Bungie also released a game called ONI a few years back...dunno if that has anything to do with this, but it may be a connection....

BEEs, DRONEs and a QUEEN al have something to do with the hive and beowulf class computers.
In halo, Beowulf was the ONI A.I. who screened the initial presentation of Covenant information to the Spartans.
What if this entity is Beowulf?

What if this has nothing to do with Bungie games?

With constant references to an ONI AI? Hugely unlikely now, especially given that half the story of the Halo novels centers around ONI an their AI's.
We finally have a solid, conclusive link - lets not ignore it. I only dismissed the theories before because the only links were vague at best.

I only said "What if." I'm not actually being serious.
I'd like to see some more information to clarify some things-
1. Why, since the Halo universe is far into the future, are we seeing snippets of conversations from that time period?
2. Is there some sort of time travel that is supposed to be involved?

copied from my post on the keyes post since more than likely you haven't seen it and I doubt it'd keyes anyway
Per time travel: There is/was (I hate time travel) a crystal on Reach which was warping time so that Master Chief would be in the right place at the right time. This is the artifact that the Covies were after and why they didn't completely glass Reach. The crystal affects gravity and also affects slipspace travel causing slipspace to expand and be unpredictable.
It also gives off a huge amount of radiation when it is active and therefore is destroyed by the only surviving ODST from Halo. There are shards of it left on the ship but not enough to account for the mass of the original crystal. We later find that parts of it slipped into slipspace as a shard is found by the Covies near Tau Ceti.
There is a damn good possibility of more than one crystal as I believe the time is still missed up after it is destroyed to get them to the Unyielding Hierophant (a massive covie spacestation) I'll have to check the books when I get home.
The artifacts are Forerunner in theory and I believe that all of the events were laid out by the Forerunner with the Crystals left behind to ensure everyone's fate remains the same, whatever fate that may be. That's why I think in the future Master Chief with advanced armour will be teleported back 100,000 years or so to Halo 04 and activate it thus explaining GS's comment of "You have done this before"
This also explains the Cortana letters which take place in our time as well as this ARG regardless of who it is.

bungie also released an action game a few years back called ONI.
link
according to that link, Oni can meant "ghosts" or "demons" in Japanese in the context of that game by bungie.
here's the official game site:

That's herring, almost certainly.
Oni (note note O.N.I.) was a pseudo-anime-style fighting game with absolutely no link to any other Bungie game.
Well worth ignoring and focusing on the clear and obvious answer.

It's a trivial correction, but Oni did have a rampant AI in it. Bungie games may not all take place in the same universe, but they do all have connections, if only slight. Even Myth can apparently be connected somehow.

The only link with Myth is that one of the Cortana mails (which tied Marathon the Halo) was found on the Myth v1.3 disc.

I don't recall Oni having a rampant AI -- Shinatama certainly wasn't rampant, but that's beside the point. The word "Oni" never appeared in the game universe of Oni. A character in Oni story wouldn't recognize the word as being significant. It was more of an adjective to describe the main character and her situation. Given that the word "ONI" does appear in the Halo universe, the mention of the word by an entity immersed in some universe implies that this universe is more likely the Halo one (or something similiar).
Now the fact that the name of a past game appears in the Halo universe is either coincidence or Bungie recycling/paying homage to previous games (much like the many cute similarities between Halo and Marathon, right down to the SPNKr).
