[spoiler] reason for the title
trout me, I could care less, just want some verification

Look, someone said in an earlier post that it's called cloverfield because at the end you see the "monster's foot steps or feet" and it leaves an imprint of what looks like a four leaf clover so ny basically looks like a "field of clover" imprints from the monster raping it to death. Is this correct??

And go ahead and put your gay little trout images here, I really don't care.

It's called 'Cloverfield' because it's the name of the exit near JJ Abrams' studio.

1. Please don't offer up any trout unless you can also provide the link to where the subject was previously posted.

The purpose of trout is to thank a person for doing some effort (they found something, they solved something) but it has already been done. It was NEVER intended to be mean or malicious. Cool

2. Please don't offer up any mean or snide comments TOWARDs another uF member. If someone else makes such remarks, don't respond in kind (two wrongs never make a right, even if you can make a right with three left Wink turns).

Now, back to the original question - which I believe has other threads where it is being discussed, if you look around - but it does help to have a good description of the topic in the thread title.

The original movie title was suppose to be something else (from various interviews w/ movie production people). It was given a "code name" during production (a very common industry practice) based on the street where Bad Robot has offices in Santa Monica. Other code names identified included Cheese, Chocolate (used when filming in NYC).

Between then and the actual title release, something happened to change the producers' minds about the original title and they appear to have just decided to stick with "Cloverfield". It appears they explain it by making it the "Case designated: Cloverfield" in the opening of the film...for whatever reason they want to come up with.

Whether it is really explained or not? I'm betting NO (because JJ Abrams likes to leave stuff up to the public's imagination more than once). Also, the US Govt throws names on stuff all the time (military operations for example). Sometimes those names make sense, and sometimes they appear very random (like they have some weird code name generator in a little 8080 computer in a basement). Wink
