[META]So what now? Life after Cloverfield...... I know that this is probably in the wrong section...my apologies.
I was introduced to ARGs by NINs Year Zero. I am a music huge fan and not really a computer person but I still found it very fascinating. My first exposure to forums in general was for YZ (see I told you I am not a computer person). I was like, "Oh other ppl are trying to figure this out too?" Thats when the fun really began for me. I enjoy the brainstorming and teamwork that occurs in ARGs and I would look forward to the zainy comments and theories that some of you are known for (you know who you are). After YZ ended, I've kind of been bouncing from DK and Cloverfield.
With DK somewhat dormant and Cloverfield about to end, what ARGs are you guys going to follow? Is there something out there or on the horizon that looks promising for heated debates about random bits of pictures and the meanings of cryptic passages? Is it time to spend more time in the "primary reality" as it were?
PS: Again sorry for posting in here but I really wanted to get this message out there with this group of people before everyone "abandons ship".
Moving to appropriate forum. - E

Yes, Dark Knight, and either Star Trek or Transformers 2. But nothing will be like this in quiet awhile. :\

when this is all over, I'll be picking up my life where I left it off in November. I'll be calling my parents, letting them know I'm still alive...they think I died two months ago. And, I'll start doing my university work again. Hopefully, people still remember who I am.

I'm actually hoping that this ARG doesn't stop. I'd like for JJ to take it to the next level. We all have spent to much time with this ARG, and I would like for this to continue.
Especially if this makes mad bucks and they make a second. That all depending what happens at the end of this movie. (Don't tell me what happens, not spoilers please! )
But yea, I would like for this to continue no matter what. But other than that, I would have to go with the DK one. I'll have alot to catch up on. But that's ok.

I'm looking forward to the Ghostbusters (game) ARG that should be starting up. And will probably jump into a new trailhead.

I think that the story will continue online after the New York city attack, depending on how many hits and memorabilia gets sold after the movie.

I'll be:
Following this if it continues online.
Playing Silverladder.
Attempting to have a life.
Being frusterated at the Panic! At The Disco games.
Playing Find815, Heroes 360, and Dark Knight.
Waiting for the Ghostbusters ARG.
And playing whatever other ARGs I get interested in!

Wait for Dark Knight, Iron Man, and Incredible Hulk.
But..... Tiberium.
That game will kick ass. (I only have a PS2, so my gaming options are limited.

I would actually like to see more things like this interactive viral campaign come along, in a more evolved way that better satisfies our desire for involvement, progressive challenges, and rewards (beyond the abstract kind we have seen here).
Chaotic Fiction has largely been the realm of ARGs, with their puzzles and very clearly defined realms and playing fields. The wild combination of official sites and accounts on 3rd party sites, the silence of the 'puppetmasters' about it all, the vast landscape to search in hopes of finding the next part of the bigger picture - that's what made this viral campaign so much different than what I see chronicled of past ARGs. We've never been sure what was real and true and not, and that has kept many people's rapt attention.
I hope much has been learned by the people that might want to put on such an adventure again. One thing that's obvious to me is that this campaign's creators and sponsors (the latter being Paramount and Bad Robot) didn't want to risk tying it too closely with the actual content of the film. No matter what the final product is that the viral campaign involves, I think most people would like to see future campaigns play a more integrated role in the final product.
Consider a comparison with Ethan Haas. That campaign was meant to promote something commercial as well, with a much more traditional ARG style - puzzles that lead to secrets, email responses. It failed miserably in it's crashing ending where there was no clear connection and no reward. It looked like what ARG players were used to, but proved to be a very poor medium to promote it's product.
So I hope there's someone else with a campaign where I can sit down with my computer, open a browser, and be ready to participate at an equal level with anyone else. Something where everyone has the same chance to be rewarded. Something where being first isn't always best. I don't know what that something might be, but I'm already keeping my eyes peeled.
