If you just watch the movie and don't think about the ARG-related stuff, it's really obvious that the falling object was intended to be assumed as the monster by those who know nothing about the ARG. I like this idea. Having the falling object be the monster would not make a lot of sense in the ARG world, but in the regular movie goer world, it makes perfect sense. It would be long shot to think that your average movie goer would think the splash was anything BUT the monster. How are they supposed to know about this satellite?

Its a very visible, noticeable scene, and a lot of people are going to see it who know nothing of this game. I dont think they would try to pull the wool over everybodys eyes and tell them it was a satellite. I now think they intended for this to be the monster for the regular joe.

Ah hell. I dont know what I think any more. this movies got me all FLUSTERED.

Yeah, man, I'm with ya. I don't think the whole viral marketing thing was thought out well enough. I mean, I could understand a few little discrepancies, but not to the extent that have been present.

Well. Here's hoping that some kinda revelation about how it all fits together pops up. And soon, dammit.

Something does indeed fall from the sky during the Coney Island Ferris wheel scene at the end. It falls from the right of Beth and splashes down in the ocean. I specifically watched for it tonight and saw it plain as day. Could it have been some sort of beacon that led the monster there?Strange it falls there then a month later the monster shows up there. Confused

Well, like I said, I went to see the movie again today and I did see the object falling from the sky! Really not sure how this fits with the ARE but its there.

I'm gunna go out on a limb and say its both the monster AND the satellite. To the average movie-goer its the monster, explained easyily enough. BUT to people like you and i who have been following this ARE its the sattelite, honestly if it IS a throwback to the ARE they aren't going to just say "oh yeah thats a sattelite, if you dont understand to bad" they're just going to not comment on it and let people think what they want.

Well, I didn't read this thread until this morning (after I saw the film), so I didn't notice the object.

However, it makes complete sense to me....

Tag sat falls out of sky with MGP attached (captured, or whatever) and happens to land near NYC. Tagruato sends large oil tanker to pick up satellite - maybe they had pics of something that attacked the satellite or they captured MGP, so they know there may be more than just a satellite to pick up. They get everything on board and start testing - things go horribly wrong on ship - MGP escapes. Maybe he was just an egg when they picked him up?

Lots of speculation, but really thing falling into sea - tag coming to get satellite - things going wrong... that line or thinking makes sense to me.

to add to this.... if anything above is true, then it would make the military only that much more interested in this particular video. How many other videos out there could have caught both the satellite and the destruction.

Gawd, I'm going into ubergeek mode now.

1) It wasn't Tag's satellite that fell.
Quote:
Tagruato used the Hatsui satellite to try to identify a rogue piece that is thought to have fallen off of the Japanese Government's "ChimpanzIII" satellite. Although Hatsui's work has not yet been able to confirm the identity of the fallen piece, Tagruato scientists and engineers are busily trying to track and recover the fragment. According to Hatsui data, it disappeared into the Atlantic Ocean late last week

2) In the production notes, JJ Abrams makes this statement.
Quote:
The concept for the monster (affectionately known simply as "Clover" in-house) is simple, says Abrams. "He's a baby. He's brand-new. He's confused, disoriented and irritable. And he's been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years."

So, the thing falling out of the sky might be thought of by some folks as MGP, but we know better. It was most likely the piece of the satellite that fell off.

I SO TOTALLY SAW IT.

Alrighty, the thing about this little pretty unnoticeable thing, is that half of us are seeing it, and the other half arent. I think the only reason some of us are seeing it, is that we're all wrapped up in the mystery and the clues, and probably werent paying attention to most of the movie as we analyzed every little logo and whisper (Dont get me started on whispers). So people who werent looking at the movie as just one more giant clue wouldnt notice something like this, and J.J. knew that, and I think he put that in there just for the people playing the game.

Even if you did see it, and you werent playing the ARG, you would probably just think you were seeing things and forget about it... not treat it as a huge clue.... I dont know, thats my point of view.

So WAY TO GO to whoever first put 2 and 2 together and guessed the piece of the satellite! Another example of the benefits of playing this game with lots of people!

On another note, somebody should seriously make a timeline. A timeline including AAAALLLL the events that have been going on, including but not limited to January 18th to May 23rd. Or whatever the dates were.

I'm kinda hoping it's setting up another monster for the sequel. MGP's adversary or something. Maybe his owners sending another monster to get back their 'pet'....

I SAW THE OBJECT TO

I just got back from seeing the movie and it was AWESOME!!! 5* NE ways I saw the object fall in the water very clear! when you get to the scene where you see a overview of the ocean look to the right and focus your attention at the boat it falls like rite next to it I think its the monster and not the satellite for one it was moving fast... an example would be when you see a plane blow up and fall from the sky it does not shoot down to floor like the object did in the movie so if it was the satellite it wouldnt be falling that fast even if it was from space and thats why i think its possible the monster

There are two timelines at the Despoiler Wiki:

I saw it tonight and I 100% saw the object falling.

Overall the movie exceeded my expectations, too. I really loved this and I can definitely see a worthwhile sequel coming about.

Just came back from seeing the movie a second time. Awesome movie, seeing it the second time let me focus on all the little details of the movie. I DEFINITELY did see something fall into the water at the end as did a few other people in the audience.
