Ok, just saw the movie, and we're talking about the Coney Island scene at the end of the movie correct?

Now when and where is something supposed to fall into the Atlantic exactly?

During the Coney Island scene, Rob points the camera out toward the ocean, showing the area below the ferris wheel, then panning up to a more level position, where he holds it for a couple seconds. Then, about a fourth or third of the way across the screen from the right, something falls from the sky into the ocean (too far away/not quite large enough to be noticed by Rob and Beth).

I saw the object. I would have noticed it if I was filming. If you look at the boat, you will not miss it.

Saw the midnight showing in Boston tonight.

There is 100%, unquestionably, without a doubt something falling into the water in that scene.

I have no idea what it is, but its there. I guess im going to have to go with the satellite, because if it was the monster, then a ton of stuff we are supposed to already know would not make any sense.

If it IS the satellite, then it truly adds to my disappointment.

Of all the things I hoped to be in the movie from the ARG, Tagruato's SATELLITE was not one of them!!! (angry typing guy) . And it appears to be one of, if not, the only one. I am not counting the slusho T shirt.

Definitely the last thing I cared about was to see a reference to a satellite. Oh well, thats just me.

Hey... I just got back from seeing the film. In all honesty, I found it to be a bit on the average side. Anyway, I'm writing to back this guy up - something definitely falls into the ocean at the end of the film. It's very small and doesn't create a giant splash, but there is, beyond a shadow of doubt, something that's propelled into the water. A guy sitting next to me commented on it as well.

But, like I said, it's quite small... and even though it's far off into the distance, I'd estimate the object would be no larger than an elephant. The satellite theory actually sounds quite feasible.

If you're rewatching it and want to catch a glimpse of it, then on the very last shot cast your gaze to right side of the shot, around the middle of the frame and I guarantee you'll see it.

Rob had panned the camera out over the ocean and towards the end of the pan before he turns it back on Beth and himself, you see a boat for a couple of seconds. If you look towards the middle of the screen at that moment, you see something plunge into the water.l

Hmmm... well, there's quite a long shot looking out into the ocean, there's a boat in the distance, and then SPLASH - something hits the water. If I remember correctly, there's even a bit of a smoke trail behind it.

I'm not sure if you guys have seen a film called 'Clue', but during its theatrical release they'd send out the reels, but different cinemas got a different third reel. There were about four different endings. Anyway, as a result, people used to get into arguments over what happened in the end.

Could this be happening with Cloverfield?

I can tell you right now, something definitely landed in the water when I saw it.

I know some people have complained about the ARG not really (or at all) matching up with the movie, and I'm not saying this is what really happened, but:

If you just watch the movie and don't think about the ARG-related stuff, it's really obvious that the falling object was intended to be assumed as the monster by those who know nothing about the ARG. It even ties up the end of the movie with the beginning: Rob, Beth, and monster in "present"--Rob, Beth and monster in flashbacks, kinda linking the old footage and newer.

I have no idea if anyone else in the theater I was at saw it (right next to OSU), but it is unmistakable if you do notice it. It doesn't take up more than maybe 1/100th of the entire screen at any time, but considering that the surface of the ocean is calm at the time and it falls in front of a clear, blue sky, it's not difficult to identify (as something falling, I mean; not what it actually is).

But, didn't JJ or Matt say the movie would have things only the ARG/Viral following people would "get"? Now I haven't seen the movie, but I would guess this is the tag satellite, and this is one of those things.

edmundo_dupont: Someone else who's seen Clue! The casting on that movie was the best I've ever seen.

edit: Correcting you on a point. There was a fourth ending, filmed and everything, but it was only ever in the dime store novelization of the movie. Not even the DVD has it, and I don't think the theatres ever showed it. Everything else you said was spot on though.

It is there. I watched for it. On the right, where the boat is.

And Mr.Grumpypants looks like a giant vampire bat with a tail!

And the movie rocked. I am very pleased. Whoever said you don't see enough of the monster must have been watching another movie.
