The other reviewers in the original giant ass thread that turned into a monster-art-assignment said in the very beginning that the scenes on the beach were at the end of the movie. And the Rob N Beth stuff kept "bleeding" into the movie at points.
They saw it, and never mentioned anything falling into the ocean. Stay off IMDB. It will rot your brain. They were calling it a Lion untill last week.
I agree with you that IMDB sucks, I just kind of wanted this to be true. Ya know, a definite point of origin.

Wait...so this doesn't happen at the end?
Well shit...somebody's going to have to be more exact about what "flashback" it is. Are they on a ferris wheel....what's going on in the scene that will help us know when to expect it.

Well,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
during the movie there are a few flashbacks of Rob and Beth building a relationship, yadda yadda. Apparently this happened in one of those.

I seem to remeber (sorry no link, was months ago) that JJ or company said something about it being an alien. Never heard anymore about it so I kind of thru it into the back of the brain.
The shot could have been added AFTER that version of the production notes. Kind of gives people the answer of where did it come from.
Just because it is this size now, does not mean it was always this size. Could be where SBN comes into play. It really bulks up this thing and the lice on it.

We need the exact scene(flashback) this is happening though....they can't just say "it was in a flashback somewhere in the film"....they need to be specific...geez

Oilmango, there are shots in the flashbacks of them riding the rides in Coney Island?
Well it's pretty obvious why the film can't take place in January then as the rides are open in January. It would have been a big help if someone had bother to mention this.

Well, when the flashbacks open, keep your eyes peeled on nothing but the ocean. --> <-- Proably just going to go splash and cut back to the action, like in I Am Legend with the helicopters, heh, And not *splash* "omg omg omg."

Very true, was just talking in general, a lot of people here have been talking about SBN having an effect on MGP.
Could have been the salt water that made him and friends bulk up, maybe he ate whale sh!t (if there is such a thing) and he bulked up. Point I was trying to make was just because he is this size now, does not mean he was when he entered the ocean.
If he was that size when he hit the ocean then yes I agree with most, if not all, the reason it couldn't have happened and many more.

Doesn't the implication of this totally kill all the back plot we've been privy to?

Negative... SBN, DSI, Slusho!, Tagruato, R2-D2, nor a BMW 325 have anything to do with the movie.
Edited to add: If anyone can think of anymore acronyms, please feel free to add them for the sake of good humor.

Gosh, I need to see this now. And unfortunately, unlike the viral campaign before it, we won't be able to post "Cloverfield" on YouTube and analyze frame-for-frame. After all, it's out in theaters, and such an action would result in arrest of those knowledgable of the indiscretion.
So, uh, sequel possibilities?
And what does SBN stand for, I forget.

I honestly dont remember seeing anything in that last shot of coney island that was out of the ordinary. imdb is full of crap. That whole point of that scene is meant to convey a sense of irony over the fact that MGP kicks NYCs ass.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
FYI, in the final scene, Beth looks toward the camera and says (paraphrase) "today was a good day" and then it cuts out.
