[Major Spoilers] The Key to Cloverfield Well, apparently I missed this, but in the last shot of the movie (
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a flashback with Rob and Beth
) look near the boat in the water, and this is what you'll see:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The entire movie is shot over old footage...a month before the attack according to the date at the bottom. At the end, the camera stops recording and the playback reverts back to the old film. It is of Beth and Rob ( i think) at the beach and there is a shot of the water where you can see a giant object splash down from the sky. Apparantly, the monster is an alien.
Be sure to keep your eyes open for this on the 18th!

You are just mention this now?
With everybody on here wondering why they used May instead on January?
Why didn't you just say there's a beach seen, there is NO way it can be January.

No, I didn't notice it in the movie. I got that quote from IMDB. And yes, I know IMDB is not a reliable source, so be sure to keep your eyes open at the end of the movie.

But didn't Abrams' or Reeves' say the monster has lived in the ocean for thousands of years?....

Yes, which doesn't make this make any sense. But a few people on IMDB have reported seeing this.

Did you notice they were at the damn beach??
There's a whole thread of people going apoplectic wondering why they just didn't change the Dates in the film to match the ARE and you forget to mention the final scene of the movie takes place on a beach so there is no way in hell in can be January?
Thanks...a lot, really.

That, if true, contradicts the production notes:
Quote:
The concept for the monster (affectionately known simply as "Clover" in-house) is simple, says Abrams. "He's a baby. He's brand-new. He's confused, disoriented and irritable. And he's been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years ."
And, considering MGP's size, the fall alone would:
1. Kill MGP
2. Destroy NYC
3. Destroy the camera
4. Kill Rob and Beth

Again, I said I didn't see it. I did see an earlier screening though, so I don't know if they added this in or something. Or maybe it was after the credits. Or maybe IMDB is just being IMDB.

-sigh-
You're breaking my heart starship.
Here's an update from IMDB, apparently it was during one of the
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
scenes in the movie where it keeps cutting back to Beth and Rob (what HUD was taping over)
and not at the end of the movie:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You just get the feeling it was a really important scene, no scene before it was static for that long...that it, shaky footage. JJ wanted us to see that for a reason.

The other reviewers in the original giant ass thread that turned into a monster-art-assignment said in the very beginning that the scenes on the beach were at the end of the movie. And the Rob N Beth stuff kept "bleeding" into the movie at points.
They saw it, and never mentioned anything falling into the ocean. Stay off IMDB. It will rot your brain. They were calling it a Lion untill last week.
