Our Voting Reasons

Upon request, I am putting up the reasons for my vote that I sent. But mine is only the first, I want to see what everyone else sent too! I'm curious, and I'd love to see what anyone's comfortable posting up.

---------------

I am voting for Mouse.

My reasons for this are that I am specifically doing my best to address the issue that this decision is intended to shape the Deck to come and therefore the road that Silverladder takes. I did my best to seriously consider each candidate, despite any initial feelings I might have had in first viewing their campaign page. I believe that Mouse not only synchronizes with what we already have, but has the potential to expand where we are going. I was impressed with his passion for the journey and feel that he would treat the experience properly. His view of it all coincides with my own, and he certainly appears to have a much deeper understanding of what we have achieved than the other potential candidates do. He seems to be the perfect mix of love and art that I am seeking in a guide.

My second favourite for Four of Diamonds was Dodo, because he seems like a lot of fun - especially in comparison to Lory and Duck. Instead of being intent on changing us, he seemed happy to let us have some flexibility. However, he also blatantly spoke about things being all fun, with nothing serious. It could perhaps have been seen as mildly insulting that he saw the Passengers as currently that way, when I know that we certainly work hard at cracking whatever puzzles the current revealed card has to offer us, as well as always delving deeper into the art presented to us. I never got the feel that he meant it in that way though, and I'm willing to believe that he has simply not seen us in our proper light to know our deeper side.

Even pushing that aside, it didn't change the fact that this was the very thing he was promoting - all fun and no work. While it is without a doubt that I enjoy the fun, lighthearted nature that Silverladder often provides, I personally enjoy some learning and work to be involved as well. I don't just want to goof off and party all the time; I want to immerse myself in what Silverladder is showing us in able to grow as a person and to expand my knowledge. I'm looking for a solid, healthy balance of fun AND learning.

Therefore, in the end, while I would absolutely love to hang out with Dodo as a friend and think he'd be a nice addition to the Deck if that were all this decision addressed; I couldn't bring myself to choose him and turn the Deck into something potentially shallow.

In third place was Lory. While I could respect his obvious belief in art and the truth paired with it, I was put off by his stingy ways. He acts as though he wants everyone and everything within Silverladder to begin fitting into neat little roles between straight lines. I believe he fails to think about the fact that the Passengers shape much of this journey as well, and if they're carrying it in a certain direction, who is to say it is the wrong direction?

Up until now, the idea that the Deck and the Passengers grow and learn from one another in a back and forth experience has seemed a rather important part of Silverladder. While I wouldn't expect this to always happen, I like to see a Deck member at least open to the concept. Lory doesn't appear to plan on learning from us, be open to changing, or approve of anyone else in the Deck doing differently. I believe that he sees Silverladder as a lesson to be taught to the Passengers, rather than a journey that we're all taking together.

Perhaps, if this were purely about who would be best for Four of Diamonds, representing art and not affecting the outcome of the Deck, I would have voted for Lory. I think both he and Dodo would have presented a good balance to what we already have, even if in opposite directions.

Finally, in last place was Duck. He was the very embodiment of a corrupt politician. He appears to not care about the Passengers, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to reach the top. I wouldn't put it past him to sacrifice Passengers, art, love - any of the things that are deeply ingrained within Silverladder. We need someone with at least the most basic of morals, not just doing anything he wishes for an end result.

We already know that he contradicts himself. He claims that his past is an open book, but then when we are presented with the candidates' records, his are the only to be scratched out beyond readability. He also wants to turn Silverladder into some sort of profit machine, when I think the very point of it is that it is non-profit. Silverladder is about art. I wouldn't slap an advertisement for Rogaine across a sculpture or something. It takes away from the art. I feel that the situation is identical.

Blue, you're awesome. ♥

Well, here's my nonsensical bit:

My vote goes to Lory. I'd like to think I'm making a decision that will benefit the Passengers the most, but I'm having a bit of a time convincing myself that's true. I wouldn't mind some added structure to SL (not that I think it really needs it), but I think Lory could use a helping of chaos. Information, art, love and chaos are all shades and tints of the same hue. None is more valuable than the other, none are without a piece of another. He seems so sure that there really isn't anything for the Deck to get out of the SL experience, but I don't think that's true at all. The wise man knows he knows nothing. We never stop learning. There is so much us Passengers have done and learned from each other because of Silverladder that have made us better people and it's such a wonderful thing, I'd hate to think a Card will leave this journey without a piece of that. Isn't that part of art? It's a great success when art can make someone think - it's miraculous when art can change a person, even in the slightest way.
People are naturally defensive when they feel that their ideals are being threatened. I know some of the Passengers harbor strong feelings toward Lory and Duck for their ideas about changing Silverladder. Most Passengers feel so comfortable and safe on the little cruise that SL has been so far, but I think they could learn a thing or two from a little turbulence. Every part of reality and life is essential; the blissful highs, distressing lows, and the uncertainty and anticipation of not knowing what will come next. Take it in stride or fall behind. Eyes wide. Senses sharpened. Pay attention.

