginning? The bottom of the page has a brief description, which I've included.

The F.B.I.'s Behavioral Analysis Unit hunts humanity's nightmares. But there are nightmares humanity doesn't dream are real.

The Behavioral Analysis Unit sends those cases down the hall.

Welcome to Shadow Unit.
For the moment, most of the discussion is going on at their forum, which SpaceBass found. It's over here.

They only link two profiles from the front page but there are more, along with some placeholder pages and a mostly-empty forum.

Looks interesting. Needless to say I can't see that much now because I'm at school, but I'm going to check this out more thoroughly at home.

well. I checked it out.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
After typing in someone elses last name in the address bar, for the profiles, (as noted in above spoiler text), you can also see links to the forum and every other members profile. Most of them are empty as of now, but you can register on forums.

I found out through Emma Bull's livejournal. She's an author I really like and respect, and she mentioned it there. Some other authors I like have also brought it up.

I've found a more complete description of what this will be like. You can read the whole thing here, but I've included the main bits.
Quote:
Over the next couple of months, the site will be updated on a weekly or biweekly basis with new information, vignettes, character sketches, character bios, a community message board, and other exciting things.

And starting in mid-February, there will be a series of novellas and novellettes, and one complete novel. Approximately one story every two weeks for sixteen weeks (though we are still tweaking the schedule), comprising the first season (of hopefully many) of a television show that doesn't exist.

Some of the content will be free. Some will be by subscription. (Subscriptions will be extremely reasonable.) There will be DVD extras, deleted scenes, background information, character-based digressions, and I dunno what all else.
Subscription? Mega bummer.

My interest is definitely peeked. I'll be watching until the thread until cloverfever passes (there is so much there it's really hard to keep up) and I have more time. Smile

First episode is up in Mid-Feb so I've got time.

The subscription thing is a let down, but if it's of good quality I don't have a big problem with paying the creative minds a "reasonable" fee.

Time will tell, right?

subscription for Shadow Unit: don't worry!

We're still talking about how to release Shadow Unit, but don't worry about it being some kind of obnoxious expensive subscription thing. We're having the fun first. We're just starting to think about the business model now in order to let us keep having the fun. We're leaning toward a model like that of Issa, the former Jane Siberry: pay what you want. Maybe we'll do something different, but I promise, it won't exclude anyone, no matter what your financial situation might be.

P.S.

Y'all are awesome. Just wanted to add that.

And now I'll get back to Shadow Unit things. I doubt I'll have time to pop back in here, but if you have any questions about Shadow Unit, any of the writers involved will be glad to have you ask on our blogs or on the SU board. And then we'll do our best to keep from giving you a useful answer, 'cause really, that's where the fun is.

BoingBoing covers Shadow Unit
(I know, probably should have saved this for the press section, but figured this would be informative)
