The one thing that tells me how much I liked this movie...
I was really getting into the story unfolding in the apartment...then MGP showed up and interrupted it...the bastard.
From that point on was pure sweetness.
One of the best movies I've ever seen...and is definitely on my top-10 list of all-time favorites.
Oh and I'm very prone to motion sickness...and the movie didn't bother me at all.
So anyone getting sick over this must be a real pussy.

......... ..... ....
All I got to say is.....F**K YEAH! That movie was FUN! Straight up good time. I really felt like it was a ride that rocked the theatre. Good sound system helps. I went with 3 friends to a (Sold out) midnight showing too. (1 I filled in the arg stuff, and 2 other guys, one who also knew a little about it and another who didn't know anything ARG-wise. Anyway...I was expecting the 20 minute lull but seriously....Hud kept things flowing smooth. I wondered if Pg-13 humor would work but really guys....he is great to be at the wheel. The CG was better than most films that have substantially larger budgets by far. Cg can only do so much...you have to really be creative to pull that stuff off. Movies today...have lost sight of this .
I liked the monster....I'm glad I saw a few pics and drawings before hand so I would know what I was looking at too. Feaky looking...and Zilla-pwnage for sure. The tail taking out the bridge was surprising. The night-vision scene was awesome. Exploding chicks? The helicopter scene was like a deranged theme park ride...and the monster's close up....right on!!!!! That was six months in the making for me guys. Closure moment of silence.
Why write a review though? Lots of people are gonna be doing that. I'm just crazy exciting right now and probably not gonna sleep. I want to say though...that for following this the last 6 months...I didn't feel the least bit let down. While Cloverfield isn't the greatest movie ever made...it is a great cinematic achievement. This movie will hopefully be a wake-up call to all the lack-luster over-priced dung heaps that get churned out every year. If you really take the time and get creative....I mean smart and not cliche...a really unique piece of entertainment. It may not be the film to end all films...but hopefully it will change the way some films are created. Less style and more substance.
The guy directly in front of me said it sucked. Then the guy next to him said he liked it a lot. When the movie ended people were for the most part....confused by what they had seen. Many....(motion-sick) people were also at a loss. Amidst all the critique all I could think about was how I enjoyed the movie for myself. The immersion was intense for me and a key highlight. On a personal level it was fun for me. Fun.
Anyway.....as far as the Coney Island scene...I definetly saw something splash around in the upper right hand corner. Also the static....was one or two words that I couldn't make out.
Out of my 3 companions the receptions was as follows...
1. Said it was as good as he thought it be.....meh. (Didn't follow the arg)
2. Was confused and enjoyed it...but so very confused.(knew stuff about the arg)
3.Thought it was freaking awesome.(Didn't follow the arg but became interested with the trailers on tv and in the movies)
Me...It was fun and worth it. I felt the online stuff...well not essential to the movie...made me feel familiar with the characters and gave it that much more depth. JJ's mad scheme worked for me in the end.
I felt like I got off a deranged roller coaster(yeah I keep picturing that imagery)...paranoid and seeing the world through Hud-vision upon exiting the theatre...expecting the monster's leg to come crashing down.
My only gripe....a few F-bombs would have helped for realism but I get that whole demagraphic money making deal...also I ordered a Slusho! hat and shirt back in late November and they didn't make it in time! Bleh...TT_TT
Finally...
^_^ Remember to enjoy it for yourselves and not for what critics say guys. Later.

Where do I begin...
OMFG!!! AHHHHHH!!!!
OK, I think I'm calm now...
First off, this kicks ass. I can see where those that haven't followed the viral campaign aren't going to be as deeply affected by the events of the film, but even those in the theater I went to that had no idea about the viral campaign (and I talked to a few of the people) were pretty excited about the film. The sense of dread was noticeable in other people's reactions, but knowing what we do about the main characters makes it even more distressing.
To anyone that says we don't ever see the monster clearly - what did you want? the usual really long shot standing damn near still you get in the more pulp style monster movies (GODZILLA if you didn't get what I meant). Sorry, but staring RIGHT UP at it's face, seeing shots of it's whole body from a helicopter - even if it has to sweep to catch it all, or is short - is a damn good look. There's definitely a reason they say multiple sightings.
The comedy in the opening ala Shakespearean plays, the careful movement of focus from action to pathos to humor and around again - this was very well crafted. A musical score would have trashed it.
Oh, and since there are definitely spoilers in this thread already I'm tagging it.