I may be being too hopeful and a bit of a romantic, and I can't even be certain that either party would benefit from Lory being added as a guide, but I also can't shake the feeling that it's simply right. The Passengers I'm in contact with the most seem to be the most comfortable with Mouse, so it seems they've decided what is best for themselves. I find Mouse quite charming, and he seems to get the idea quite well, but I don't either of us can benefit from each other very much at all. No doubt we could still part from each other with some sort of better understanding, but I don't see it being as dramatic as the changes I see possible with Lory. Mouse is a safe vote, but safe isn't going to get us very far. Duck intrigues me with his mystery and strange charm, and I'd even like to get to know him better had I the chance, but I'm not willing to put the rest of the Passenger at risk for the sake of my curiosity. Sorry, Duck. Maybe in another story. Smile Dodo seems to lack the necessary structure of a guide. I have no problem with that, but it seems dangerous to put the Passengers in the hands of someone so without direction. I'd also like to get to know Dodo better (though he seems to be the "what you see is what you get" type), but not as a Passenger under his care.

Truthfully, I'd like to see them all have a whack at it, somehow (though that's really only out of curiosity).

My vote for the Dodo
Dodo Vote!

I chose the dodo because I felt that I identify with him. He seems like a fun-loving take it as it comes, anything goes type guy. His campaign motto "Anything Goes" is the exact attitude i had come into this with, as it says on the info I sent you all via the communications link on Silverladder. He even likes the same music as me, considering his campaign song is "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" parts 1-4 which is an amazing song. I feel that he even has a sort of chaotic touch to him, and that is one of my favorite parts of this journey...THE CHAOS. Everything about him just felt right.

On the other hand I didn't choose the Lory because he was to little fun. He seemed almost boring, dull, and bland. I was also turned off by the fact that he said that Jonah was a liability. I know it is his and a few other's views, but I happen to think Jonah great. He is awesomeness incarnate, and the last thing I wanted to hear was a Jonah put down.

I didn't choose the Duck because I don't like that his criminal record was blacked out. On his last question he says he has nothing to hide yet he is lying about that because he is obviously hiding his record. If he will hide his record from us and lie about it, then what else will he lie to us about. It also seemed that the Duck might even be Korporation, which worried me enough to affect my vote.

I would be lying if I said I didn't want to choose the Mouse. I definitely did want to chose him/her except that the Dodo was my absolute first choice because of my perceived identification with him. The Mouse was a very qualified and good choice, and I wouldn't be surprised if he/she got the spot as the 4 of Diamonds, but I couldn't betray the Dodo.

Sincerely,
Mrpink6988 (Ryan)

My Vote for Mouse
as requested..

Azure, you're wonderful! <3
Congratulations to all those selected!
------------------------------

I am voting for Mouse. I think Mouse can bring alot to the
Silverladder experience and would make a fantastic Four of Diamonds
and guide. She/he embodies all that brought me to Silverladder and
what has kept me here. I believe in her/his ideas of what Silverladder
is and what it can be. I like her/his balance. I feel she/he can
bring structure with flexibility for change if change is what is
required. I like her/his ideas on interactivity and that no one suit
is better than another. All are important. I feel all are needed for
a balanced experience, for a balanced life. Mouse seems to think the
Passengers are just as important as the Deck, and I like that. I feel
I can learn from Mouse. Mouse inspires trust in me. While there must
be a beginning and an end, and a goal is important, I believe the
journey to be more important than the destination. I believe Mouse
understands that and embraces it. To borrow a phrase from Duck, it
is Mouse that makes the sale for me.

Lory: I value structure, logic, and honesty, but Lory is too rigid.
There's no warmth, no leeway. Art is important and it means different
things to different people. But as I stated before, I believe you
need ALL four elements for balance. With an understanding of each,
they help you appreciate the other. They compliment one another. And
there's something about the absolute way Lory seems to think of the
Deck as teachers and us merely students. I want to learn new things
and experience new things, but if I wanted a class for the rest of the
year, I'd take one. And I am concerned that Lory seems to think the
Passengers have little if anything to offer. I just don't think Lory's
approach is balanced enough. And I also have to say, I'm not thrilled
with Lory's thoughts on Jonah. But like us, Lory is entitled to
his/her opinion, and I respect that. Smile

Duck: Duck kind of scares me. The emphasis Duck puts on money turns
me off. Value can be found in all sorts of things, and those things I
value more than money. I feel Silverladder is just fine the way it is
and whatever changes could be made, it certainly doesn't need a total
overhaul. I find something creepy about the way Duck says he keeps
track of and studies the Passengers. We aren't lab rats. We are not
cattle to be led. Duck reminds me of the Korporation and I just don't
feel I can trust him/her. I could be wrong, and Duck could be a great
person once you get to know them, but I am not willing to take that
risk with the remainder of the journey. Silverladder means too much to
me.

