[SPEC] Ai?

Ok, we know that somehow there is an AI involved in this, there are references to computerised things such as

'Stuck inside this silicone crypt' and 'like trying to access on a 50k modem' (or summin like that)

Ok, any of you who have read the books will have read of when Cortana, The Cheif, and a few others took voer a covenant flagship, the 'acendant justice', while on the ship Cortana found her process headed by another entity in the systems with her, a covenant AI, in the end she managed to catch the ai and proceeded to rip the AI code from code, during the process the ai continued to chant 'infidel, infidel' until it produced the message 'AT NON Copy State', cortana continued stripping the ai until she reached the AI's core, here she found the code to be maddingly familiar, she then stored the code from the ai, and proceeded to copy parts of herself into the old AI's pathways to free herself up a bit because she was under imesse pressure and found herself slowed by the immese data from the halo contrust alreayd stored inside her.

This lack of resorces left her slow and unpredictable, ok i have a few theorys.

1. the covenant Ai has somehow survived, because of cortana being slowed, she may have left some of the ai intact, and the covenant AI is hiding, and is getting repaired by this 'surgeon'

2. The other copied half of cortana could well be this surgeon, because she is still slow, and has copied ehrself into the ai's pathways, it verywell could be slowly taking over her.

3. We also know that the ai/monitor from the Halo instiliation escaped, 343 (7x7x7) Guilty Spark escaped from Halo at the end of the game, all we know is that it flew off into space, as for its wherabouts now, is unknown, however the fact that cortana regonised the other ai's core code lead me to believe two things, i. the Ai is based off a captured human AI, or ii. 343 Guilty spark is helping the covenant to create ai's and such, also 343 could have gone to a ship to help the covenant, and it could very well be the acendant justice, the one cortana is in possesion of, 343 could be the surgeon repairing the ai, hiding behind enemy lines abord the very ship that cortana is on, because cortana and the cheif have only secured the bridge, the docking bay, and a route between, there is a hellofa lota ship to hide in.

4. my 4th theory is very far fetched, and it came to me and seige88 on Mirc last night, maybe somehow the flood have got possesion of a ai somehow, converted it their cause, because as we know that they just consume/assilimilate races, this could be a possibility, and that the ai is their leader.

Well thats my two cents, and their probably all wrong, however if u have any queorys abt them, shout =)

Your 4th theory reminds me of a post that thought that the leader of the covenant might be Durandal from the marathon series

Could be =)

Another thought just occoured to me, ok this honey buisness ahs been in operation for 7 years yes?

Ok, smart ais, based of a human brain template have a life of 7 years, in the end little errors build up, and the Ai's litilray think themselfs to death (quote cortana), ok maybe this ai has been in the honey buisness for 7 years, and its comeing to its end of its life now, and on august 24th, may be the day it dies?

And Dana's brain could be the template?

The topic of sand comes up an awful lot during the Mayday texts. The indication that the narrator is made of sand could elude to silicon, what makes computers. The narrator being confused by being made of sand could be because she is a transfer of a person to an AI (Fall of Reach gets into this a little, see background).
There is some talk of wanting to go home, maybe the AI for some reason is rejecting the transfer. Also, could be trapped in a physical way as well. If 'smart' AI's stop being able to think sanely after 7 years then maybe this is the insanity that has beset this particular AI at not being able to be shut off (some of the text from ilovebees stated something about 7 years, if I remember. it's late though, so I'm not finding it).

Alternatively, there is talk of being glassed in the military conversations. This is the 'result' of a huge nuclear weapon being used, the heat being enough to turn the sand and dirt of the earth into a glass field. Maybe the AI is trapped somewhere by this (we're both made of sand). Maybe being trapped there has let the 7 years run by......

Also there was a mention of countdown to China time on the page at some point....weak chance it could be a reference to China Syndrome, a nuclear meltdown so intense it burns through the Earth straight to China. Weak link though.....

covenent absorbing

don't forget that the covenent make their technology by absorbing other's technology, improving it, and using it for their own. With that said, the covenent may be probing either cortana (or similar AI, possibly one named..melissa?) or they could be probing 343, in efforts to create a halo weapon of their own. 343 doesn't seem as likely as a candidate but its possible especially since it is well known he will be in the second one. As far as marathon goes...beats me, I know nothing about the game. considering this is before the launch of halo2, i would assume it would be solely focused on it and not previous games. But once again, i know nothing about marathon and am probably making a fool of myself by saying that.

In the killer.jpg texts, number 11.

Additional Evidence for "China Syndrome" link

Hey, welcome W! It's starting to look like HBO's Night Out here. Smile

Some weak support for your weak link... Dana makes repeatedly references what's happening as a "meltdown" in her email interaction with players.

This IS weak, as "meltdown" has entered into common use for a big and messy failure, but it is a link. I'm tied up researching the parallels with Churchill's Coventry dilemma, and would appreciate it if someone familiar with that novel or film would speak up if they see any other references.

-- Steve's feeling pulled in about a dozen different directions right now... gotta focus...

I jumped ship to these forums when people started trolling with redundant and rampant spec, and especially when Louis (understandably) censored the debate. I'd like to think of this not as HBO's night out, but as Halo fans choosing to be cosmopolitan.

I thought that many people took the use of meltdown as a reference to some Microsoft conference held around the time of Phase 1's completion. What happened to that theory?

Yeah, things got pretty bad over there. (Even worse on bungie.net... Achronos himself came on to apologise that server traffic had maxxed all four of their Xenons more than once.) The emotional response by the fandom is pretty high, especially (no offense, younger members!) with school out. The only way to keep any kind of order is to use pretty draconian moderation... and HBO isn't set up for that. (b.net could be, but they'd need more moderators than se7en.)

Argh! Someone hit me with a wet fish; the pain might make me concentrate. It's here but it's in limbo right now.

-- Steve thinks it's a lead worth pursuing. Like SO MANY OTHERS...
