I'm in & the first mission is tomorrow after the show!

I especially like the way the site says that "There are no real jobs available as Torchwood is fictional. We apologise if you thought this was the case."

Kind of spoils the TINAG aspect, eh?

I was able to register without problems(firefox) though using the web proxy kinda messes up the page, and yeah, theres a part in the registration that the page loads complete with the images. I wish they wouldn't torture us and remove the non-uk restriction, but I guess, its part of the fun eh? Wink

Can you non-UK guys see the intro vid from Ianto? If not will copy it across to my blog and linky. They supply the code to embed so they obviously want it to spread.

[Edit] OK - here's my blog, I never kept it up to date during PXC, since then I've sporadically posted pictures of pasties. Perhaps its purpose all along was to stick up vids?

Bit of an update, now when I login to Torchwood I can access a row of tabs for Jack, Owen, Gwen, Ianto and Toshiko across the top, which seem to give access to their inboxes, all of which have e-mails. Clicking on them, the message space below gives me a loading message, but nothing further.

In order (as displayed) dates and headers of mails are:

Jack
Harper, Owen Re:Wedding 16/01/08
Cooper, Gwen Wedding 16/01/08
adminSPLATtorchwood.org.uk Auto spam filter message 12/01/08

Owen
Jones, Ianto Re:Out of office Rant 16/01/08

Toshiko
Cooper, Gwen Re:Wedding 16/01/08
Harper, Owen Re:Wedding 16/01/08
Cooper, Gwen Wedding 16/01/08

[Edit] From which I can glean:

Jack is away, Owen and Ianto share a rant about this, perhaps he is away unexpectedly?

Gwen is getting married, Owen congratulates with a reply to all message, I like the fact that Toshiko and Gwen go on to have a slightly more detailed conversation Smile Little details Smile

Gwen has been to the Himalayas? Is going to the Himalayas? Is that what the Tourist board e-mail to her from Ianto was about or something completely different.

We have an e-mail address for the admin at Torchwood. I wonder whether the famous five's addresses will work in the same way...?

Do I need to spoiler any of this at all, are you capable of viewing Torchwood stateside at the same time as UK? It's on at 9pm Wednesdays GMT.

Well, based on the last episodes of Torchwood and Doctor Who:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At the end of 'The End of Days', Jack ran off without warning to the TARDIS when The Doctor & Martha stopped at Cardiff to refuel. When they all return after 'Utopia,' they find out that The Master has sent the remaining Torchwood members on a off on a "wild goose chase" in the Himalayas. Presumably, Jack returns to Torchwood not too long after he gets back on Earth (since the events of 'The Last of the Time Lords' get reversed) but it's hard to say how much time has passed from 'The End of Days' to 'The Sound of Drums', thus how much time Jack has been missing from Torchwood.

Torchwood series/season 2 is starting its run on Saturday, January 26th on BBC America. Much better than the waiting time during the first run, but still behind the UK. And of course, there are alternative ways of watching it in the US on Wednesday nights.

But if you do spoil tag based on the US not watching, if the missions have to do with the just aired episode, it seems like all the conversation in this thread would have to spoiled, which seems like overkill. Better for us US peeps not to read through the thread until we've seen the episode in question.

I don't know about any other Canadians, but I find it odd that we are treated as second-class to everyone else when it comes to Doctor Who and related stuff. The US gets it and Torchwood and stuff before we do, the UK blocks out the Torchwood story.

The reason this irks me is in the credits of the shows... the CBC IS A CO-PRODUCER. Why do they ignore the property they're spending money on, and why is the Beeb refusing us access to online content?

Grrr, this whole age of national internet rights is real suckage.

Gotta love the beeb. Disclaimers big and loud and everywhere. Sooner or later they're going to have to put a disclaimer at the end of the show that no Weevils were harmed in the making of the programme and Cardiff may not actually be as exciting as it's made to seem*.