When I lived in Orlando, I saw lots of British tourists at all times of the year. Seems like there's some surprisingly reasonable airfares between Orlando and the UK. I understand the travel was actually cheaper than going to Disneyland France, hence why all the UK folks choose to fly over.
Check it out, you might be able to get a weekend hop 'across the pond' and see the film, and this is the slow season for tourism there so there might be some incentives or deals.

I'm totally gonna need someone to post a pic of this (animated GIF would rock). I didn't see anything but, like most, I wasn't looking for it. As for the whisper, do we know who's voice it was (once reversed of course)? It didn't really sound like Rob.
BTW, yes the movie rocked. Yes I felt sick to my stomach because of the camera. Yes I am a pussy. But at least I stayed in my chair for the whole thing.

Hey, this looks like the right thread!
Also just back, had to wait a whole day to see it!!!
First thoughts:
Short movie
Lots of action
Better technically than I thought
Typical bloody JJ with the unanswered questions.
I went with a couple of friends who were aware of the ARG but had not been following and they were pretty impressed with it.
I really liked the monster design, but it really did look like a land animal. It also looked more like something alien rather than terrestrial. I don't really know why, maybe just because it was so different in anatomy to any other large animal.
The acting was ok, considering they did not even know what the movie was about.
I missed the end credits, and I did not see the falling object, but I was completely unspoiled so I don't feel too bad about that.
Gotta go digest the movie, sleep, and then come back. Definitely a great experience.

THIS MOVIE ROCKED!!!!!!
I'm awake now and my head is STILL reeling! I've already purchased tix for my nephew and I for this afternoon's showing in Digital Projection (supposedly better quality, clearer picture, etc.), so I can REALLY pay attention to those things that people pointed out that I missed and stay for the end of the credits. last night, in NJ, there were TWO sold out midnight shows at our theatre (make Fandango your friend!!!) and my son-in-law missed out. My housemates were there, but at the 12:05 showing. One of them asked me, after they got home, if I was disturbed at all (they didn't follow the ARG like I did, but I tried to fill them in on some of what I could, and showed them the news videos), I told him HELL NO! His wife, however, couldn't sleep at first, until I assured her that this was just a movie, hahahaha. It was THAT kind of a ride, even for people that weren't as involved as we were. BUT, for those of us that have been here, it was GREAT!!! A bit sad, though, and quite funny at times. I loved HUD - he was perfect! And the shot of the couch at the party was the best. I was one of the few in the theatre that laughed my ass off at that part! So satisfying. Can't wait to see it again, and again, and can't wait for the Director's cut DVD!!!

i have to agree with everyone here, this movie was amazing.
i LOVED MGP and his babies, they looked awesome and kicked serious ass. Hud was hilarious and i really felt bad for him when he got the close-up with MGP(awesome scene)
i will make sure to see this again, it did NOT disappoint!

two things
1)
The theater that I went to was 1/4 full (everyone but me and my fiance were stoners), seriously like 30-40 people in a 300+ seat room (and I saw it in DLP... aswesome!)
No line
No Crowd
Everyone waited till the end, which was kinda kool. Some were like "dude, i heard online there's gonna be something at the end"
(the idiots talked right through it)
2)
Please avoid major spoilers in this thread (i dont want to become a spoiler quite yet)
Use this thread to talk about how much you like it, not disect and interpret it (leave that to other open threads)
I'm glad a lot of UFers are agreeing. Best Monster movie I've ever seen. Hands down, it set the bar for dread-based horror movies (not gore/horror like hostel and saw, I mean actual quality movies )

Going to see it in DLP this afternoon. Never saw a movie in that format - is it really that much better than the "regular"?

In my opinion, its like HD to Digital Cable...
sometimes there is a dramatic different, other times its not so bad either way...
You've seen it in a regular theater, right?
when you go to the DLP showing, let us know which had better quality
I can tell you this tho, Skywalker did an AMAZING job with the SoundFX.... I'm sure the DLP has better Surround sound too...
I think DLP allows clearer scenes when things are going crazy... It honestly wasnt that bad for me (i didnt even notice the shaking half the time)
and the CG was pretty good. I've seen better, but obviously the $$$ played a factor there...
the Teaser for Star Trek tho was SWEET as HELL in DLP...
