Funny, the midnight crowd seemed to be with it during every single scene, and then, at the end, booing.

A lot of complaints as people shuffled out were of the I-wish-they-explained-more variety.

Right. Because it would've been sensible for the kids to run into a scientist in a white lab coat and a gray fright wig who tells them where it came from, what its name is, etc.

Gah. I lose faith in the American movie-going public a little more each day.

I totally agree with what you say about the average movie-goer. Most people don't take any movies very seriously, despite paying so much to see them. Doesn't that seem illogical? If it weren't for that, we wouldn't have so many movies that studios put out just to get people in the theater, rather than focusing on actually making a good movie.

I saw it at a theater right next to OSU and people seemed to have the same reaction at first, but once all the boo-ers left, I heard some say that they liked it.

Also, some laughed after the helicopter scene, for no apparent reason (I think their thoughts probably went like this: "hey, I'm tough, look, Ill laugh when the most serious scene comes up [so people won't think I'm afraid"]). Every time someone is motivated to act "macho," because they want others to see them as a stereotypical male, it makes me laugh. The stereotypical male is a moron, basically, and these are the types who continually re-enforce that image as well.

(I am a male in case anyone was wondering. I know I got way off topic, but stupid people in general make me angry. I manage to get people's respect without adhering to any of the stereotypes that I can think of, except emotionlessness, but that's just how I am.)

Just got back and all I can say is "WOW!" I't was excellent despite knowing most of the spoilers in advance. You could hear a pin drop from the moment the monster was introduced all the way til the end. I wish I could watch it again right now! Much more onscreen time of the monster than I expected after reading all of the reviews from others. And at the end when Rob and Beth are at Coney Island(1 month prior) on the ferris wheel you do indeed see something fall from the sky(from the right behind Beth) and splash down in the water. This movie lived up to the hype and then some imo. Shocked

I went to the only midnight showing anywhere near me, and it was great. The theater I was in was only half full (and I beat them all, and got the BEST seat Twisted Evil ), but I only heard a few genuine bemoans of the film. Frankly I think only the most shallow instant gratification types would boo this film - that or those expecting the same old Godzilla flick. What I did hear was frustration over the sustained mystery.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Oh, and the abrupt ending. People really couldn't believe that was it. Lots of people sat through the whole credits, only to see nothing and thanks to the gradual growth of conversation failed to hear what was whispered at the end.

Screw the critics that totally pan this. I can accept those that suggest that anyone that didn't follow the viral campaign will have a harder time understanding it and less enjoyment - but those that had no knowledge of it where I was still enjoyed it. There was no lack of palpable suspense and frightful action.

eye level with the center of the screen Cool

lol ... That's about what - 87% of the population Rolling Eyes

I hit the 11:59 on the dolo - nobody wanted to go last night 'cuz they all had
to work today (everybody and their "jobs" ... pssft ). I couldn't
miss it tho - imma take the whole fam damily tonite too !!

Very intense - some parts surreal - that movie combined with this interactive
internet investigation has made for a powerful - likely the most powererful,
veiwing experiences in my time ... (what a ride it's been )

Indeed - in typical Jabramz fashion there may always be more questions
than answers. And after seein' that movie, I've got a feeling that, even
tho the cat's outta the bag, the Cloverfield train isn't at it's last stop at all -
it's just gettin' rollin' ...

And, once again, thank you JJ, Dave, Matt, Brian, Nicole and all of you
who worked hard & endlessly behind the curtain. I don't think I'm alone
when I say I seriously appreciate everything you krazy katz poured into
this intimate, innovative, and intense mental rave - if I could hug ya I would !!
(How's that for awkward Wink )

I think all of Rutgers was at the movie theater where I was, because both shows were PACKED! I was supposed to meet a few of the forum members, but it was nigh impossible to find anyone until you were seated (which was almost impossible to find, too, unless you were right up front on the floor, no please). My friend found two good seats up near the top along the aisle, and I saw someone with a Slusho! shirt coming up, said something to him, but he was so intent on finding a seat, I don't think he noticed me. I have a feeling that it was one of the uf forum members I was supposed to meet, but the movie was getting ready to start, and people were panicking to find seats. BUT, I got to see it and am so ready to see it again. It will almost be like seeing it for the first time, bringing my nephew. I'll look for the splash behind Beth (how did I miss that?). So excited....so excited!
