"Most bizarre would have to be the tale of the website which, when you view it, you lose your mind. Perhaps it's subliminal content, or bizarre and terrifying scenes, but those who look at it are drawn in, unable to tear themselves away, and the further into the site they go the further from reality they get. Eventually the surfer undergoes a psychotic break."
One reality maybe

outside.html With the new update, under the "This Week's Urban Myths" catagory we get a story entitled
Quote:
The Internet is Driving Me Crazy
Open outside.html. Enter.
It seems to me that to find this mystery site we must add "outside.html" to something. But to what? I have tried lots of combinations like:
http://www.urbanmythology.net/legends/tiidmc/outside.html
http://www.urbanmythology.net/legends/outside.html
http://www.urbanmythology.net/outside.html
http://www.urbanmythology.net/legends/Open_outside.html
http://www.urbanmythology.net/Open_outside.html
http://www.dreadhouse.com/outside.html
http://www.dreamprojector.com/outside.html
Nothing works.
Any theories?

Yeah, I had similar thoughts and also tried many of the above combinations, and in addition tried
http://www.deadpoems.com/outside.html
and
http://www.cambridgementalhospital.com/outside.html
Again, none of them worked.
That story does seem suspicious, but it could just be a red herring I suppose *shrug* Anyone got any other ideas?

I concur with Rob in that it's probably just a slight jab at the computer obsessed.

Hey, look what you get when you try this... By accident, I goofed when typing "www.urbanmythology.net"
So look at what I got when I typed "wwww.urbanmythology.net"
Hmmm.... part of the game?
(sorry if this has been pointed out already)

Interesting. This week's update includes a small discussion of Something Sounds Funny which says
Quote:
Infrasound can also cause anxiety, chills, and sorrow, and has been shown to snuff out candles. Keep that in mind the next time you visit a haunted house.
[SPEC] The "haunted house" has a more mundane issue: it's the target of government/corporate/natural ultrasound or other energy beam source. The missing folks succumbed to its effects, as did the lunatics there previously.

Also, here's something else I accidentally noticed - which is think is NOT in game: so i google Foehn (from the sound article)
top link is http://www.xyroth-enterprises.co.uk/foehn.htm
i click site index and get
http://www.xyroth-enterprises.co.uk/sindex.htm
which mentions "The Werid Company"

The Dream Projector part of the site was updated a couple of days ago with the following:
Quote:
7/29/04 Update: I've been getting a lot of mail about Dream Projector this week! I apologize that I haven't been able to respond to everyone individually. Yes, I did just receive an invitation from Dr. Karl Shoemaker to check out the facilities. I really am quite intrigued and have half a mind to go. My work schedule probably won't permit me to take the time off for several months, but I'll keep it in mind as something to try.

There's an update on Urban Mythology folks... checking it now
Okay, so there's a story sent in by Varin... plus the following:
Omniscient Mater
"A former Mafioso was taken into the Federal Witness Protection Program after testifying against his partners in crime. He was given a new identity, plastic surgery, clothing, job, and housing. A month after the move, he checked his mail and found a letter from his alma mater university, asking for funds. The letter was addressed to his real name."
and a very long one about the number Seven (http://www.urbanmythology.net/legends/seven.html). Anyone see anything that might be a clue?

An Austrailian serial killer who kills again in Scotland? Yeah, right.
Still, it's a not-so-subtle clue that the number seven may be important... not that it helps much, people have a subconcious need to seek out the number seven anyway...

Surprisingly, this Mad Dog fellow seems to be a real person. He's all OVER Google on legit news sites, so he's probably not connected. The 7, however, looks very odd, like it came off a bar code or one of those optical illusion pictures. I don't know what that means.

An interesting thought, but I have a feeling the hint is actually more direct:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Next time you visit dreadhouse.com keep in mind that information could be hidden in the sound on the page

I do believe that the PMs may be having a jibe at the ILBs game with their article on the number 7.
Who else lately has been more obsessed with this number than those trying to connect ILB to Bungie?
