[SEED][META] Post-Game (-Premiere) Forum/Sandbox
"& maybe the folks who are here only for Cloverfield will find somewhere else to play..."

I'm going to attempt to walk a fine line. Apologies in advance if I falter.

The Subject description above is a quote from RedHatty. I'm highlighting it because I'm here only for Cloverfield. So yea, I'm only passing through. There's nothing wrong with that. Unfiction was the right kind of place at the right time. I'm actually a huge fan of Unfiction (read: you). I'm also a big advocate of forums and conversation vs. blogs and soapboxes...

I've learned that when a game is over in Unfiction, the forum where it was played gets archived. I think it's safe to say--give the ambiguous nature of the Cloverfield game--that this particular game will be over when people stop posting about it. When that will happen is anyone's guess. But for those of us who are here for the movie, the idea that we'll stop being fans, much less all together and all at once, doesn't quite follow.

Most of you are aware of http://tagruato.blogspot.com/ If you haven't visited it in a while, have a look. You'll see that I've added a forum to it. At this stage, this is just me tooling around. While I've only dabbled at customization and forum mechanics at this point, you can customize these forums to reflect their parent website (example) as well as create sub-forums and host of other gadgetry. Pretty cool, and not insignificantly, it's all free. But a forum--no matter the software--is only as good as its community.

What I'm contemplating is setting up a post-game sandbox/forum for those of us who are just here for the movie, and who would like to see this community carry on (or even just agree to meet at a designated spot for Cloverfield II) rather than scatter to the wind. I'll be more than happy to handle the heavy lifting, although collaboration is always welcome.

Anyway, like the tag suggests, I'm just planting the seed of an idea with this post. I'm curious whether anyone would be interested. I'm curious whether my fellow bloggers (in particular Cloverfield Clues) would be interested in joining the effort with, for example, sub-forums for their readers. So while I'll probably persist in getting things organized--what can I say, I love this stuff--your enthusiasm or lack thereof matters.

Call it the "CloverHeads" forum and I'm so there. Razz

Seriously, I get the jist of your idea....not too shabby. If this film becomes like a "cult classic"...there will be plenty of people who would need a place to speak "all Clover-all the time".

Peace.

I like CloverHeads too. In fact, I just secured the blogspot. However, for now I want to wait and see how important "Tagruato" ends up being. It might be the case that Tagruato is already in pretty good position to be found by fans in search of a home.

It's been a fun ride. I've been aware of Unf for a good while (since Ilovebees), but this was the first time I got involved. I may grav into a few other games, or at least try, but I'll probably follow Clovershtuff for a while. Rode the gonzo hindu crap for way too long and had too good a time doing it to just totally abandon the scene.

Thanks Unfiction. Keep on keeping on. Thanks Cloverheads. You rock. And special thanks to those who linked to me and who made contributions to the effect.

I'll be lurking.

This is a great idea, but could you have maybe quoted from any of the many times I have posted here about Cloverfield people (of which, if you haven't noticed, I am one myself!) being welcomed here? Could, possibly, someone have maybe asked what happens with subforums like this at unfiction? Perhaps ask how long will this continue before being archived or how those decisions are made?

I'm happy if people want to make other forums and really glad if people made friends. I've made some great friends from these forums too. Having other forums is great, I'm not opposed to that at all. But, is it possible to have the creation of those forums be based on something positive rather than the erroneous idea that Cloverfield players aren't welcomed here or that there won't be a place to keep posting about this in the future?

I just can't tell you how frustrating this whole discussion is for me. Well, I just did..it is terribly frustrating and possibly ultimately futile, but I won't give up without a fight. (the fight isn't about creating new forums, but about this incorrect and self-deprecating impression that 1-18-08 players aren't part of unfiction.)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the premiere, only a few more hours now. Smile

Please don't take that one comment by one individual in the heat of the moment to heart. It's certainly not my opinion.

Games don't get archived the instant there's an ending, it's a decision taken after traffic dies down to a whisper - as I mentioned to you Eddy. As long as people continue to want somewhere to discuss Cloverfield then this will be a place where they can do so. There are no plans to archive - the change in the forum was in order to cope with an influx of people after the movie, being curious about what's going on.

If you want somewhere else to go too, that's brilliant, choice is a good thing (I love choosing), but to echo rose, please don't do so cos you think you're not welcome. ARGs are about communities, collaborative play is central - this community is big and has a constant high influx of new people, that makes it dynamic and interesting in my book.

I'm enjoying Cloverfield, I even enjoy moderating it (yes, I get a strange sexual thrill from tagging threads Wink ), I will be here to the bitter end when only spammers occasionally visit offering me credit cards (I will strike up conversations with them and smell of cat's wee) eventually leaping cackling into the flames of a thousand burning slusho cups that I will have painstakingly constructed from my Cloverfield cinema ticket stubs.

Well, some people do make a lot of other folks feel unwanted with the excessive trouting and all. Let's be realistic. No one's dogging on Rose or Mikeyj...or me for that matter since I do use the search function, but I've seen many people treated bad unnecessarily.
