I have seen the movie, but for your minds sake block me out for a second. There are still many many other reviewers who have seen the movie and reported that you see the monster. Maybe you just have terrible eyes.

Like when he kills Hud? The big pay off????? That was fucking crap. That was the best they could do???? Fuck that, keep sucking this movies dick. They never "SHOW" the monster.

HOLY CRAP, BRO! SPOILER WARNINGS, YOU DOUCHEBAG! Dang.

He wasn't, you see the monster plenty.

Yeah I've gathered that from every review I've read. Not quite sure whats up with this story.

Klind, let me paint a picture for you. You remember stop-motion anamation, like the original King Kong circa '40's? Ok you see some tail swinging around, you see kind of arm thing, then Hud get's killed, like in the mouth. But IT'S FUCKING SO UP CLOSE YOU DON"T SEE SHIT! They give you like 1 second of the monster breathing, face view. It's a fucking hose job.

Are you talking about how they never show the monster in full? Because it's blantly obvious that they show the monster.

Dou you work for these fuckin guys? Or are just that much of a fanboy?

I've seen the movie, idiot. While you don't get a completely full shot of the monster, you get plenty of shots of every part of his body. There are even 1 or 2 almost completely full shots.

With the movie coming out tonight, I wouldn't even come on this board if you don't want to be spoilered. I've seen several spoilers in thread titles already.

I've been prowling around tonight, because i expected reviews to start hitting about 9-10 o'clock.

On several different sites, people are posting reviews, and it's all about the same as nofx's here.

They say you barely see the monster, only one QUICK shot of the whole thing, the rest is flashes, and pieces of it's body.

It's been described as:

The Rancor/bat/monkey thing from the thread on this site.

A cross between Pumpkinhead and Predator

A "stocky" Alien with gills

Like a dinosaur

Like a big lizard monkey

No one gives a good clear discription of the thing, and they all say the most disappointing thing about the movie is

Rob/Beth backstory

No explanation at all of where the thing comes from

No good looks at the monster

And, no reason why the movie is called "Cloverfield".

Nobody can give a clear discription, because MAYBE we don't ever get to see it. Maybe everyone should wait till they see the movie befor jumping this guy's ass. He might be telling the truth, and after 6 months following this thing, and that's what the movie is, I'd be pissed too.

Starship, I am not a liar. I wanted this movie to be the fucking shit. I am so mad. I just feel so deflated. I mean love shit like this. I feel betrayed.

I just re-read the production notes, and what these reviews sound exactly like what he described:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"There's something very scary about what you can't see," adds Reeves. "You're in there with Hud, and there's no reverse angle showing you what he's not seeing. They don't have any more information than you do. Every moment becomes charged, because you know that, just off-frame, there might be something horrible happening. But you don't know what it is, because he hasn't turned the camera there yet. It becomes all about what your mind fills in."

I've followed this for months, but figured it was just another monster film; it wasn't until after I read Reeves's description that I actually got interested in seeing it. To each their own, I guess.

To nofx1978:

You remind me of one of my students. I will recommend a movie to my students and then ask for their opinions. This one student of mine has a tendency to overreact when he dislikes a film...like you.

I have a couple questions for you "Partner" (your term...not mine).

1) What were you expecting? Citizen Kane?

2) Why do you insist on using expletives (that means bad words Wink ) Didn't your parents ever tell you that people who curse do so because they lack an extended vocabulary?

3) Are you in the habit of calling people "Partner?" Normally the only people who call others "partner" are either cops, hillbillies and/or homosexuals. And you don't seem the cop type to me. Very Happy

4) Now this is not a question, it is a promise. If you were in the theater with me and you started booing...or making any such noises...I would have personally removed you! Who do you think you are that you think it's ok to ruin the movie experience for others in a theater because you wanted to see the big, creepy monster on screen more? I have personally kicked people out of a movie on several occasions for making too much noise, talking on their phone, etc. And here is a little secret for you. Those people on the screen...they can't hear. Did you know that? That's true. They aren't really in the theater and can't hear you because...IT IS A MOVIE! IT'S A ONE WAY MEDIUM! YOU SIT STILL, SHUT UP AND WATCH...JUST WATCH...GET IT! Boy oh boy I wish I was there when you were making a fool of yourself. It has been a while since I beat the snot out of a dim witted jerk like you!

Ok...I feel better now. Guess I just had to vent a little.

I suppose there aren't many long shots of the monster, but you still see it.

Well I saw it tonight as well, out in philly.

I thought although you didn't get this tracking shot of the monster, that is wildly unrealistic.

It was a different concept, and if you know anything about JJ Abrams its more about the mystery surrounding the item then the item itself.

He owns this box that he bought when he was a little kid and he refuses to open it because the mystery of whats inside is far more exciting than anything that could be in there.

OK we didnt see the monster, but its exciting none-the-less and we got some pretty damn realistic and terror instilling scenes.
