 		Shamu X *SPOILERS AHOY*
A Theory
The theory of two guys that spent 8 hours of their lives that they will never get back brainstorming about Cloverfield... We are extremely sorry for the length, but we are fairly confident this story is near bullet proof. If in fact however this theory is 100% not right in any way, I am going to make this as a monster film itself. Enjoy, and if it is wrong. Maybe it can at least point us all in a reasonable direction.


Random facts:
-Tagruato is an oil company that prides itself in drilling the deepest possible for extraction.
-Whales have been known to communicate by sound
-T.I.D.O posted claims that the drilling from Tagruato confused/frightened the whales into straying from their normal migration paths
-Sperm Whales have
-Slusho is a smaller sister company of Tagruato who's special ingredient is "seabed nectar"
-Tagruato was caught illegally dumping thousands of gallons of "industrial" waste into the Tokyo Bay less than a mile from the coast of Kujkurt Beach
-Pictures randomly posted on 1-18-08.com depict a sperm whale with what looks like a bite taken out of it.
-Cloverfield = Kinshin in Japanese
-Tagruato posted a news article about the launching a new satellite into space.
-After the credits of the film there's a sound clip that sounds like, " Help Us". Played backwards it clearly says, " It's still alive" in what sounds like Rob's voice



The Theory: Shamu X © 2008

Tagruato was drilling deep in the pacific which produced sounds that resulted in disturbing the sperm whales causing them to stray from their traditional migration paths. The oil company was caught dumping the industrial waste in '86. It is plausible that the waste mutated the sperm whales or perhaps one individual whale for some reason or another. Sperm whales are the largest living carnivores on earth, largest toothed mammals, and with the ability to hold their breath for up to 2 hours giving them the title of being the deepest diving mammals with the loudest growl of any on earth. Now take this and exacerbate these traits.

Now the whales that were not mutated, at least not physically were disturbed by the sounds these drills were making. As a result the whales migrated. In search of it's food the monster (mutated whale) goes in the hunt for it's food. Resulting in it making it to the Atlantic (sperm whales are known to be in all areas on the globe). It finally decides to stop, or is stopped in the mid atlantic. It attacks the Chuai Oil Station Rig...destroying it.

Now back to a living creature's most basic need.... food. Some of you are probably wondering why in the hell would a whale eat another whale. Well the Sperm whale being the largest carnivore on the planet is said to eat almost a ton of food a day. Also they will eat anything from giant quid to sharks. On top of this they are very aggressive animals and are known to fight each other very similar to the way bulls or goats would do. It is not uncommon to find scars and cuts on the heads of these whales. (perhaps the photo of the whale from a much more aggressive foe?)

In the meantime there are small allegiances between the governments of varying nations and the Tagrauto oil company. This would be quite similar to the situation in America today where our Government is directed by oil, and this pushes our economy. In english : The oil companies blackmail the governments.

So back to the story. After the monster attacks the Chuai Oil Rig. This finally concludes the Tagrauto company's fear. They have created this thing, and they want to destroy it before anyone realizes it. This would be devastating to the oil company's reputation. To help the company save face, they called on a contry that was in this petroleum partnership, wanting the use of the government's military. They wanted to the military to destroy this Monster (Cloverfield aka Kinshin). This is the photo you see on the
1-18-08.com site; the photo that is in night-vision with all of the boats and jets in a circle firing on a mass in the middle of the ocean. Now the oil company believes they have destroyed this thing. In order to hide their tracks they decide to hide the carcass of the Monster. The North Pole is fairly close and a good place; they'll freeze the thing and by the time anyone is there, it will be frozen and under snow. So the Targrauto company used one of their oil drugs to tow the monster. This would explain why there is a creature being pulled in tow behind the Oil Tanker in the Manga.
While the monster was in tow it either awoke, came back to life, or whatever else you want to call it. After this happened it decided the best place for it to be was in more shallow water where it could potentially get the chains.
Now to elaborate a bit on walking. Obviously this thing can walk, and can breathe under and out of water. But because this thing has mutated from a whale, it would still be accustomed to being a whale. Therefore, it will not know really that it can experience a world outside of the water, it surfaces for air and that's it. As far as the legs go, yeah it might have been walking in the water on the ocean floor, and tried to get to where it could touch the floor and stand.
Heading north, when this happened they were at the same latitude as New York. As the monster headed for more shallow water, it happened up on New York. Once it was in Shallow water near the statue of liberty, it destroyed the oil tanker... capsizing it. After this it realized what kind of environment it was in, an unfamiliar, big, threatening environment.

In the most recent photos on the 1-18-08.com site there is a fisherman in a pool of blood in the ocean. Then there is an image with a whale and other fleshy masses washed upon a beach. It is apparent that the thing in the back of this photo is a sperm whale, and I believe the smaller black mass in the lower left corner would be a killer whale, (which is the natural enemy of the sperm whale). If you look closely you can see that part of it looks like a beak with teeth in it, much like on a dolphin or killer whale.

