First off , the NY Post is so full of shit on a daily basis that this proves that the movie will do good. Movie reviewers are nothing more than a bunch of elitist assholes. My local reviewer will never give a movie more than three stars unless its some artsy foreign movie or a movie about homosexuals. So to the NY Compost i give one big F*ck You, and that goes for all the other elitist assholes out there. May Mr. Grumpypants pay you a personal visit one day and take a big monster size crap on you. Thank you and have a nice day Rolling Eyes

EDIT. I sent the reviewer a reply pretty much saying the same thing i said here

Because BWP was a failure?

Rolling Eyes

Just looking at what movies suceed at the box office, I'd like to think that a movie featuring a giant monster destroying New York would make some bucks. Even if it blows(ala Godzilla)

very similar. Small budget, no stars, little known director...

and it blew the box office away.

And it was released on March 9, 2007 (in USA)....not exactly a month for blockbusters.

Honestly, thank god. I am a long time member of this place, though I rarely post here as I prefer to lurk. When this whole business began with Ethan Haas, I was sure people were reaching and I wasnt afraid to voice the opinion about that. I will be absolutely overjoyed in 6 months when this thread is dead and archived. People are seeking the littlest tiniest details that arent really there, or dont really mean anything and focusing entire threads on them. I couldnt agree more with you Helo, and for the record I am one of the mega-nerd types who loves the hidden puzzles and bits. I am, however, aware enough to know when there is a puzzle and when a bit of fuzz is just a bit of fuzz. Slusho is not part of this movie, and yes I too would laugh my way back to the box office to ask for my money back if Slusho turned someone/something into a monster. I just thought I wanted to post to tell you that you are not alone in your opinion about how overblown this stuff is.

Hmm, It's interesting how one with an account here, and has a good number of post, can be so insulting to everyone else. It's also interesting how those who have a problem with what he said, did exactly what he said they would do.

I wish to say that the interent is a great tool for people of kinds to gather together to voice opinions, meet, argue, fall in love, make new friends, and learn about new things. But lets no name call, bash each other, insult, degrade and belittle. Please lets all just get along and grow up and move past this petty name calling. Much love y'all.

The review is dead-on, and if you're not an UnFiction nerd/geek, then the so-called "hype" surrounding the film is virtually unheard of.

To most normal people, it's just a cool trailer for what will hopefully be a cool movie.

To the UnFiction nerds and geeks, it's turned into a lifestyle. It's almost like this forum is a gathering for the throwaways of the nerd lifestyle.

Have you heard what a fit of nerd rage you guys throw when you heard that some of your obsessions might not be in the movie? And these are really dumb things too, such as:

- The date. The release date was 1-18-08. No where did it ever say that it was going to happen on 1-18-08. You guys just found some pictures and got your tighty-whities in a bunch.
- Slusho. I hate to tell you this, but the name is stupid, and Abrams sticks it in his movies just for fun. Slusho isn't mentioned, and it won't be. If a movie revolved around someone turning into a monster because they drank "Slusho," then the movie deserves to die a flaming death. Seriously, Slusho? Drinking something and then turning into a monster?
- SBN... or "Sea Bed Nectar." Once again, put down the video game controller and listen to your dumb asses.
- DSI... or "Deep Sea Ingredients." If I told someone about this and said that a really cool monster movie was being made based on the above, they would ask me how the fourth period in seventh grade is going. Those things might be cool to you guys, but you're the small minority, not the majority.

The fact is, a lot of this stupid stuff sounds cool to you guys because you're nerds and geeks who enjoy the Japanese style RPG's that no one cares about. But for a real movie that needs to make money and appeal to the rest of us, it's stupid. I jumped off this board when they started talking about that crap, but now your turbo-nerds are throwing a fit because it's not going to be in the movie.

Get a grip. The stuff that you're into in your moms basement doesn't make money, and it makes for really crappy movie ideas.

I think I hear Euchre putting down the cake frosting and stepping off his moms couch to give me a cyber tongue lashing. Bring it on, shitbag.

So you being a Firefighter you must be a good ole boy, peckerwood with the I.Q. of a bag of hair and who rarely bathes? Stereotypes are fun huh?

Seriously, I own my own home (no basement for me) and work as Marketing director for one of the largest companies in Texas. I personally find the inevitable (still praying) lack of connection between the ARE and the movie disheartening. I think a number of us just feel cheated. Normally in a Viral marketing campaign there is some sort of warm fuzzy feeling that validates all of our time spent on it at the end. In this case, that promised warm fuzzy feeling is slowly being replaced by a sense of dread. Dread from realization that the entire campaign has been pointless, albeit entertaining, but still pointless. I hope for all of our sakes that there is still a pay off coming. I think the sinking of Chuai station was good, but not what we expected. I think until the Big Payoff comes we have a right to be anxious and a little worried. Opening day is approaching fast and the best we have is Jamie destroying a stuffed animal. If I spent the past months following this to watch someone deadpan a camera while cutting up a teddy bear I won't see the movie. That is poor marketing and an insult to Cloverfield's fanbase (AKA us here at Uf and the few other sites [yes IMDB *shudder* included Wink ]), who subsequently are the BIGGEST advertising source for this movie. All of OUR hours of digging and searching and piecing together what sparse clues there were put Cloverfield on the map more than the untitled trailer that started this ever could.

Re: PUBLIC MESSAGE TO COLE

First of all, I posted a warning several months ago not to get involved with 1-18-08, because it was from J. J. Abrams, and because I had learned from the time I wasted with The Lost Experience that anything J. J. Abrams comes up with is going to be, well, a waste of time.

Secondly,

It's been mentioned many times before, and I'm purposefully doing this publically (instead of in one of the many PMs you've been sent before about your demeanor in here): You are a GUEST in this house. Our TOS is simple. Be considerate in your posting or you will be asked to leave.

Thank you.

I find it interesting that you chastised Cole for "insulting language," yet failed to remove the insulting language from two posts earlier in this thread made by Random_kid and Helo.

Just because things dont live up to "your" expectations doesnt mean JJ is a fraud or anything. Its your opinion and your opinion alone. I must say ive enjoyed my time on here and i think its because i came into this with no expectations. If u do so , than u cant be let down in the end. Problem is, people make assumptions about things. Going into something secretive , you have no idea what to expect, so dont expect. Instead, enter with an open mind and just whatever happens , happens. If you dont enjoy what your into, than walk away from it. My point in all of this mindless blather im spouting is , if you dont like something from someone, that doesnt mean they suck or whatever, it just means you didnt like it

Is it possible that we could try to stay on the topic here, please? I'm interested in this topic because so far it is the only negative press I've read about this film. As mentioned, it isn't even a review, just a bunch of conjecture based on certain "facts" about the film.

If we want to discuss moderating of the forum, maybe that should be its own topic. Wink

To me, the real test is this weekend. That will show us if word of mouth was good or bad enough to keep the momentum going.

If it's a major hit (or #1 this weekend) the press will go crazy, saying it's a phenomenon.

If it's a major flop it'll be branded as nothing but hype.

All eyes on BoxOfficeMojo!
