No Advanced Screenings Yet
Reeves says so.

I was just going through the "Seven Deadly Signs" article written by Reed Tucker and in the interview theirs an interesting passage.

Quote:
The first advance screening will be Tuesday. Reeves says the delay is simply a matter of secrecy.

"J.J. has a history of doing secretive projects," he says. "Back when we were doing 'Felicity,' there was a script that leaked. It was weird. We had the script - then within an hour, there were huge plot reveals up on the Internet. That was the beginning of J.J.'s desperate need to protect. I think he felt that there is also a level at which you don't want to know everything about something before you see it. You want to be surprised.

This article was written yesterday, and Reeves says there hasn't been an advanced screening, and the first will be Tuesday.

Anyone believe this?

For a given value of "no advance screenings", yes. I'm assuming it means "no advance screenings to the general public that were authorized by Paramount", which can still be perfectly true, despite the fact that there are clearly people who have seen the movie (both here and on the internet at large). Harry at AICN has obviously seen the movie, because he wouldn't post a glowing review about it if he hadn't... he has cred to maintain.

I'm going to one tonight in Minneapolis. Will be happy to post a review when I get home!

I can. I started thinking this way about the pre-screenings last night that everything that everyone has supposedly seen has been fixed to look like the real movie. If I know J.J., (Which I claim to only in understanding his thought processes.) he made a couple versions of the film just for this type of secrecy and we have yet to see the true and full version of the movie until this week. (It's what I would do. Laughing ) Even then, I wonder if these new pre-screenings they are talking about are the real thing either.

That's true. I guess I was just very excited to discredit all of the reviews I've read about the movie that leave me either wanting more, or dissatisfied.

Oh well, I'm still eager to see it, just hoping against hope.

I've been to pre screenings before and they are the full film with nothing added nor missing. It's likely the same print that the theater will use this weekend, just shipped out early so the theater can run the preview. The only difference I can tell is that the preview is the same week as release, which is VERY rare. My guess is they wanted to build hype early enough without letting too many spoilers weeks before release. I seen previews as early as a month before release for dramas... I'm really surprised they are even previewing it at all actually! But when we all come into work next day OMG'ing all over the office... it gives some added word of mouth for a huge opening weekend.

I think what he's refering to is no PRESS previews... which happen weeks before release.

Erm, this isn't true, considering I went to an advanced screening on the 10th.

Unless the one I went to was illegal or something... Shocked

If Matt Reeves' says there's been no Advanced screenings yet, and there won't be till Tuesday...

Oil....please for the love of god, did you actually see the film?

There was a moment about 3 days ago where HONEY was on, then went off...then came back on about an hour later and was like, "I just got back from work...I can answer any questions now.".....that's been stuck in my head as well. There's really only about 4-5 people who say the monster is what you say it is.....so it's possible that you all came up with some kind of plan way before this, to fool people.....or you all are the SAME person.

Eh, I still think it's true....but please, if you haven't and lied....just say so, so we can't start thinking again..... heh

Never again will JJ have to perform damage control, especially on something the caliber of a leaked script.

It could be a kiss of death.

Especially for something like FELICITY~!

Well depending upon audience reaction at "Studio Authorized Advanced Screenings" changes are made. I'm a big starwars fan and the one example I always refer to is the ending of Return of the Jedi. As originally shot Lando dies and the Millennium Falcon is destoryed (they didn't make it out of the Death Star 2). Audience reaction was so poor they did a minor reshoot and did a new special effect of the MF flying out of the Death Star blowing up.

This may be so, but that may have been a "test screening." In an "advance screening" such as this week's events... They don't ask you what you think of the movie at all. no comment cards or question form. You are simply honored to see the film first to help generate buzz so the opening box office is bigger. It is WAY too close to release for them to be changing anything. This is about the time of the week when prints are shipped out to theaters. Meaning the movie is done and the version seen by people this weekend is the same print as those of us who are going to advance screenings.

The anticipation is driving you nuts isn't it? Just think of it this way, if they are pulling our collective legs then you will be even more shocked when you see the movie on Friday. I too have often wondered if they were in cahoots with one another about screening the film. It would make for a funny joke. Oli has been around for a while I do not think he would not do that to us.

Maybe Oil and the others who have seen it were hired by Paramount/whoever to generate buzz and give out fake spoilers and such, including a fake description of the monster?
That would be fucking insane if true, because then we would all go to the movie and see a different monster, maybe the monster fan art now is the first draft of the monster? I dunno...

If true. Genius. Absolutely genius.
