And there's a spew of tie-in sites, the BBC have really outdone themselves.

I'll spoiler it, if you want to find them yourselves:

Well I'm in the UK So I don't mind calling the # at all...

Now for those of you in the U.S... The current missions section has 4 tabs. I'll post as follows.

Police Report:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
CDD 15 MISSING PERSON
PERSON REPORTED MISSING:
Professor Conrad Fischer
12, Countrywalk Avenue, Cardiff

AGE: 46

REPORTED MISSING BY:Michael Fischer
2, Barrowman Road, London

STATEMENT:
I had arranged to meet my father for a drink at the Old Pikeman pub at 8pm last night. But he didn't show up. That's just not like my dad, he's so bloody anal about appointments - he never misses one, and he's never even five minutes late. I tried to ring him, but his mobile was turned off. I went to the house but he wasn't there.

This just isn't like my dad. I'm really worried about him.

When I spoke to him over the phone to fix up the drink he said he had started seeing a girl. Found her through some agency. Attractive and quite a bit younger than him, he said. Silly old sod. She's going to be after his money, I know it.

Maybe she's got something to do with him going missing.

SIGNED: Michael Fischer

SIGNED: PC Andy Davidson

Radio Mail:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
FROM: Jones, Ianto
TO: "George Stephens (Welsh Broadcasting Authority)"

George

Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, that's the station I was talking about - it just makes short, limited-range FM broadcasts in the Cardiff area. It only does one show, late at night, a woman called Abigail Crowe doing a phone-in show called Dark Talk. I'm glad to hear you haven't yet taken action against her - please don't. We are keen that Dark Talk is not shut down.

Most of what is discussed on the show is nonsense, but it has given us the odd good lead and we make a point of tracking it. She also broadcasts on the Internet (www.darktalk.co.uk), which means a lot of people stumble over it who wouldn't otherwise hear - and we want her to reach a nice wide audience!

Let me know if this causes any problems. I'm confident we can work round them.

Yours Faithfully

Ianto Jones

To see this you need flash, as it's a video.

Singles SOS:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
FROM: Jones, Ianto
TO: "Freelance Operatives"
Fischer's son reported that Conrad had met someone through a dating agency. We've tracked the agency down. It's called Singles SOS - www.singlessos.co.uk. You might want to look into it.

Yours

Ianto Jones

Also:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This seems to be the woman he told his son about: http://www.singlessos.co.uk/profile_natalie.html - She's marked out as 'Mrs. Right' as the others are all 'wrong' - On his sos profile.

Agreed although as has been pointed out in a previous post the Beeb clearly don't know much about running ARG's... Take this on the "about this site" section of one of those you mentioned.

Quote:
This website has been created as part of an online game for Torchwood. Torchwood is a BBC Two TV series. You can find out more about Torchwood here: www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood

This website is entirely fictional. We apologise for any inconvenience if you thought this was a real site. Any similarity to real businesses or people is entirely coincidental.

Kind of puts a dampener on the whole exp'

Just completed the mission although I missed the show. Oops. Will catch it on BBC 3 at 11:30.

I rang the Dark Talk number, it's a mailbox to leave a message for the show host.

I'm assuming this is going to come into play later in the series as there doesn't seem to be anything to report as of yet. Unless anybody wants me to report a sighting of that peculiar looking gentleman in a sports car in which case I can do.

Well it's not worth reporting that... I won't tell you why, but listen to D.T and then watch the show @ 11:30.

I too have finished the mission, hopefully I got it right.

re the disclaimer, it's the BBC - can you imagine the outcry if they did not and someone got upset. Various parts of the press would have a field day with them doing all of this stuff paid for by the license fee. You also need to consider that a LOT of what the BBC do in this area, AREs, are aimed at kids, so you will need the disclaimer. And that includes Torchwood this season, with their pre-watershed version.

ReygaPrax - the sports car guy has already being reported to Dark Talk by the caller. I think this is about making things up to appear in next weeks show. Have fun!!!! How about a giant hamster in a big ball knocking down all the drunks coming out of the pub on Friday night, rolling down Splott High St? Laughing

Authentic attempts at accents I hope too Wink

Small warning, when you do submit, that seems to be your only chance as the mission submission box then disappears.

I'm from Yorkshire, there's not much hope of an authentic accent.

I'll give them a call as soon as I come up with something

They are doing a pre-watershed version which airs later in the week at an earlier time - aimed at the kids/families who watch Doctor Who. The web clips were the 'clean' versions and I would guess they would be designing the rest of the web stuff to match that. This was a decision made early on in the production, so they wrote the episodes in a way that editing would minimally affect them. Not sure which version the US will be getting.

Just wondering but could someone from the UK send me the video we're supposed to embed? I'd like to see it and it isn't working for me. Uploading it to TubeYou would be great too.

This is a lot easier said than done. It appears that the BBC really does not want us on the other side of the pond viewing this stuff.

First, the embedded video calls up a .swf file which is in the 'protected' ARG directory, so you can't link to it directly.

Second, the .swf only seems to want to work if its in the embedded state, so even if you have a proxy that will let you link directly to the swf you get some message saying that the video is no longer available. But at least now you should be able to download the file to look at it closer.

Third, the .swf file itself has an IP check built in, so you cant just save a local copy and hope to open it via a browser or a flash decompiler and see the video.

Fourth, the video is separate from the .swf file, and the callout to it is pretty well hidden - at least I can't find out where it is, but that could just be because I suck at flash and I'm sick. I can see a bunch of calls to xml files, but even opening those I can't figure out where the actual video is coming from. Sad

All that being said, I did make a video of it using my digital camera - not the best quality, but probably better than nothing at this point. I will try to upload it when I get home from work (I have to make sure the sound is okay since I just reviewed the video part). I'll also try to upload the stupid flash file in case someone else wants to pull it apart and see if they can find something more useful.

I've been using the uk proxy. Any video would be perfect...I used to know flash then it became extra complicated.

I think their videos use the same streaming technology as the iPlayer. And by the look of it, it's not easy to reverse engineer, seems to use raw packets.

Sorry so slow in coming. Had to make some adjustments on the desk, record the videos, save the videos, and then upload to them to YouTube (after watching Torchwood myself).

The picture is a bit dark - I'll see if I can adjust it in later videos - but overall it's not that bad for a YouTube video of a digital camera recording a full screen output of the flash file.

Prologue
Mission One

I can do the same thing for the other videos that we get if you guys want.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou.... Wasn't Torchwood amazing! It really great, I am not spoiling anyone.

Just wondering but could you do that for Tosh's Guide and the CCTV?