*Disclaimer: This does not represent the views of all pineapples the world over. I've never been to Cardiff and so am guessing.

Ok well, I live in the UK and have just signed up, so if anyone wants me to post anything here they need just say so.

As of now I've noticed you get 6 sections for messages 5 for the team (Jack, Owen, Gwen, Ianto and Toshiko) and one for yourself.

When you try clicking any of the other names it says [an error occurred while processing this directive] But you can clearly see the headings for that particular team members emails; although when you click to read them it sticks on "loading" - Perhaps we have to wait until 22:00hrs GMT before being able to read them?

Edit: Ok looks like MikeyJ got there before me lol...

Mikey how were you able to read the emails? I'm still stuck on loading...

Wasn't able to read mails, I got nothing more than the loading message too (otherwise I would have transcribed them too Wink ). I presume that will be something that we get when things go live tonight along with the mission?

Cardiff's quite nice, I went for a meeting in the museum, but have only been the once. Whatever you do avoid the travelodge in the town centre. It's built on top of a massive club that's open until about 6am. It's not conducive to a good night's sleep!

[EDIT] Now I think I see what you mean. Checking today, the tabs with the teams names on are no longer available, I think that was an accident, I can no longer see the titles of the mails. Which explains why some of them were in future Rolling Eyes I would have noticed that had I ever got a clue what date it is.

Just wondering but could someone from the UK send me the video we're supposed to embed? I'd like to see it and it isn't working for me. Uploading it to TubeYou would be great too.

This is a lot easier said than done. It appears that the BBC really does not want us on the other side of the pond viewing this stuff.

First, the embedded video calls up a .swf file which is in the 'protected' ARG directory, so you can't link to it directly.

Second, the .swf only seems to want to work if its in the embedded state, so even if you have a proxy that will let you link directly to the swf you get some message saying that the video is no longer available. But at least now you should be able to download the file to look at it closer.

Third, the .swf file itself has an IP check built in, so you cant just save a local copy and hope to open it via a browser or a flash decompiler and see the video.

Fourth, the video is separate from the .swf file, and the callout to it is pretty well hidden - at least I can't find out where it is, but that could just be because I suck at flash and I'm sick. I can see a bunch of calls to xml files, but even opening those I can't figure out where the actual video is coming from. Sad

All that being said, I did make a video of it using my digital camera - not the best quality, but probably better than nothing at this point. I will try to upload it when I get home from work (I have to make sure the sound is okay since I just reviewed the video part). I'll also try to upload the stupid flash file in case someone else wants to pull it apart and see if they can find something more useful.

Happily, the second part of the Saxon three-parter that ended the last season of Dr Who has just been on BBC3 and a throwaway comment by The Master mentioned that he'd sent Jack's merry band off to the Himalayas on a wild goose chase. Got to love those continuity guys. How satisfying Smile

Alright so I've just logged on and here is the mission brief:

Quote:
MISSION BRIEF
BACKGROUND
Genetics professor Conrad Fischer has gone missing. Last night he called in to a paranormal radio show called Dark Talk and claimed he was being hunted by aliens.

MISSION
We want to know the last person to see Conrad. Check out the case files and listen to his call to Dark Talk.

OBJECTIVE
When you come up with a name, enter it in the box on the right. This mission must be completed by 21:00 on 23/01/08.

Now... Checking everyone elses email fields I believe we can only view the latest email on everyone's list the rest just stick to loading so I'll put what I can find here:

Methinks the lady doth protest too much. Are you trying to tell us you don't want us to come?

While I'm doing that, would you also like me to set up your e-mail so that it automatically puts the word 'please' into your messages? As the effort of doing it yourself seems to be beyond you.

No, no, it's not like that... sorry, I just wanted to say that if you'd find it awkward then I don't mind. Though actually I think it's me who's worried about it being awkward. Sorry. I'd love to have you there.

Gwen
