Re: Advanced Screening
We believe this stuff

So are we to believe all these "advanced screenings." Who are
these people, besides the press, that get to see movies a week in advance. So we just sit here like zombies and believe all
the cute drawings and all the posts about the plot. C'mon.

95% of the people in my theater were NOT press people. They were people who won tickets on the radio, tv or in local contests. Some like myself are fans who knew how to get tickets to the pre-screening. So we are no different then anyone else who is going to see the movie when it opens to the general public. I assume most were fans and followers as well otherwise they would not have tried to win tickets or have been there. If you dont want someones opinion or are going to crap on what someone thinks, dont read the posts. Go to the movie and form your own opinion. I believe this guys drawing, while not exact is one of the better depictions on here.

Well believe what you want. There was no press people in our screening that I was aware of. It's not like any of us get any gain from posting these things this close to the movie, esp when all the reviews minus one or two have been pretty similar if not all the same minus a few things that one person noticed more than the next. But a movie like this it's hard to take it all in all at once. In the anonymous internet though I can easily see why anyone would doubt until they see it. I felt the same way and avoided spoilers as much as possible until I could see it for myself in the off chance what I was read WAS right. That's really the only thing you can do to give yourself any sanity... avoid the posts and make up your own mind!

This depiction is pretty dead on. I am not sure about the number of legs, but I don't think anyone is at this point. Hud never really stopped to count 'em lol Good Job!

Agree, pretty close, best drawing of it!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Tail end not too sure on & number of arms/legs. Thing moved so fast and camera that was hard to get a good long look at it except near end when was in park for that one shot w/ Hud.The overhead shot looking down from copter was good shot of its back& head. Going again Saturday so will get better look as know when it shows MGP on screen.

Pretty sure he only had four legs for mobility, but i remember the two baby legs as well. There are scenes where it walks on two legs and uses the big front arms to brace itself on buildings while it walked. I could be wrong, but in those scenes I'm sure we would have seen the extra set if there were six.

I appreciate all of the awesome compliments, and to those who thought the sketch even came close, thanks for saying so! A couple of notes on some questions that have arisen in the thread:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It should be noted that the creature's head is never, that I can remember, shown clearly in profile; this depiction is based on the long frontal shot. It's a great scene, and it's so long that I actually had time to make this sketch during that scene. That's a lie.

I saw no hair or shell of any kind on the creature, just smooth skin. In fact, it's likely that the nourishing influence of sea-salts have given him a near-perfect complexion.

The small, paddle-like arms on the ventral surface are shown briefly, and from an odd angle; the number of paddle-arms drawn here is artistic extrapolation. It should also be noted that no number of tiny paddle-arms could propel this animal through the water, and from a scientific standpoint, it's probable that these arms are used only for cooking and wrapping gifts.

The consensus seems to be that the creature has two "arms" and two "legs", which is a relief because I don't think they make grumpy-pants that have more than two legs in them.

Again, it's unlikely that my first impression was 100% accurate, but thanks again to those who thought it was a decent representation.

At least this sketch has aquatic features.

That's a pretty good sketch, and, as a rough sketch, it is pretty representative of MGP (of course, there's a number of details we could argue about til the cows come home). Nice work, chuparex.

I saw an advance screening last Thursday in Gainesville, FL.

Here's a quick sketch of what I think is a fairly accurate representation, based on what I could see. Among the other people I've talked to, no one can seem to agree on whether the animal has two, four, or six legs. In any case, it's physiology is pretty unique in terms of resembling anything that already exists. At the bottom is a silly sketch depicting the six-legged configuration; I also have a sketch of the two-legged version that I'll post if anyone wants to check it out. Bear in mind that this is just one person's visual interpretation, and I'm sure my drawings will look different after I see the movie second and third times.

awesome picture. I was at that screening too. I love how no one believes me when I wasnt the only person on this forum to go to the event there. Anyways, to get back on topic, what I like about the picture is the detail that isnt present in the other drawings. I can't say one way or another if that one is DEAD on, I can say its pretty close to what i can still remember. I still think the arms were longer and more bat-like, but the monster did seem to change scale a lot during the movie, so everyone kind of has there own interpretation of it.

Ahh, well.. Have no idea about the movie comparison, but this is a good drawing. After some of those cruder ones before :)
