Let's file a class action lawsuit against Paramount for false/misleading advertising. That'll teach 'em to waste your time!

I think it is quite likely that the marketing was never well coordinated. I can also see them thinking that if images on the 1-18-08 site had a different date on them - that would just confuse everyone who went to the site. Not everyone who went to that site was following the online promotion. The whole point of that META site was to drive home the release date and, then later, I guess, it was used to try to communicate with people about the online promotion.

I think they put certain pictures there as a way to make sure people knew that things were "in-game" as opposed to the countless gamejacks that happened. Not an elegant design, but they worked with what they had.

So, anyway, if they had pictures on 1-18-08 with different dates on them - wouldn't that have confused the average person who went to the site? Wouldn't such a person be likely to say "so does this movie open on 1-18-08 or on [whatever other date is on the image]?"

They could be screen caps from a video camera (my husband's video camera takes still pictures). Maybe the camera had the wrong date set in the memory.
Yeah, I know, grasping a straws. I'm with Rose on this one. Marketing was not communicating with Producers. Too much secrecy. Actors don't know about the online promotion. Too much secrecy. Net result is inconsistency between movie and MySpace information. And disappointed internet fans (while mixed reviews from those seeing the film without knowing all the backstory stuff uF members have learned).

Oh, and lots of buzz generated before the movies released. And quite a nice amount of swag sales from Slusho.jp (probably paid for the websites and staff writing the MySpace stuff). So the marketing team get's props for efforts and cost coverage. I wonder how much they actually sold.