Here are another few ideas that my friends and I have been tossing around as possibilities.


- That the CEO (who travelled to New York recently) knew about this monster, either intentionally created it or by accident, but he knew. There are various news clips about the attack on the Chuai Oil Rig. Each news cast featuring a different language and different footage. The Mexican footage shows an asian man flying in a helicopter next to the Oil Rig while it is collapsing. This asian man looks amazingly calm to be whitnessing something such as this.
- In Jamie's videos to Teddy, Jamie is sent "evidence" after Teddy is captured by Targruato. This evidence is the secret mystery ingredient to the Slusho Energy drink. Slusho is a underlying comany of Targruato.
-This secret ingredient needs to be "Iced ASAP" and is refered to as Sea Nectar. Jamie takes some of this Sea Nectar and goes apeshit.
-This is believed to be the ingredient to make Slusho so addictive, hence the slogan of "You can't drink just one".
-To build upon this, it is known that the reason sperm whales got their name was due to the white substance found inside of their heads. This substance was initially believed to be sperm. It is actually called spermaceti and is a milky white waxy substance. The function of such substances it to help with buoyancy . This substance (in reality) is used in such products as cosemetics, candles, rubber, almost anything involving blubber or a waxy substance. *could this be the Sea Nectar?*
- Before the Targuato website went down there was an article describing the history of the company. They said in 1989 someone else bought the company and named it after it's original owner. As a new company they started dealing with products aside from oil...cosmetics, candles, or anything else that might need a rubbery, blubbery, waxy substance.
- In response to the monster and the impending threat of it as a liability to the company. The CEO is working on destroying all evidence of anything ever happening. Hence the reason for the company's website, and why the tidowave website is locked. This would also explain the reason for the satellite falling in the back ground at Coney Island. Maybe they were destroying all evidence?
-These whales' skin is very rubbery everywhere.... except their backs. Their backs are comprised of a tougher scalier substance which tends to house parasites and other critters. So maybe as the creature mutated so did these scales and parasites....thus the spider parasites from the movie.
-Not to mention that on the Targuato company website there was a picture of a whale breaching the surface of the water in the image on the left hand side. It was also a sperm whale. This could be coincidence, but in this story, can't rule anything out.

My friends and I believe that is it. Again I apologize greatly for this length

My friends and I attended a midnight showing on Thursday night for the movie. After the movie let out waiting at the exit of each screening room there were people handing out disposable Kodak cameras. We were wondering if this is just some coincidental promotion. Or if it was something Paramount sponsored to either promote individual event media documentation. Or I noticed that the cameras only came with 27 pictures. Since no one uses these anymore We aren't all that familiar with them, and we remembered when we did use them that they seemed to have 30 pictures, or at least a pretty well rounded number. Not something random like 27. I doubt it but maybe Abrams is crazy and there is something to do with these cameras. Also did anyone else receive the cameras exiting their theater, or was it just the theater we went to?

 		I was at the Australian premiere on the 16th of jan (3 days ago almost to the minute)

Someone had a golden ticket under their seat and they won a digital video camera...the spokeswoman on the microphone also mentioned that there was some preloaded footage in it....

so I wouldn't be surprised if you do have some photos already in your camera!!! So get em developed quick smart!!!

The Australian premiere was similar to all the others. We were all warned about our mobile phones...they had to be switched off...bags were checked...all cameras were taken and you were given a receipt so you could claim it back at the end...

we had a introduction from jj abrams on screen...then the star trek trailer...then the movie...

oh and we all got a free cloverfield tshirt!

 		Just something to note,

Im positive that i have read or seen an article in which JJ Abrams or another person directly related to the production of Cloverfield, that the monster has been here for thousands of years. Also, im pretty sure that it was stated that the monster is "young" and "confused", and that when it scratched its back on a building that it was some sort of birth ritual.

Of course i could be completely wrong but i do beleive i have seen this information somewhere.

interesting you said their were 27 pictures on the camera and when you add 1-18-08 it adds up to 27 thats a odd coincidence

Some very interesting information can be found if you take the time to search for it, and theres actually a lot of stuff out there that can disprove many theories created by people who have just seen the movie.

Also id like to add that one of my other Alias' is Rabbit (Or to be more specific Rabbit Volta). Just found that interesting haha.

 		The 27 pictures thing
I've been reading these forums a while now, and had to register to post this.

Most disposable cameras have either 24 or 27 pictures on them at purchase. They use regular film, and most of the time if you buy a roll of Kodak or Fuji film, it has that number of exposures.

It might be a coincidence that the numbers add up to 27. Granted, you really can't assume coincidence with JJ Abrams, it's just my observation. I personally don't read too much into it.
