opinions please?

Yeah, we discussed that when it came to light there was a nuke strike. The camera SHOULDN'T survive, but since there's a movie, it obviously DOES.

I dunno. Does a small, tactical nuke produce the same kind of EMP that one of the planet busting ones does? If they DO nuke NY, I'm sure they would use a Tac Nuke, to minimize the distruction and fallout.

Nutron Bomb, Nutron Bomb, Nutron Bomb!!!! Yyaaaa!!!!! (Like a chearleader)

A tactical nuke would produce a limited EM burst...of course, it all depends on how far away the camera is. With a groundburst, however, I think the shock- and heat-fronts would extend further out than the EMP.
It's also possible that they use a fusion bomb, which give off very little radiation. Although, dropping an H-bomb on the thing would be the very definition of over-kill.

And, btw, to sami_kaye, a magnetic force will not erase the data on a CD or DVD, because they use physical grooves engraved in thier surface.

A Nutron bomb destroys all living matter and leaves all non living matter intact....(we have this technology...it is no secret.)

It doesn't exactly leave *all* non-living matter intact...just more than typical nuclear weapons.

I'm not entirely convinced that a "big hammer" equals Nuke.

But I guess I'll have to see the movie to be sure. That said, it's certainly implied that MPG survives to be attacked in the ocean

Ohhh...!!! Still, no one in the military would use the phrase "Big Hammer" Gay,Gay,Gay....ggggg...Gay...But...if the monster resembles the monkey with the flag in the Slusho commercial, and the "big hammer" destroys the "monkey" what does the "cheese" mean?

You know...Say "Cheese!" for the camera. Laughing I have had that joke since day one of the Slusho site.

Not to break up the fun with facts 'n stuff, but here it goes, lol

If a neutron bomb was dropped on MGP...
For a typical neutron bomb yield of 1Kt, the fireball would reach out 0.055 miles (just 290 ft), the damaging region of the shockfront (out to 5 psi) would reach out to 0.267 miles, and (most importantly) the immediate radiation exposure would reach out to 0.610 miles.
The camera is protected by concrete and stuff, so it's very possible that it could be somewhat within 0.61 miles and still come out of the blast undamaged.
So, a neutron bomb is reasonable. It's what I'd drop on it if all others options were gone.

As I read and think about it......it makes sense that they do not use a nuke. It is a heavily populated area the military would not want to make uninhabitable(or would they?!?!?! Shocked ) So mabye a large scale bombing of the area: by late that night they know MGP is just hanging on the island kicking ass and they have most of the area evacuated(acceptable losses) so they unleash artiley or big stuff on the island. There is also that big bomb they where using at the start of the iraq war...I can't remeber the actual name but I do remeber it was the largest no nuclear bomb we have and it flatten a rather large area. somthing blossum? (NO not death blossum)

There's one mother of a bomb called MOAB (as in, Mother Of All Bombs, lol - actually, it's Massive Ordnance Air Burst, but that's just not cool)...as far as I know, that's currently the largest American non-nuclear explosive device. There's a Russian one, which is the largest in the world - I think it's called FOAB (for Father Of All Bombs), but I'm not sure...it doesn't matter, anyway - but, for some strange reason, I doubt that the US would call in help from the Russians.

MOAB was designed for use as a psychological deterrant in Iraq. It has a yield of about 10 tons, enough to destroy MGP and then some, but far from the destruction that would be caused by even a "small" neutron bomb.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's Operation "Hammerdown" not "Big Hammer"