Dodo: I find Dodo incredibly entertaining. I bet he/she is great to
hang out with and I hope to someday meet them. I think Dodo is an
interesting individual. The total abandonment of structure is fun in
moderation, but I feel I could not deal with it for the remainder of
the journey. Dodo is not focused or balanced enough, in my opinion to
represent the Deck or set the tone for Silverladder.

Mouse Of Hearts
My e-mail which earned an honorable mention

This is my e-mail in it's entirety.
Quote:

Mouse.

1 Corinthians 13:
1 If I speak in human or angelic tongues, [a] but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body [to hardship] that I may boast, [b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Explanation:
I liked the comparison about the four candidates mirroring the four qualities of the deck. And Mouse mirrors love.

Oh lordy, itsanothervote!
In which KH gets all touchy feely.

Condradulations to all the winners. Back in my day when we voted, we would be lucky if we got a sticker. Or a war.

As per formal voting regulations, I am formally casting one (read: 1)
formal vote, for Mouse.

Allow me to explain.

In the past weeks, I?ve experienced a number of strange things: from
chaotic poetry to obscure card related mascots, from hard memories to
bright futures. We passengers are a wild bunch, varying in beliefs, creed,
intelligence, good looks, and personalities. If we were to walk into a
crowded room, it would be safe bet that we would all think one a tad odd,
or in my case, really odd. However, through this journey, there has been a
middle road that we all share, and thanks to this road we have bonded
together into the mass of friends that you see before you today. These is
a road of progress good sirs, and while this road braches off from one
suit to the next every week, it always heads in the same direction:
forward.

In my opinion, Mouse is the best candidate that represents this message of
community as a whole. If we lacked this middle road, it would not be hard
to envision the passengers divided into the four separate suits, and from
our small cults communicating only to those who share our common
interests. In fact, when I first joined Silverladder, I thought that was
the prospect, and that it was going to be a dog eat dog contest, letting
the best suit rise victorious. Thank god I was wrong. Thanks to the warm
sense of unity as a whole, with no small part of the help coming from the
guides we have chosen, we stand strong.

However, this also poses a problem. At the moment, the only points where
we are being divided are the points that hinge our very future in this
journey. When we are forced to choose new guides, as we?ve seen in the
past, troubles arise. If we were to choose the extremes on this political
scale, we could every well alienate those who would have chosen
differently. The last thing I want for this journey is a division of the
passengers, and that is why I?m choosing Mouse as our next guide. He seems
to be a resounding force, keeping he road on which we stand on the
straight and narrow.

That?s not to say that the other candidates were poor choices. However, in
my opinion they were just not the sort of guidance that we require at the
moment. Dodo, while incredibly fun loving and kind, would stray this
group of people form our goal with relaxation and fun. Besides, we?re
fairly lax to begin with. Lory, on the other hand, seems too radical for
what we?re experiencing at the moment. In the future, we made need a
reality check ala Lory, but at this moment in the journey, it doesn?t seem
to be where we need to go.
As for duck, well, let?s just say he?s too corporately minded for my
tastes.

As such, I reiterate. I am casting my vote for Mouse. We need a middle
ground to stand on, and he seems to be the one that will allow us to
remain together, as a whole.

I am voting for Duck.

This might come as a surprise. I know full well just how Korp he is. I
want something more interesting out of this. I'm hoping that having Duck
around will give us a bad guy. Things have been going too smoothly lately
and it's sort of boring me.

Not to mention that the pool of tears placed the ACES as the bad guys. I
don't want that. You don't want that. No one wants that. The Korp is the
bad guy.

Sometimes the bad guys have to infiltrate the good guys and sabotage them
for the story to move forward.

So, there we go. I vote Duck.

I am not voting for Mouse because she is wishy-washy and too much the
personification of all this. If we wanted someone who truly represented
every aspect of SL, we wouldn't need 52 cards. I want seperate
personalities that both represent what SL is, and what it is not, at the
same time.

I did not vote for Lory because we already have one Dom thank you very much!

And I did not vote for Dodo because, even though he is awesome, he seems
too laid back and uhhh... I have enough people like Philip in my life.
Like, Philip, for example. ;D

They are honorary titles, really. We're still full on Passengers. :]
Unfortunately I can't be COMPLETELY sure about Azure.
They say she will be a Passenger for the most part, but they don't know how much of a card she will or will not be in the future.

Congrats to those who won! You deserve it. I suck at explaining things. I would post my explanation here but I didn't save it. :/

But my main reasons:

Mouse. He is the best fit with the current 'shape' of SL and the passengers. He has the potential to extend this into something more than it is right now. If we choose someone we can talk to and agree with, we can more easily shape our journey.[/quote]
