SPEC: The view from outside...

With so much going on in the "inner circle" of game, I've been hanging around the periphery and taking it all in. I have a couple ideas I'd like to throw out there...

With the "magic hand" appearing on the Emporium of the Wierd bumper stickers, could Wes be the connection we need to reach Digitalis instead of Ash Grove Park? It would seem that Digitalis and Wes would at least know of each other/hang around in the same circles. Might the encryptions at the bottom of the sticker be Wes' way of communicating with Digitalis on the DL?

Could Dale have designed the EmptyThreats site in an attempt to pay off some of his debt? In other words, could the owners of EmptyThreats and the "thugs" sqeezing Dale for money be one and the same?

I'm certain I'll dredge up more as time goes on...

I think the concensus is that the loan sharks came from EmptyThreats. If they would only start answering their email maybe we could get more information from them (and we don't scare them into thinking we are the feds).

You're spec on asking Wes about Digitalis is AWESOME!! That's what is so great about this game - the more ideas, the better. The bumperstickers as communicating with Digitalis - what a great idea (and we thought it was for Dale). I vote for ES's idea.

I wish I could be creative enough to come up with a good way to start an email conversation with Wes that could lead to him changing the bumpersticker to communicate with Digitalis (and confirm your theory). Anyone?

While I'm at it...I just went to the klepsydra site for the first time and noticed that there is a piece of artwork called "The Bare Tree" by a current patient. Considering Dales penchant for communicating via "leafy greens" (i.e. the sliding puzzle), could this be from him? Anyone want to find out?

Sorry if this is troutable material, it's hard to keep up these days will all that's floating in the ether.

Digitalis is a purple flower

Jaxbax said (on Collective Detective):

In any case a digitalis in the aquatic world is a jelly fish and on land is a purple
flower.

Excuse me if this is trout, but....

Now that someone has mentioned it, Digitalis *is* a purple flower. It's purple foxglove. Purple foxglove is the source of the heart medicine "digitalis." It also has a hugely important place in Irish and Scottish fairy lore. Modern folkloristshave variously theorized that fairies in Gaelic legend are like demons elsewhere -- stealing children and brides away to fairy land -- or that the fairy myth is amechanism for rationalizing infant exposure and the social control of women. Fromthe descriptions, changelings seem to be babies suffering from a variety of birth
defecs from hydrocephaly to ancephaly to Down's syndrome to heart defects to failure to thrive problems. The "cures" are mostly cruel. One cure is that you can "cure" your changeling and get your "real" baby back by leaving it below the high tide line at the ocean. Another is to put the baby on a metal shovel and put it in the fire.
Foxglove on the other hand was a very humane cure. The mother was instructed to make a tissane by boiling foxgove in water and then wash the baby in it. If the baby had a heart problem, like a weak heart, foxglove could help it. Foxglove was "discovered" by doctors after a Scottish doctor had a patient with a heart problem who went to a tinker for an herbal cure and got better -- the herbal cure was foxglove.

For more on this see Peter Narvaez's "The Good People" in addition to the bookon the Pine Barrens Book Club reading list - At the Bottom of the Garden by Diane Purkiss

With a name like Digitalis, I think that our fortune teller has to be benign.
The wish may have gone terrible awry, but overall this might be a clue that the fortune teller is not ordinarily cruel or malevolent. Maybe Digitalis would be willing tohelp us fix this if we can find a way to approach him.

BTW, the name is a terrible pun -- Digitalis fixes broken hearts. Maybe since Dale wasn't supposed to remember his wish, we can talk Digitalis into giving Dale a second wish to mend his broken heart.

Maybe this a connection to the Heart Flash on Greatwater.

I really like this line of thinking.

Digitalis and GWG Heart page-possible connection

Check out this site about Digitalis as an inotropic drug for Congestive Heart Failure.

http://www.childrenheartinstitute.org/medicate/inotropc.htm

I think this might connect the two. But now what about Digitalis, the physic at Ash Grove Park?
