Calypso, can you tell us what station you were watching, as well as the program? I'm just wondering if this was a local commercial shown to a certain city, state, etc...

I did see it on a local T.V. news station (Channel 5 News) so I'm really not sure if this thing is local or nationwide. Maby if someone sees this in another state they could post about it so that we know it's not local.

If this is'nt some weird car marketing scam though it really seems interesting. Note that in the last freeze frame on the other page it looks like theres some kind of alter behind the woman talking.

Spoiler ahead!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Elemental Detroit is doing this (ad campaign?).

"Formed in the fall of 2003, Elemental has produced technically intensive, interactive projects for Compuware, DaimlerChrysler and Nokia, all while providing design, post production and web-based services to a diverse clientele."

new to ARGs - this is fun
Saw the commercial and I'm trying to figure it out

I don't even know if I'm doing this right, but a few people asked if they'd seen it only in the Chicago area. I'm in Indiana, but I get the Chicago stations and I saw it. Don't know if that helps. Also, I think it's a good point that if this really is for an auto show - why was the woman so frantic? Are auto shows that scary? (maybe they are)
Hope to learn more about these games - Cloverfield certainly caught my attention.

Auto Show

The Chicago Auto Show start Feb 6 for the media and Feb 8 for the public, I don't think this is it

The double arrows to the right to me suggests the skip/scan universal labeling on most media playing devices and other media navigational interfaces. Pointing to the right as they are would be for the next item, hence "see it next". Take note that the icon is in fact used on the embedded player on the site.

If the General isn't General Motors, that is a bit of an odd reference. As the TV spots were only in Chicago area thus far, I'm inclined to think it'd be related to the Auto Show. Just because a promotion will be 'revealed' on the 4th doesn't mean that an event has to happen that day, and even if it did it wouldn't be surprising for an automaker to do such a thing both physically and chronologically near another major event just for convenience.

That said, I think it's more likely this is something to do with media. The symbolism seems to go with that. Movie rentals? A Chicago area chain of some sort? I'll keep poking around...

i e-mailed him with my ebay acct. and asked about his subject line - and received this back:

"Subject: You've received an answer to your question about item 25 DVD LOT, NEW SEALED RARE RANDOM OUT OF PRINT"

Nothing was in the body of the message - just a subject line. (he may be referring to the fact that someone else asked a question and he already posted an answer). I asked a different question though, asked if a new movie was coming out on Feb. 4.

General's North Chamber

The Auto Show at McCormick place starts on February 8th... 4 days after the date specified. So that might not be it. Or by entering our email, we may receive a chance to see a pic (of whatever care they're pushing) 4 days early.

But I really don't want it to be the auto show - so it isn't. There. Now that that's done...

Another consideration. The photo is of buildings adjacent to Grant Park. So the general is Grant. But what if it isn't the General Grant in Grant Park? There's a statue of Grant in Lincoln Park that appears to be raised on a pedestal with columns. The pedestal seems to be open, forming a chamber or series of chambers. Is anyone familiar with this? Could these be the general's north chambers?

I don't know about the Grant Statue in Lincoln Park, but here is a good photo of it:

As I believe was previously noted, the show opens to the public on the 8th, and to the press on the 6th. That happens so press doesn't have to fight with the public crowds to get decent shots of the displays and such, and major presentations can be given in an atmosphere that isn't disrupted by public crowds and is better suited to press coverage. Still means the show is largely if not completely set up 2 days early. No reason to think that there couldn't be something already being done on the 4th, considering the whole work week has probably been set aside for the show (4th is Monday, 6th is Wednesday, 8th is Friday).

Sorry to ruin your hopes to exclude it as a possibility.

I'm still more inclined to think it's for something even less spectacular than an unveiling at the auto show.

I'm not sure I understand who you emailed Palm. I guess it was the person with the eBay listing. Not sure what you were trying to get at.

I don't doubt that this is for the Chicago Auto Show.

Like last year, the mysterious commercial is just to get people to submit their email address so they'll be notified about the show.

The eBay seller is unrelated and just trying to capitalize off of people's curiosity.

... the general's north chamber ...

I think the phrase is just a hinting to the location..

The general = Probably an overstatement (or bad research) on the namesake of McCormick Place, Colonel McCormick. Other sources list him as General.

North chamber = North exibition halls.

This is kind of a long shot, but the new Batman movie was filmed in Chicago. And "I saw this symbol in the sky again..." thing.

I really think it is the auto show - it all seems to fit so well; unless the Batman is going to BE AT the auto show with is BATMOBILE! That is a thought. For the record, just a few days ago I got a bulletin board message from the joker myspace page that said "Did you Miss Me? It makes me smile to see you're one of the serious ones, clown. Now...time to be patient. I'll be in touch....", " Usually in the past when a message comes out something happens shortly thereafter.

Edited: I think you may be on to something - I have been involved in the whysoserious game going on and the whole theme of the advertising campaign has been "The Joker's True Face Revealed!". They have been using the word "Revealed" all throughout the ad campaign. If you notice in the video, she says "The future is revealed" and on the site it says "on Feb. 4th the future is revealed".

I e-mailed the ebay guy to see if the films were some kind of clue - or new movie coming out. Since igneon mentioned batman film I checked and no there is no old batman film in the bunch he is selling. I agree that it is somone trying to capitalize on the ad.

I don't think this is related to the Dark Knight...the whois information is for Elemental, a New Media Marketing company out of Michigan focused on Event Production. This reinforces the assumption that we're dealing with a promotion for the auto show at McCormick Place. (Especially since they created the "visual identity" of the 2006 North American International Auto Show)

However, I'd assume if anybody would put something up for TDK, it'd be 42 and not a different company entirely. It's possible, but I don't think it's very likely.
